Apparently one night, just after the Pistols had signed to A&M records, "Whispering" Bob Harris went to the Speakeasy with a couple of music biz officials and a few long haired muso types, when who should turn up but Johnny Rotten and his entourage which included Sid Vicious and Jah Wobble, who were all slightly inebriated. it is alleged that Harris was approached first by Wobble who was a bit miffed that The Old Grey Whistle Test would not show the Pistols on their show, thus an argument ensued in which Sidney set about members of the Bob Harris crew, which resulted in one of his ((Harris) pals getting a bit roughed up and requiring medical attention. As told in some of the stories on the DVD, performances on the OGWT were sometimes lip-synced, and performed in front of a cameraman only. Its easy to see this was lip synced, and in front of an audience of one or two cameramen.
Yes, yet so many 'Sheeple' can't tell the difference!
the BBC video is in itself a masterpiece which accentuates and (hard to believe) takes this genius performance of a classic song making it even greater! WOW!
思わず手拍子しちゃうね!✨😆💦
Nigel Tufnil on drums??????? When did he switch to gultar? These boys rocked....
This was complletely different from anything at the time.
Wow...Thunders’ guitar tone sure changed by the time he played The Mason Jar Phoenix Arizona late 80’s.
The entire club shuddered at each bone dry note. Insanely huge sound 🌟
[28 June 2020] How brilliant David Johansen was. He really did look like an evil doll...
He still does!
"Mock rock" my arse, Harris you twot I'm glad Sid gave you what for at the Speakeasy all those years ago. Happy times...
Raymondspongey if you have time i would like to hear what happened at the speakeasy. did sid give him some shit i take it?
When a certain Malcolm McClaren the pistols manager, was questioned by the press after said incident, he famously retorted ;"What can I say-boys will be boys..." The incident led to the Pistols being sacked from A&M records after only a week.
@@Blooobirds27 Well Sidney isn't his name, it's John but more importantly, the word you are looking for is twat.. can you please tell all your pals in the good ol'U.S of A that it is in fact t-w-A-t and not spelt with an O.. Much obliged, thanks..
@@ChrisJohnson-ld3wq Such an ignorant and unwarranted
retort about John Simon Ritchie/ Beverly. I am from South Wales UK and not a yank as you quite bombastically resorted to calling me .It's not my fault if you are unable to accept the fact that other people are entitled to A point of view, that fails to collaborate with you Anglo Saxon conqueror/colonised imperial mindset.I am a Celt not a pussy.
Your views on me, or what I say- are about much use as the Popes dick. Fuck your Union jack
@@Blooobirds27 well there you go.. i assumed.. and what has happened, yep, i have made an ass out of u and me.. sorry for calling you a yank, that was uncalled for.. it's still twAt with an A though.. no need to get angry
Bob Harris' legendary 'mock rock' quote, Like he was their baby...
He called it Mock Rock cos Johannsen told him that he had bunny teeth!
@@hector7187 🤣
Rip Sylvain..yiur now in Jetboy heaven..with thunders like you were my baby...like you were....like you..
..
So influential. Incredible.
What?
@@cafinario he’s right
I like the idea that J Thunders "battled addiction". I think addiction battled him - met its match, could barely keep up.
Which one won?
This is why it was great to live in NYC in the Seventies. You had established bands around, rising punk bands and then just all sort of other bands trying to push their own ideas. And a lot of them looked cool. These guys had a great look as well.
if you like this you might like my brothers music. His name is Stu Morris and she has a car is a good song by him
They don't look a million miles away from the bands like motley crew or posion that came around 15 - 20 years later
RIP Sylvain Sylvain.........massively influencial band
Love this...you know what thou. I think David's mike is hot while the rest of the band is playing to a prerecorded track....
Billy Lightning Probably true... David sounds great here- really puts himself into it.
Wow, I went back and re-watched it and I think even David is pre-recorded....oh well, check out the musikladen videos if you haven't seen them.
@@jasperlufkin during the first guitar break around 1:30, you can hear the mic getting knocked around, and then again around 2:00 when Johnny is stomping next to it, but then there is the unexplained sigh at 2:24 among other anomalies. A real riddle. Superb showmanship by David, not hogging the limelight.
@ARYA DHARMA No, its all lip-synced. Read Sylvains' book. He even confirms that that Vox was a crappy guitar, it's not playing those leads with all that sustain, that's an SG special from the record.
@@seancurran6727 Yes, all pre-recorded, but as can be heard by all the clunking.. the mic is very much live. I used to insist on that if I had to do promo performances to playback (usually in Europe) - otherwise you'd feel a total fraud wouldn't you!?
What a great sound they had 👍
Now David Johansson is the only one left. R.I.P. to the rest.
Watching this in 1973 only confirmed to me how awesome they really were. Still listen to their vinyl LP's and wish how I could go back in time to relive it all again!
They were punk rock before it had a name.😊
if you like this you might like my brothers music. His name is Stu Morris and she has a car is a good song by him
最初のコーラスではジョニー・サンダースが背低くて、デヴィッド・ヨハンセンのマイクに届かなかったので
2回目からは、ヨハンセン屈んであげてますね🤣🤣🤣
Saw the Dolls in Allen Park Ice Arena just outside Detroit they kicked ass not many in attendance but what a show!
Formidable tema que cierra el debut de un icono proto-punk.
Greatest most imp band to come out of NY ❤❤. Influenced so many who followed in sound, style, attitude. Led to Punk Rock. Nikki Sixx copped all who Johnny Thunders was - no JT = no Motley Crue. Long live the NEW YORK DOLLS.
Love this song.....1973 omg I was a kid ...
I adore this ...................
David Jo is the nicest man ever.Met him in 87 on Melrose. Was totally willing to sit and chat with me.i had just seen Thunders weeks earlier in Miami. That was all he wanted to talk about. How was Johnny.Great band Great people.Sylvain still has rampage of records going. And looking for Johnny came out last year.Dolls 4ever!

the drummer looks like a young Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap)....1:34
These guys were innovative, bad ass rockers. David, Killer Kane, Sylvain Sylvain, Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan. The Dolls!
Loves this song. This is glam rock at it's best.
This is NOT glam Rock. This is pure punk. Rebellious, raucous punk.
Glam was nothing more than glitter bubble gum.
@@MARCD-tj8bwThis is glam punk. Similar to the glam metal of Kiss or Twisted Sister.
@omegajrz1269 ha! Those bands were bullshit nonsense. Do your research. Dolls were punk and inspired hundreds of punk bands. Don't let their costumes deceive you.
@@MARCD-tj8bw Kiss has some songs that I like. I admit it. But New York Dolls is much better. And the other glam ones like T. Rex and Sweet too.
I fucking love the New York Dolls - the best band ever to wear your granny's frocks! Fucking Marvellous!
1973..pretty fucking radical for the time.
