      Do you think David Hume saw himself as a nihilist?

      @@SunAndMoon-zc9vd Hume was called an atheist in his life nihilist as a concept came later. The Great Nihilist name came much later.

      @@lawrence9506 I guess one doesn't need the word "nihilist" and "nihilism" to be a nihilist. When David Hume came to the aware conclusion that "there is no God" I would guess that existencial nihilism wasn't far away. The "If God doesn't exist, then..." may have opened up for thoughts in that direction. Or it may be that pure nihilism is a concept which for us now seems so common, but that before was harder to get in its purest form.

    The only critique would be the outdated claim that Buddhists do not believe in a creative source. It's not that God isn't there, but in Buddhism one could say that "God" isn't the focus.
