    Thanks for watching. Just wanted to clarify I said "he can live a normal life' I meant he can live the life 'he' wants not having to do what is expected of him according to society!

    We just changed med back a week before COVID started as the new one disaster so no idea for a while if the med change helpful. We kept him remote through the first immunization and sent him to summer school 14 months later for first in person experience again. He transitions badly and was scared of COVID besides. We may have told him he would be fine but the world was acting in his view like it would not be fine. Anyway after so many school calls a year with no call from vice principal was welcome. Services like speech was great since we had had the therapist before. SW not great. Staffing issues and just not good online. His main teacher great and it was only her first year.

      We did a lot of online psych and speech app's which worked well for us not having to travel (we are so lazy at times lol). School was so good for us to have a break and now we are at a new school and it's the world of difference!

      @@FrugalFunMum Speech was easy to do online. He was a therapist he had before in elementary and middle. Great continuity. He actually did some google sheets, free rice app, was also a teacher who joined LA once a week online so did exercises there as well with the entire group. My son started resisting the speech homework first year had him back in elementary. Suggested some card games and for a few months anyways we did they regular and great for bonding. I found the reading and answering questions on the book also great for bonding as we would take turns he would get excited near the page in the chapter the days question was found on and pay attention for it. He was a math kid who like books to look through but not do questions for. We got 2 solid hours of work in those months since the shut down and free for most the day. I got the perk of the home school. Tied to it 7 hours in fall was an adjustment. We got there. Our public school had no one back for 10 months after COVID. Total remote until January. Then 2x a week for those that wanted once the teachers got vaccinated. First shot in history giving a shot to a 23 year old extended coverage to 14 year olds in the same space. LOL then all the 5 year olds were going to die if they didn’t get the shot. The person near a case went back to remote 14 days. The person with COVID a few days before that could return go figure? Goofy but I just get the shots they tell me to get when they tell me to get them. It was really hard to explain the world to kids who are not typical when the world stopped making sense. The world has gone goofy was my go to phrase. Just follow the rules best you can. But it sure was a breath of fresh air to leave the world a bit. It put off dealing with a few things. It’s like he went from 12-16. He is a year older than most in his class. So I almost always felt he was a year younger. But spring he was one of the few maybe only one to get wisdom teeth out, he is old to drive but hasn’t been through the class yet. He suddenly feels older than his grade peers. It’s a rough transition.

    Don't know how I missed this video...but somehow I did! So many points I can relate to mentioned here. It's definitely a very ebb and flow kinda life for me and I just go with it as much as I can - I don't do all the 'shoulds' with my girls or life would just be much more difficult. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences at home with Autism :) I look forward to more.

    My son and I are both diagnosed, my favourite part of your video was when you described the siblings ESP.

      Thanks I didn’t want to offend anyone saying they act like twins but usually one thing doesn’t happen without the other!

    You're a great advocate! My son had one foot in the old system one in the ndis system. Level 1 is so hard to get funding for now past about 8yrs of age. You have done great. I'm looking forward to the food video!

    Do you also get does he sometimes, never, frequently forms that take and hour or 2 to complete. I really hate those. Not concrete.

    • @FrugalFunMum
      @FrugalFunMum  2 года назад +1

      Oh yes those forms frustrate me ' can you plan, prep, shop and cook a 3 course meal' - um no he's 7 - this isn't masterchef ... OR 'can you organise a day trip and plan events, and catch public transport independently to get you there' - No again he's 7 as if I'm going to let him catch a bus by himself!!!!! Seriously ... LOL

    Being the mum of a special needs child, you tend to burn the candle at both ends. My youngest has Jackson-Weiss syndrome. OMG. It was challenging. Teachers wanted her to do homework, I wanted her to concentrate on how to walk or hold a fork. Go figure?

      Ha ha yes !! My son had to go to Spanish for 3 years the kid can’t speak English but let’s send him to learn a new language I wouldn’t care IF he learnt it and then could speak Spanish over English but no he pretty much had a sleep in class every week sigh ...
