Pietra miliare, inarrivabile genio del progressive rock, le sue composizioni hanno creato le basi della leggenda del prog , i Genesis hanno attinto a piene mani dai lavori di questo autentico fuoriclasse. Semplicemente unico.
apart from the drums and the intro and the fourth movement's bassline (which were played by no other than Mike Rutherford), Anthony played all instruments here.. such an amazing composer and austounding player.. he is prolific in almost everything musically, my favourite musician ever
In this song, it's like to be trapped (in a very confortable way) between Tresspass, Nursery Crime and A Trick of the Tail......really, is the hidden master of early Genesis years!!

I don't think many people can hear the movements and compositions. I feel a bit like rain man in listening to Ants music as I want to shout out how amazing it is but nobody can comprehend. Perhaps the birds will keep singing along and I will just keep smiling at this treasure I have found.
Seems at least 15 people, including me, are smiling at the same treasure :-) It probably does take some sort of classical schooling to identify movements and composition; however, I don't think it takes more than an open ear and ditto heart to appreciate the beauty and dynamics of his talent. I've listened to prog all my life, because I like the intelligens and purposefulness of the compositions. On the other hand, I am also able to appreciate music that is simple in composition and instrumentation, but speaking to my heart. So I guess other people, without classical schooling, could feel the same about this.
@@oriomenoni7651not necessarily. I cant read music or play an instrument- but I remain in awe of the gifts of musicians and musicianship - with that said - regardless of enterprise or pursuit - we all know that there are those trained skills that can only be recognized and appreciated by those trained in similar pursuits.
I listened this in 1980 in my rented flat during the porteño's winter, while filled my pipe with a especial Anphora´s tobacco with a rum essence. The fact was I was just 17 then. Hahahahaha
Well, I don't know that label but must tell you that I gave up smoking a long time ago, as cigarettes as well. It made me really bad and could feel it in my throat and body. I used to smoke Amphora then, but my favourite was the Dutch Troost.
Mieux vaut tard que jamais !...je découvre Antony Phillips, membre fondateur de Genesis, et me régale...comme des perles cachées de genesis! il fait bien partie du groupe pour moi, de son esprit premier! super!
GentleCamel I agree, anyone who is an Anthony Philips fan needs to have this in their music collection. I also have the vinyl and also the CD. Truly great music. I can't help but wonder what direction Genesis would have gone if Ant had remained in the band but, in a way, with all of his solo work, I can't imagine not having all the music he has given to us in leaving. He is truly a one-of-a-kind musician. Every album he does is an adventure. Keep on enjoying his music, friend. I will do the same.
***** The truth is that i am a fan of steve hackett as well and i think they could have done great things in génesis... Or maybe not. The thing is that Ant. Released really good albums as a solo artist.
GentleCamel Sometimes I wonder what kind of music Steve Hackett and Anthony Philips might have made if they worked together. Like you, I also like Hackett's solo work.
+abyios Exactly, if they worked together in Genesis. I truly think Philips would've been happy playing second fiddle to Hackett while hiding in one corner (just like Robert Fripp does), adding a classic texture to Genesis' music as the band plays along.
SamuraiSamara 69 I read that Ant quitted Genesis due to his stage fright. It might be true because I didn´t watch any live performances of A. Phillips. Fripp - Hacket - Phillips... Imagine what those 3 seated guitarrist would make!
Anthony Phillips é um mestre talentoso, sendo muito brilhante nos primeiros trabalhos do Genesis, acho que o Steve Hackett herdou suas influências, para dar continuação da banda, ele é o princípio de tudo, carreira solo espetacular !
This modifies and enhances my perspective on all of Ant's work w/ Genesis, but especially on his fundamental contribution to the album that launched their career and put them on the path of their inventive/experimental style, *Trespass.*
I'm actually quite angry at myself for thinking that he was just a footnote in Genesis' history and that that meant that he wasn't good. I'm not very familiar with Trespass. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is amazing.
I guess you need a spot of talent for it, but mostly it's a question of schooling. A bit like learning a different language, or a new structural skill. I took music lessons from I was 7, including classes in music theory, and I've listened a lot to classical music as well as jazz, even if prog is my main interest. This means that I am able to differentiate the instruments and elements of the music. But appreciating what the music DOES to you - the thoughts and feelings it conjures in your mind - is open for all. You can go to classes to learn music theory, and it's very interesting and opens up your world, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll enjoy it more :-)
Other than Peter Gabriel's work, as he really carried the creative torch post-1975, this is my favourite solo album by former members of Genesis. The other members had occasionally good solo content but it was inconsistent, or like Phil Collins played simple pop tunes that didn't really satisfy me.
The ending of the suite reminds me of "Close to the edge" , the melody is very similar (also the effect and the whole feeling to it)...wondering if he took inspiration from it
Ant was consider by his bandmates as the soul of Genesis. It certainly shows in some of his music, like this amazing suite.

Can you imagine the stuff he and Banks couldve created over these past 50 yrs had they done so!

Now not so hidden after books about Genesis's history stated his big input in the music & lyrics of the band's early recordings.
You’re right. These songs are fantastic caretakers of the early Genesis sound, moods and sensibilities.
Definitely the same vibe/aura/mystique/artistry/ and most importantly the love of early Genesis in storytelling via music
Love the music of Anthony Phillips!

This must be the most presumptuous comment I ever read on a piece of music.

Completely in love with this!💐💜💐
*MASTERPIECE*
How could five people possibly dislike this?
They prefer Justin Bieber...
That’s why youtube had to remove the dislike function

david garione OK, so we know you're still listening to this, but what are you smoking now? Have you tried Dunhill Mixture 965?
Well, I don't know that label but must tell you that I gave up smoking a long time ago, as cigarettes as well. It made me really bad and could feel it in my throat and body.

O Anthony Phillips é tudo de bom!! baita músico, ultra-sensível!!!!

Beyond brilliant!💜💜💜💜💜
Ant & Steve are the only who's their solo stuff sound like early genesis
The others don 't even come close
I love this amazing music ....
IMHO one of the best piece ever written by Ant.
Great to find it on youtube. Thanks for sharing.
I have it on vinyl... It´s a really piece of art that I recommend to check it out!

Anthony Phillips Genesis Trespass brilhante carreira solo técnica e sensibilidade um ótimo músico.
The hidden Master.
OBRA MAESTRA HECHA EN LOS MAJESTUOSOS CIELOS DE LA IMAGINACIÓN DE ANT.
One of his better pieces in my opinion..
Forgotten masterpiece! Mike Rutherford plays on this BTW!
Some of my favorite AP "Songs" - the right music for "Wetterpilze". Very nice!
Masterpiece!
Graciasss!!!!!!, hermosoo, un genio, gracias por el canal y compartir tanto Genesis
De los guitarristas de la época..,un maestro
Mesmerizing.

That was their second album
@@swinetrek If I remember well, the first album wasn't so 'inventive/experimental', no ??
Definitely early Genesis
Introdução de tirar o fôlego!
I'm actually quite angry at myself for thinking that he was just a footnote in Genesis' history and that that meant that he wasn't good. I'm not very familiar with Trespass. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is amazing.
You must listen Dusk, from Trespass

Very unfortunately, You Tube won’t let me subscribe to your channel.
Is this the apotheosis of rock music?
9:30
The most beautiful 2 minutes of music ever
This is from 1980?
It sounds like something from the 70's
Its from the 70’s
And it still kicks ass 50 yrs later!
Musical juwelry ... but only if YOU know what that sounds like.
Salmon's last sleepwalk should be played @ my funeral..yes M Rutherford on bass gtr.
