    Nashville is tough. I applaud you for making it in Music City.
    I love Nashville, and look forward to every trip and visit. However, my wife and I are comfortable in GA. The only downside is that once I produce and develop an artist they eventually relocate to Nashvegas. I am proud of them though, and I support them 100%.

    Wow, Forest. You've already dropped two new videos after your personal video. This is absolutely great! Your story of your first success kinda reaffirms for me that you should start every song project in your DAW as a (potentially) official record / release and not as a demo. (Make everything the best it can be, right from the start.) Do you think this mindset helps people to make better productions? It for sure avoids "demoitis" (not sure how to spell that, lol.) Thanks again for all the effort and all the knowledge you share. Take care!

      The goal is to get that demo sounding like a master for sure. There is sometimes magic in the day of writing something that cant be recreated so capturing a great vocal that first day can be important. Take it as far as you can!

    So going into 2024 I can’t wait to do the course

      Maybe it's cuz of me not comprehending very well but was intrigued about that process or maybe transition that you alluded to, with recording demos and those demos turning into masters. Does that imply that any demo technically doesn't fall into that "master" category yet?

    Hey Forest,
    I'm an Artist/Musician/Writer/Tech here in town. First off, love your videos! Thank you for all the work you put into them. They've helped me a bunch already! I saw your Online Course that your offering for the song production. I was curious if you go into more detail about the Publishing/Pub Deal/Royalties part of Songwriting in the Online Course? 🤔 That's part of the business I don't fully grasp and although I have friends that are on the Songwriting side of things, most of my time in town has been spent on the Live/Touring side of things. I've been debating on getting your "Track In A Day" course and if it has info on the Publishing/Royalties side of things, that would be a bonus! Thanks again, man! - Nick

    Great video! I was wondering if you could clarify something about Master Rights: were you saying if a song you produced independently happened to take off that the Master Rights automatically become yours? And if so is that something a Record Label will try to take away from you?

    • @forestwhitehead
      @forestwhitehead  7 месяцев назад

      Upon proper registering your song, yes, you produce a track, post it on tik tok, it takes off and then you fully own the master version that is on Spotify. A record label will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS come after as much of the Master Recording Rights as possible.

    Id love to be a songwriter/producer for a career. I play guitar decent enough to wtire my songs. And ive invested in my little set up and im always trying to get better at production and recording/mixing. Unfortunately i dont have a good enough singing voice to demo my songs myself, wich makes it extremely difficult to show my songs and get them out there. I can tell people honsestly really like my songs, but it takes a keen ear to be able to "hear past" my horrible vocals. To listen to what a song COULD sound like, rather than what im able to make it sound like singing it myself. I can hear all the core complicared vocal melodies in my head, and the listener needs that too or it the song comes across mediocre. They gotta have a pretty open mind going into it lol. I just have a extremely narrow range i can sing in. Barely even a octave lol. And my actuall tonalities or "sound" of my voice is just not good.
    And i dont have a really talkative charismatic personality either, wich adds another challenge. Im really non egocentric. Definitely not built to be a "star", if you catch my drift. My place would be in creating and as a supporting role. I do love and thrive in collaboration tho. I want everyone involved to bring thier unique talents to the table, and to add thier own bit of flair to whatever project it is.
    Absolutely thrive on collaboration.

    being a great songwriter is not something you can learn to do, like you'd learn how to do your taxes. You can write for 20 years and still suck. It's a big risk to go all in on something like that.

      @@forestwhitehead "Being a great songwriter" and " i learned how to write a song". Are MILES AND MILES apart. If you're saying "Hey, yeah, anybody can write like Bob Dylan if you watch enough tutorials on instagram." then yeah, i'm gonna call bullshit. That's not how it works with art. IT's about personal taste/asthetic. That's wrapped up in who you are. You can't wake up one day, and change who you are to crack the top 40. Come on man. That is just rediculous. You're selling people what will be an empty dream for the large majority of people. What percentage of the 300 million people in the U.S. ever wrtie a number one song? I can assure you it's far less than 1 percent. Hollow and empty are the dreams you sell sir. LOL
