Inspiring video, everyone needs to be reminded of kindness. I talk to myself first.

I wish that schools would allow this type of lectures at the high schools, maybe there would be less bullying.

There wouldn't. Kids don't understand or care about that stuff.

@@Beautifulcoil : kids can bé taught the karma and consequence , and the kindness in the simple way suitable to their understanding . But the other religions will protest .
In USA , mindfulness meditation were taught at few school , to help them concentrate in studying more , because they were distracted by internet . And a couple of years ago, Christians in a district , signed a letter to protest , said that propagates Buddhism .
In the ideal situation , the kids and students at high school , universities , also the parents are taught the kindness and compassion too.

4 years later and I still have difficulty with being kind to others! In fact, I’ve gotten worse.!! I’m applying several techniques AB talks about ie, look at the bigger picture and focus on all the positive things , good qualities in the person instead of the negative things about them. It works but the hateful ill-will feeling doesn’t go away completely. But the duration doesn’t last as long either . So I’m doing something right !

Great talk as always. It starts with forgiving and loving self, and everything else in the past and future forever without expectation. Deep but hard to practice. Since outside world is competitive, fault finding and dishonest a lot of time... And rewards that negativity... But it still is worth being kind and forgiving than otherwise for ones own peace of mind...

One of the reasons why people won't let a person, who has made a huge mistake, off the hook is because people nowadays are very abusive. And, that is why people become traumatized and start to protect themselves so as not to be hurt again.

2 years later ... and I’m still losing it. But, the unkindness doesn’t linger like it used to. I was only unkind and filled with anger for maybe 3-5 minutes. That’s damn good. What I did was immediately focus on something that gave me a lot of pleasure. ... and it worked. Woohoooo!

It's not hard to be kind but people do not handle loyalty. The world disposes of each other for such small things. It's easier to push people out of our lives. I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong, but find even that act of kindness, is ignored. People assume they will find better or someone they feel fits their standards. This makes it hard to keep showing kindness or even encouraging others when it isn't appreciated.

Never helpful to be self-righteous or angry even when we were unfairly hurt.. Need to constantly reinforce this idea otherwise the mind does start to feel angry and fearful.. Buddha is so wise- desire and anger keeps this unending destructive cycle going. Only way is to realize this and change ones attitude without pride, let things be. Dharma is practical- unless one applies and practices, the mind can never change. Without internal peace, it's hard to be happy with any amount of wealth or ach

There's no perfection but it is kinder to all beings and environment to live contently and simply. But being defensive, having a strong ego to protect and manipulate others through fear, anger, and rating makes this place so hard to live for all beings... not considering how that actions affect everyone... wars, using up resources, unequal distribution, .. it's real, but nevertheless it's more helpful to be forgiving, see the good in everything and get through life. Never helpful to be self-rig

Actually, Jesus's point about a camel passing thru the eye of a needle has to do with attachment to wealth/materialism. The Buddha said similar things, and it seems to me the very fact that one must be able to give away all of one's possessions and take a vow of poverty in order to be ordained says that they're not all that far off on the issue.
That being said I do understand Ajahn Brahm was just being a goofball.

I doubt that would work - you have to be in an accepting state of mind to actually care about what he says. If you're not interested in being more peaceful and kind, nothing Ajahn Brahm (or anybody) says will change you.
