Alan Douglas did justice to Jimi's work. Jimi was a perfectionist. Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning align with Jimi's musical vision. Jimi had left a lot of recordings behind and Alan Douglas chose recordings that had potential to be great albums. I have to ask the naysayers what is wrong with removing tracks and re-recording them? The end result is what matters. Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning are great albums musically and sonically. Thank you, Alan Douglas.

My introduction to Jimi was in 1986 seeing him play 5 seconds of Wild Thing on a Beatles TV documentary called "It Was 20 Years Ago Today". I was immediately taken by Jimi and wanted to find out who he was. The feeling his music gives is still the same to me today. Hope I can get this book.
Thank you Alan Douglas for the releases you have worked on. I Love Kiss The Sky and The Jimi Hendrix Concerts. My favorite still is Nine To The Universe.

Nine to the Universe was a good idea but the tracks were severely edited.....Experience Hendrix has released 4 of the 5 tracks in their original full unedited form ( albeit on different releases with other great tracks ) and they sound fantastic....

I had the the honor and pleasure to work for Alan when he managed the Hendrix estate and did transcription books and musical projects based on Jimi's recordings. I was paid very well and treated with the utmost respect as he thought of me as the best person to chronicle the music on paper, thanks to kudos from Guitar World magazine where I was a music editor or in their words, "guitar music maven. Alan was no vulture.

I worked with Alan Douglas from 89 to 92 on the beautiful people ( Featuring Jimi Hendrix) album if 60's were 90's I was in the band and spoke to him practically every day in those years ..he was either in Paris at Gravity Sarl his record label... New York in a hotel ..London at the Mayfair where he had an office in Charlotte St at Screen Ventures..or at his pad on malibu beach..I would call at 3pm when he was in LA and catch him doing yoga on the beach at 7am US time. He introduced me to Mitch Mitchell...Bruce Garry from the Knack and eventually to Jimi Hendrix Jnr who who ended up becoming a friend and was in our video for the single of the same name as the album.....He gave me my first break in this world of music he was my Mentor....and a very creative talented man. I went to see Leon Hendrix gig at the half moon in putney and was lucky enough to chat with Leon and it was he who told me of Alans passing.....i am not ashamed to say i cried right there on the half moon front of stage ......Du Kane

To me, Alan Douglas was a cool cat. I have copies of "Crash Landing", "Midnight Lightning", "Nine To the Universe" and "Voodoo Soup". I like ALL of them. They sound like finished albums. I like the "Experience Hendrix" stuff as well-such as "Valleys of Neptune", "People-Hell and Angels" and "Both Sides of the Sky". But the stuff issued by the Hendrix family sounds a little stripped down-like demos-at times. Their approach was to rely mainly on the original recordings, and use Pro Tools to cut and paste things until they had a completed work. Alan didn't have access to such technology, so he had to hire musicians to re-record certain things that were poorly done. That's the story folks. It's really that simple. Alan did good things. Janie did good things too.

Alan gets a lot of grief because he somewhat took over the Hendrix legacy after Jimi's death, mostly due to his position in Jimi's cabal and life at the time of his death. I believe Jimi would have actually chosen him instead of Mike Jeffries and eventually Jaime Hendrix and the "family". Microsoft founder Paul Allen was the force behind taking the control of Jimi's music assets and control away from Alan and give it to his blood family . What a strange and difficult action to judge. He didn't know his family hardly at all and was planning on using Alan to produce some of his future work. I'm split on my opinion all that stuff.
I did work with Alan on the Are You Experienced video and found him to be an interesting man who followed his heart and insticts to make critical decisions. (he sat down and smoked a joint before he did a first review of the final video product). He's a cool cat.

Charles Cross wrote a Biography on Jimi Hendrix Titled "Room Full of Mirrors" it is the most in Depth Research done on Hendrix from Childhood up to his Death According to Friends; Family , Musicians, Producers & Recording Engineers. Jimi Hendrix considered Bob Dylan a Master Lyricist and studied his Compositions, Jimis Original work decimates Blues Clone Derivative jammers being heralded as being Better than Hendrix or even in his League. Plus! Jimi Hendrix loved Jazz; Classical, Gospel, Folk, Country, Rock, Soul, R&B, Funk, Blues and African & Native American Rhythms. Jimi Hendrix compiled an Extensive list of Soul and R&B Acts he played Backup for before going Solo, This set him apart from Top Guitarists because one has to know Rhythm; Jazz Chords, Different Time Signatures and Inverted Chords to Function in these Genres that Used Guitar Primarily as a Rhythm Instrument. Jimi also Jammed with Jazz Musicians Miles Davis; John Mclaughlin, Larry Young, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Wayne Shorter, Les Paul, Kenny Burrell, Stanley Clarke, Mitch Mitchell, Tony Williams, Larry Coryell, Marvin Gaye & Stevie Wonder who learned from Motown's in House Jazz Band aka "The Funk Brothers." Jimi Hendrix heard Chicago play "Introduction" written by their Guitarist Terry Kath and became an Immediate Fan & Friend, He told his Band & Musicians "I just heard this Band called Chicago and their Guitar Player is as good as Me." Terry like Jimi didn't just Riff around they wrote Songs and took it places and even into complete Feedback then back to the Beginning, That's the mark of a Genius! Ironically; After meeting Terry, Jimi expressed plans to do a Jazz Lp with lots of Horns & Featured Guests with Miles Collaborating as Bandmate & Producer, and Terry wanted to do a 3 Piece Band Lp after meeting & Jamming with Jimi, Both Decimated Blues Clones being Heralded as equal to Hendrix while ignoring Terry Kaths Prowess as a Songwriter and Guitar Player. Finally; Jimi Hendrix acknowledged his Grandmother was a Full Blood Cherokee, Dad Al was Half and Jimi often wore Beaded Moccosins, Vests and Fringed Leather Shirts in Concerts Honoring his Native American Bloodline, He also Dedicated "I Don't live Today & Freedom" to The American Indian. Universitys regard Miles Davis & Jimi Hendrix as 2 of the most innovative Musicians of the 20th Century. Jim learned every Harmonic on every String on an Acoustic before he plugged in, he then bent the Note with the Whammy Bar.

Alan Douglas- a superb producer. He produced the first two Richie Havens albums, which are jewels. Legal problems, both should be on a single cd for sale. He recorded Richie singing and playing. Later, Alan added the other instruments and choral vocals. I read in a book, Jimi was depressed and spoke with Richie Havens about his situation, such as no money forth coming. Richie must have recommended Alan Douglas. Alan must have started working with Jimi. Jimi’s contract with Michael Jeffry was expiring. Jimi was going to change management and go with Alan Douglas. Michael Jeffry took out a $2 million dollar life insurance policy on Jimi. I believe Michael Jeffry had Jimi murdered and collected the insurance. Alan produced 2 Jimi albums after his death. My favorite is Crash Landing. Alan was criticized for removing some of the original drum and bass parts. His studio musicians did a great job replacing the parts with better recording quality. This interview focused on Jimi’s early compositions. I vastly feel his later works were far superior. Jimi’s playing got better. His composition skills improved. Jimi’s words became more mature, as on the Crash Landing album. Alan Douglas is dead now. But, we can see from his demeanor, he would compliment Jimi’s personality. They would be good working together.

First of all yawl Need to have your shit together and do your home work and /RESEARCH BEFORE YOU START talking about Jimi or whom ever it may be thats being presented as such... JIMI "s mother was NOT ONLY BLACK NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN... she was also American Indian and WHITE. damn sam all you have to do is look @ HER PICTURES and you can see with you own two eyes that she was at least half white!! LOOK at how fair she is in some pictures and at times when the lighting is 'right' on video of jimi on film you can see that he's of a litter hue(Mixed!!)... Lucielle Jeitters was from washington state. think about it for a minute!! any idea how many american indian tribes are there in washington state, Jimi's mother again was at least part indian and more than likely like many many blacks in this country they're tri-racial...black/white/american indian.
Thats NO new news. JIMI 's Great grandmother ON HIS Daddy's side was the Full Blood Cherokee women she was married to a white man who was an Irishmen, I Believe they were married in either 1810 or 1820,something like that... Jimi's grandmother on film was already 100 years old or damn close back in 1969.... LOOK@ Leon,IM mean come on,even though he's jimi's half brother,he's still got the same kinds of features and 'looks'... h';es got naturally str8 hair, from where??? His mothers side of the family..... IM of white and american indian ancestry and the lineage goes back to the 12th century in england/ireland/scotland and wales.... there is sooo much racial education needed in this country its unreal. NOT every thing or every one is as cut and dry as BLACK & WHITE as it seems.. I Love Jimi too much to NOT say something and represent,in the best possible light. Keith.

Keith McCaslyn Jimi was black. his mother and father were black. us black people have all sorts of mixed heritage and ancestry. still doesn't change the fact that we were black. Jimi's grandmother was not full blooded Cheeroke. maybe 25 percent. I spoke to the family historian, who has accurately traced everything. Jimi's grandmother had very dark skin, as did many native Americans. it's very curious that many white people want to dilute Jimi's blackness. very shameful. the man was black. case closed. move on.
