Q50S Stillen Catback Exhaust + Kinetix HFC (2015 3.7L)

- I created this video to document my current exhaust setup
before replacing the kinetix HFC's with Fast Intentions Resonated HFC’s.
The Stillen catback on its own sounded really good, aggressive on WOT, but quiet when driving normally.
(honestly sounds the way the car should’ve come stock)
But after spending the money on it, it just wasn’t quite as loud as I was hoping. (and I didn’t want it to be obnoxious) Unless the windows are down or music is turned way down, it’s hard to even tell it’s an aftermarket exhaust.
I decided to replaced the stock cats with Kinetix HFC’s and woah! Definitely increased the overall volume and deepened the tone of the exhaust. Slightly louder than I originally wanted, but I’ve grown to enjoy it.
Unfortunately it did add a slight bit of rasp, more noticeable when it’s colder outside or when the car hasn’t warmed up yet. Annoying enough for me to look into other options… I ended up ordering Fast Intentions Resonated HFC’s. Compared to the 200 cell count on the Kinetix, these are 300 cell count and also have 8” resonators built-in. Both of those factors will hopefully stop or at least reduce the rasp. I will make another video once those are installed for a comparison!

Just wanna say thank you. This is the sound I'm going to go for over the motor dyne. This is significantly more refined . And not as loud and obnoxious, but I will miss the super deep rumble of the motordyne

Speed Culture Studios thanks man. Have watched all of your videos, you sold me on the rear sway bar and it made all the difference! (I have fast intentions resonated HFC coming Wednesday) hopefully will get rid of the rasp at colder temps. Will post a follow up/ comparison video.

Question. Did you ever end up making a video with the Fast Intentions HFC? You said would make another video but I see that you didn't make one. Just really curious if it's an improvement over this sound. This already sounds perfect
I actually did film it and recreated all the shots, but ended up being really surprised that the differences didn’t translate well so I never completed the video.
In my opinion, the fast intentions resonated HFC are a better pick when pairing with a stillen cat back. The kinetix were raspy sounding intermittently depending on outside temperature. The FI RCFC are probably 70-80% of the volume, significantly less raspy, still plenty loud for my tastes, less drone in the car. Downshifts from 4th to 3rd are less violent, but downshifts from 3rd to 2nd still sound great. Overall a great volume level if you want to be heard and get some head turns, but not obnoxiously loud unless you really want it to be.
I’d probably go motordyne + art pipes if I could do it over again.

Richard Cabreezy I did the swap with the Fast Intentions Resonated HFC’s. Definitely helped the rasp. It’s still there a little, but quite a bit better.
Mainly hear it in colder temperatures.
@@ZRPStudios Agh, I have a q50 as my daily driver, so rasp and drone are things I definitely want to avoid. What kind of HP gains with the HFC, maybe that will convince me haha
Richard Cabreezy it definitely is worth it IMO. The Stillen on its own it a little to quiet. Im tuned now by Admin Tuning and the HFC were definitely a factor in getting extra power. Stock cats are very restrictive. I might get resonators welded onto the Y pipe area depending on how it sounds as we get into fall/winter.
@ZRP did you get the Fast Intentions Resonated HFCs or non res? Thinking about the FI HFCs and seems the resonated wound be worth the extra money to mitigate rasp..thanks!

Hey ik you posted this a year ago but I hope you respond. I just bought a stillen cat back for my 2014 q50 and it’s an awd. On there website they specify it won’t fit an awd but it seems that it fits on yours. Just wondering what if any issues you ran into.

Yes! FI RHFC have been installed for about half a year now, i think it’s pretty close to perfect now.
Went from 200 cell count on the kinetix to 300, on the FI, plus the 8” resonators on the cats. It made it about 1/3 quieter, but it’s still plenty loud. Just not as annoying, downshifts from 4th to 3rd aren’t as aggressive, drone is basically gone, just a nice pur now. Rasp was cut significantly. It can still randomly happen at specific RPM’s when shifting if it’s cold outside. But not as bad as the kinetix.
I would NOT recommend test pipes with the Stillen CBE, that would be rasp city.
I’m happy with the sound now. Really nice burbly/deep sound. That being said if I was to start over I’d probably go motordyne.

How are the FI cats? Did they solve or reduce the rasp?
Significantly reduced the rasp! I actually filmed another video identical to this one as a comparison, but while editing I realized you really couldn't notice the difference in tone, it's about a 30% decrease in volume and slightly deeper tone. That being said, I'd probably go with the Speed Culture Studios Catback + resonated Test Pipes if I could do it over again.

How did u get the car play into the radio
There are a number of aftermarket CarPlay modules for the topscreen for 2015+ Q50s.
I have the JoyAuto one, (not working atm) but there’s a few other options too.
ZRP Studios how come it isn’t working? would you say that implementing aftermarket carplay isn’t a good idea?

How are the kinetix cats holding up? My own ones are rattling and thinking of getting these as a replacement
The rattling is likely rasp. Which is why I switched to fast intentions resonated HFC. it’s definitely better. Less rasp but still a little bit.
Does higher cell count on HFCs mean louder sound overall?
It’s the opposite.
The higher the cell count, the more restrictive, which means quieter. Depending on the rest of the exhaust setup and the car, sometimes low cell count HFC, or test pipes can sound raspy. I switched to Fast Intentions Resonated HFC and it did get a little quieter but still much louder than stock cats, and rasp is gone now.
@@ZRPStudios alright thank you. I don’t know if to deal with the rasp because I want it to be the loudest it can be or if to be smart and just get a high cell count. Is there any other way to make the Stillen louder? Sorry for so many questions bro I’m just a teen and new to all this
Installing this bolt-on with no tune, is there expected to be damage done to the engine over time? Or is this, with no tune, as healthy for the car as the stock exhaust?

Stillen with Stock cats will have zero rasp. But I found it was too quiet. Felt like what the car should've sounded like stock but isn't going to turn any heads.
Am thinking about getting these for my g37 , Have you had any cel , or complaints also what about performance gain ,

Check the video description or the end of the video for a full write up. I’m about to replace the kinetix HFC with Fast Intentions Resonated HFC’s to hopefully help with the rasp that’s noticeable at lower temperatures. (In this video you cant hear it much besides some of the downshifts and the higher revs) And there is a little bit of drone, but I don’t mind it. Allows me to hear the car more when listening to music. I’ve had the HFC on since September and randomly this month got a CEL, cleared it and it hasn’t come back since. Probably a fluke. I did notice a subtle increase in power, not huge. But between the K&N drop in filters and the HFC/CBE it definitely breaths better.

Nope, just the normal gaskets.
@@ZRPStudios Ok I have Berk HFC with the stillen exhaust and I noticed the Berks were 2.5", whereas the stillen piping is 2.25". I thought I might need to adapt them to smoothen the transition between the two. Just curious, did you use the stock gaskets, or the ones that came with your aftermarket parts(stillen, Kinetix)?

@@DG-888 I didn't. Instead, I'm going to fabricate my Invidia Gemini CBE to a custom exhaust setup by adding the Borla Pro XS mid muffler and Flowmaster resonators. And still keeping my Berk HFC.

Did either of your HFC's cause a CEL?
Got one once. Then reset it and it didn’t come back. But I then got tuned a few months later.

What type of power you pushing with this setup?
Just got remote tuned by Admintuning with Fast Intentions Resonated HFC, same stillen cbe, and I’m guessing around 325-340whp. No dyno numbers because it was a remote tune.

Sounds exactly like my muffler delete on my 3.7. Thats all u need on this car and test pipes with intakes. Simple.
