Dose makes the poison. We are likely to overconsume healthier alternatives because we are likely to overestimate the benefits. We overestimate the benefits because "effort justification bias" is our tendency to overestimate value and validity of information we put in effort to acquire. More elusive the information more valuable it is perceived to be. Health hacks are elusive by definition. When modestly eating something unhealthy, guilt takes care of portion control.
