    Video suggestions: 1.) Pedal Steel mixing. 2.) How to program and mix country drums with a drum library. 3.) Acoustic guitar layering ie Standard Acoustic, Nashville tuning, that metal guitar that looks like an acoustic (dont know what its called) proper panning and placement.

    Love Noah Kahan! My wife and I drove up to Charleston to see him live several weeks ago. Also, cool idea recreating the production! Much more interesting than just listening to the final while adding your thoughts.

    Simplicity is key! In the future could we get some more detailed guitar tutorials? Like how to play some common guitar parts and techniques used to play them?

    So very, very happy you are back! Cristmas just got a bit sweeter. Great video! Less is more; especially for a song like that. I always fret when I just track one acoustic guitar as an instrument for a part of a song. I always feel like I should have one panned L and R, playing the same part, albeit different performances. Here in this song, I think it would take away from the emotion and (somewhat) the intimacy of the song if you started with two panned opposite. For whatever reason, whenever I attempt just one acoustic...this voice says, "try it with two". But I just wrote a song that is pretty mellow I am going to try it on that. Oh and the sound of the acoustic is really nice. Granted, that song is so catchy, so well written and the vocals so good (Noah & Forest) that you could play a rubber band wrapped around a shoebox and the vocal would carry it to a hit. Thanks again for these vids, Forest! Extremely helpful! Do you EQ and/or use any compression on your acoustic guitar when tracking it?

    • @forestwhitehead
      @forestwhitehead  8 месяцев назад

      I do have some secret sauce on all my audio going into the DAW. Just squeezing with a touch of compression and a bit of high eq. Thank you for watching!

    This song is a perfect example of.. if the song is just good.. it doesnt matter how complex or simple you go.. its just a good song. this song is so catchy and high energy I think a lot of people would have over produced this song originally.

    Great work as always. I love the double vocal work. I have been in a habit of using harmonies for emphasis. I need to use doubling again. The effect is subtle and powerful.
    I would have been tempted to add in a banjo, but the resonator sounds great.

    • @forestwhitehead
      @forestwhitehead  8 месяцев назад

      If I had a banjo in my studio I would've put it on there, settled for the reso. The doubled vocals is such a classic trick you can use almost always.

    Thank you for all these videos they are really cool. Honestly I have a problem with my guitars sounding a bit boomy and to much in your face when I'm strumming. I find it hard to make the sit in the mix and not overtake the mix. The guitar sound at 4:49 is what I'm aiming for. But I feel I can hear way too much pick and room noise. Maybe it's because I'm using a RODE NT1A ? Maybe it picks to much up

  • @joshpierce232
    @joshpierce232 7 месяцев назад

    My problem is i'm totally different. I love the classic Country sound. I grew up with the greats like Hank Sr. etc. I know that's a whole different style of producing/mixing. I have a friend that's an artist in Nashville and I need to get out there and see him. He's been bugging me for quite a while but he's on the road more than not. If i get out there I may have to hit you up. I have some stuff written I'd love to get a good recording on.

    Hey man, question, I'm a songwriter and singer and my songs are getting accepted and sent to the right people, but things don't seem to quite work out most of the time and I don't end up getting the cut. I know that my songs sound professional, but I don't know if they sound like the artist I am pitching it to enough. So my question is: should your songs sound exactly like the artist or just in the general style of that artist?

    • @forestwhitehead
      @forestwhitehead  8 месяцев назад

      Hey man, this is a very common thing. Tap into your own style as a writer and producer as opposed to trying to sound like something popular. You will ultimately be happier with what you create. Promise.
