Making a Rebar Dining Table

- Inspiration for this table came from tying all that rebar for my house project:). With winter weather, I'm spending less time on the construction site so why not start on furniture for the house. For the base I used 6mm smooth rebar/dowels although regular rebar would work as well, I guess smooth will be easier to maintain. I made a jig on a table to place the bottom of the legs and the base to their right position. The steel base was made from 440x120x4mm steel pipes which I cut and welded into a rhomboid shape. I marked the position of each rod and then it was simply a matter of measuring the lengths of each rebar piece, cutting it and welding it to their marked position. All together, there were 112 rods of different lengths, all together approximately 100 meters. After all the welding , I spray painted the base with clear varnish for steel and other metals. Wooden tabletop was made from ash and mahogany. Mahogany was used as strips instead of wooden dowels, I thought it would look nice after trimming the edges of the table top. I planed each plank first with kuka robot and then with a planer. Grooves for the mahogany was also done by cnc robot. For gluing the pieces, I used one component polyurethane glue, It has great water resistant properties and it also expands to fill all the imperfections the robot may have done. After drying, I cnc milled the bottom of the tabletop in a shape of the steel base so it would sink in for about 1 cm. I sanded it first with belt sander 100grit and then with orbital sander 400 grit. I applied a few coats of water based varnish on both sides with light sanding in between each coat. I applied it with a brush. After drying, I connected the base to the top using 6x30mm screws.
I hope you like this this project! Please ask any question in the comments and as always, subscribe for more!:D

The book provides clear illustrations ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.
Always a pleasure to listen to a good music and watch master artist work his magic. What a masterpiece !
Thank you very much!😁
With a glass of red.
Better to listen some women talking non sense shit
or her magic?
The geometry of those legs just boggles my mind, I can't even imagine how much time you must have spent to figure it out just right so as to keep it from becoming a tangled mess. This is a fitting table and you'll be very happy with it! I love the simple wood color and sleek super modern design, the mahogany splines were also a really nice touch! Great work as always, keep it up!
This one was straight from the head so not so much time, it just worked the way I thought of it.. I couldn't explain it by words so I made a small sketch so my fiancee could approve it for the house ;) I'm really glad you like it, Thank you!
@@lignumchannel you are beyond talented my friend! If you ever want any olive wood for a project, hit me up! I'd love to collaborate!
I never tire of seeing your combination of craftsmanship, technology, and creativity to create beautiful things. Thank you
Thank you so much 😊
Another stunning piece. You make the whole process look and feel so easy (which it clearly isn’t!)
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching 😊 I'm glad you like it!
Wow!! Using your beautiful CNC robot arms to create the tongue and groove was amazing.
Never seen that before. 👍🙏
Thank you so much 😀 I think I may be the first to have done this hehe;)
It's been a while, what with the house and bass builds, since we have seen some furniture produced using the tools which instill a little envy in us all. Linear geometry meets the natural edge of a stunning table with two tone contrasts at each end achieved by somewhat expensively using full length Walnut tongues to achieve this beautiful effect. Lovely work once again, I'd love to spend some time at your workshop !!
:) Thank you very much! Yeah it was really time to make a video of something other than what I was doing lately.. And I quite enjoyed it!
Amazing ! Not everyday you see robots being used for routing wood. Fascinating.
:D Yep, after I've been seeing them every day for last 7 years, I start to wonder, is there another way ?;)
Honestly a perfect shop ? 😍
haha, when we made something for our house:
trim the table: circular saw is too main stream, let get the bot do it :)
domino or biscuit: too main stream, let make a channel :)
what about the thicknesser ? : nah, too easy :)
And we spend 5 time longer than usual project, the wife: it looks the same. Me: nah, totally different :)
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work, as always, very inspirational. Take care and stay safe my friend.
Hehe, Where is the fun in doing everything the way it's supposed to be done:D Glad you like it! Also take care and stay safe. Btw, how is that old chair holding up:)?
I like the uneven nature of how the planks are joined. Top work!
Thank you very much!:)
Gorgeous achievement on a no less superb music. Your creations are a pleasure for the eyes and the ears. Thank you craftsmen 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Svoja kucica, svoja slobodica... Super tehnicki uradjeno, cestitam. Jedino se nadam da ce to biti stol za cetvero prije nego sest ljudi. Noge su na malo nezgodnom polozaju kada sa duzih strana sjedi po dvoje.
Hvala! :)stol je 260x105 cm, stisnut ce se i deset;)
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Thank you very much! :)
Top... nota 10. Como sempre lindos projetos e mostrando todos os detalhes da fabricação.
Decki, sta da vam kazem, umetnicko delo kao i svaki put. Svaka cast!
Hvala puno Jovan!:)
Pure pleasure to watch.
Great job, as always.
Thanks again!:)
Stunning work!

Just WOW (as usual).
Thank you very much J W! :)
The whole thing is fantastic. Love the base, obviously. Also digging that top. Love the personality in it. No wonder your channel keeps growing so fast. Good quality creativity going on here. That base..... OH MAN that is sweetness.
Thank you so much Jeffrey, by reading your comment I think you like it more than I do!:D
Beautiful piece!
Thank you very much Juan!
Every aspect of your videos is an artistic treat for our eyes and our ears. Thank you for sharing this uniquely cool table with us. I hope you've had some decent enough weather to be able to work on your house. I'd think that January would usually be a rough month for construction. Take care.
Thank you, for watching, I'm glad you like it:) Amazingly Last two weeks were to wish for, so we did a lot, a week like that and it would be ready for roof, but next few will be bad..
Нет пределу совершенства. Отличное воплощение.
Impressive work!
Thank you:)!
Someone is getting one awesome table!!
haha, Glad you think so! Thank you Robert:)
It is stunning and looks like it weighs a ton!
Yeah It is not a light piece, I can slide it without a problem though ;) Glad you like it Juliet:)
Beautiful! I'm sure it was still a lot of work, but your jigging system made the base look reasonably straight forward to build.
Simplest way is usually the best way:) Glad you like it John!
새롭고 멋진 테이블이네요. 대단해요.
Krásná práce pan truhlář je šikovnej
Masterpiece!

Beautiful table and good job bro
Thank you very much!
Great idea... as usually
Thank you! 😊
Lijepo.Bravo!👍
Hvala Dražen! :)
Such a complex looking and intersting base design. Nice work and as with all your videos, I wish I had such an awesome robot.
Glad you like it! It is quite simple actually, just have to make sure the rods don't have same origin points and go to different directions.
@@lignumchannel It is intersting how simple the fabrication is compared to how complex it looks when finished. I also like how light the frame looks and the interesting light and shadow play it produces.
Amazing.
Thank you Matthew! :)
Wonderfull !
Thank you Bertrand! :)
Bravo!
Thank you Victor!:)
I have no words.
Keep 'er lit Bro!
Thank you Ivan!
amazing
Thank you J T! :)
Very beautiful. That base is so light, elegant yet substantial. Gorgeously constructed top.
Thank you so much! Yeah this one is quite lighter than my usual table builds. :)
Perfect!
Thank you!:)
Liked before watched.
4:12 that's an awesome cutting station btw
Thank you very much Matias! :)
Phenomenal
Thank you!:)
I am so surprised by the music compilation and I gotta day, i really dig the contrast!
The músic, the masterclass of carpentry un combination with other materials, the design, the idea, the fact in movement!!!, Anyway, The results, All Is art in this video!!!.
Thank you very much Cristian! :)
nice
vrais impressionnant ta cnc bravo
Genius
Glad you like it Peter!:)
Musical composition is an art form,,,just like the ideas that come out of your head,, Ten star design and it will be in your new house but I’m thinking the house will match it or be a little jealous of its attention.
:)Still a long way ahead of me but I hope the ideas I have for the house will compliment each other.. Glad you like it, thank you!
Insane
Hope in a good way ;)
nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Magnífico
Glad you like it Samuel!
Nice!
Now you have to make chairs to go with it.
Waohh Mantap sekali bang terimakasih banyak bos Sangat bermanfaat 👍👍
What the hell. Always creative and clever. You work with a different way of thinking 👍👏🏼. Your machines also are différent 😂🤷🏻
:D Thank you very much!
Beautiful design idea and build! And a good deal of precision bar cutting and welding!
In order to simplify a little the build I guess it would have been of help the drilling of holes on the legs plates (feet) and also on the rhomboidal tube structure. The size of said holes a little larger than the rods diameter, as to allow for their slanted insertion. This way all rods could be cut a little bit longer (no much accuracy required) and, being inserted in the holes, easily positioned for the welding. Also, the welding at the feet could have been done from the "floor" side, followed by the cutting of the stumps and grinding of the surface.
Anyway, using those lovely CNC robots for the wooden part overcompensates for any extra work you may have done on the metal...
Great video and thank you for sharing this great design! Now I am waiting for the chair set :)
:) Thank you very much, Glad you like the project. That Idea with the holes is brilliant, I wish I thought of that! There were a few times I cut the rods too short or too long or they moved, this would solve it.. I will surely use this advice on a chair set you mentioned!:)
the robot is crazy!!!
Favorite workshop machines :)
Chaotic, orderly, and simple all at once.
Encore!
Good
😁
I'm thinking to myself: "Wow, a nice DIY project with tools a lot of people may already have." Then you break out the orange robot. 1 of 2 no less!. And I go: "Nope, that ain't gonna happen." So. Many. Machines.
Still awed by the design, process, and workmanship.
Then you break out a small little dinky ratchet to attached the top to the base. My hope is restored. DIY it is...
👍
Hvala:D Da, imaš pravo, malo vuče na viseći neki most..
Beautiful wood/metal combo! But what a nighmare to keep clean - I guess compressed air will be the only way to dust off the legs 🙂
_Please_ do a video covering your robot setup process in more detail. I would love to have one of those Kuka robots in my workshop. You're putting them to good use in so many different applications which would otherwise require building jigs. I wonder how complex a job setup is and how much time you spend to "teach" the robots, e.g. for edge finding/zero positioning.
Thanks for your videos, I'm always looking forward to the next one!
Thank you so much for watching. I always have in the back of my mind that I have to make a video like that one but I i never seem to say, now is the time.. Idk, i will one day. I never spoke on my videos so it will be the most awkward thing hehe.. Thank you again!:)
Wow, Happy New Year!! What a beautiful piece of art, so simple yet so complex. What happened to my job application 😅🤓
Happy new year Asif! I'm sorry but I must have misplaced it somewhere..🤦♂️
Beautyfull .Make another with concrete top .
I just might consider your idea for a coffee table! Thank you very much!:)
How much did you guys sell this table for, if you don't mind me asking? Impressive craftsmanship and use of the robot arms too, BTW!
Great table, is it for your new house? And another question, are you writing the Kuka programs with the KCP or are you using a special software?
Thank you! Yes, my fiancee approved it:) I'm using mostly rhino cam plugin for rhinoceros and Irbcam to make krl files that robot reads.
rebar legs - hmm, leftovers from another large project? 🤔
(very impressed with the result; I've been wanting to buy a welder myself to make something similar but not sure I would ever be able to execute it as well)
oh, hope the house build is still going okay and the weather isn't allowing you down too much
Quite unusual but this rods were purposely bought just for this table hehe:) Glad you like it! Yeah the weather is typical winter but it was remarkably sunny last week so we did a lot. I think we will finish with most of concrete works and get it ready for the roof in a week or so.. Then a couple of weeks for roof preparation in the workshop and then around a week for Assembly..
R2D2 в столярке😂. 👍
Very nice as always 😀
What kind of soft do you use to set that robot ? You can do it straight from a CAD soft ? A quick overview of the back office would be appreciated 😀
Have fun there !
Seconded. I would love to understand the workflow you use integrating these robots into your shop processes.
Me too!
Beautiful table with an excellent design! Thank you for sharing. May I ask what planer you have, with the two vertical spindles as well? Thanks!
Thank you very much Micah! To be honest I'm not 100% sure about the model but it's made by Ledinek
@@lignumchannel Thanks! That planer always intrigues me.
❤️
What a great job. If its not a secret - what are dimensions of the table? Looking for inspiration to do something similar for myself.
Real nice, I want to make similar for a coffe chess table, could you please let us know the pattern or order in which you welded to have this pattern?
I love the process you used for fabrication of the steel... Did you have a 3D model you pulled measurements from, or were you procedurally generating the design in real time (tape measure + paint pen design😂)?
Thank you very much! :)This one was more or less straight from the head. I made a simple 2d layout of the tabletop for the robot.
Genius! Did you think of this while doing the house?
Yep, all that rebar we used in a house had its psychological effect;) Glad you like it Ellie, thank you!
Amazing design , does it wobble a bit with that kind of legs?
I was worried it would when I welded a first few rods but at the end it came out quite rigid.
Lovely table base! I understand the setting out on the large diamond table base top. But how do you know where to place the rods on the square feet?
Kunstwerk !!!
