#10 is the reason I preferred the "Batman: The Animated Series" (and later the Telltale Games) version of Two-Face - both times they had the underlying psychosis *before* the physical disfigurement, with the disfigurement exacerbating the situation, but not actually causing it.
The Dark Knight when he has that gun to the guys head after he sees Rachel's name is on the uniform also shows he had mental problems even before his half his face is burned off.
ironballs16 Thank you! I wholeheartedly agree with you. I loved how Batman: The Animated Series gave us glimpses into the darker side of Dent’s mind BEFORE the incident that would be the catalyst for his turn into Two-Face. I’m not surprised that Batman: The Animated Series won so many awards for writing even if it was intended for children. The writers were phenomenal and what helped make Batman: The Animated Series so great!

Actually Twoface's name originally was Harvey Kent but DC didn't want people to think that Twoface has something to do with Clark Kent (superman) so they changed it to Harvey Dent
Why did the New 52 want to have Two Face start off as an amoral defense lawyer? That sounds like it takes all the tragedy out of his character like they did with Mister Freeze.
Not really, he leads a bad life, and his wife ends up paying the ultimate price for his sins. It's a still a terrible tragedy when it's all said and done.
SPOILERS!!! You didn't mention his story from "The Dark Knight Returns". he does have plastic surgery in that one but his psyche is so fractured that when he looks in the mirror his entire face has been scarred. So he goes from getting plastic surgery, being rehabilitated, and released with help of Bruce Wayne to returning to his criminal ways once he's out because he only sees himself as a monster.
That was from the animated series, right? I thought it was kinda cool, especially the character design. Any other adaptation acknowledge his third personality?
A really late comment but I actually enjoyed that episode. It was very interesting. People with DID usually have more than one personality and one of those personalities are usually called "protectors", and the Judge can be interpreted as that.
Doctor Doom has the same problem as two face. Even though he is rich, a leader of a country, a powerful wizard, a brilliant scientist, a roboticist, a genius, and has tons of resources; he can never fix his face. He was even a God in one book, and he still couldn't fix his face. All because comic books.
sjhmagic1 He's fixed his face numerous times. It always seems to go away when he loses his power. Not sure why he didn't during the last Secret Wars though. Maybe he had just given up on it.
Wow. that's stupid. Why would they do that? He suppose to be really smart, and the white panther god said he was the best guy to rule the world. The fix isn't permanent, or it is a reminder of betryal. That is a major downer.
dragonstormx Hm. In the first Secret Wars, The Enchantress tried to tempt Doom with the offer of fixing his face. He responded that he knows the price of such things is too great, which is why he never did it himself. Not sure what he meant.
sjhmagic1 Doom is an odd guy. We're talking about a guy who thinks aloud because his armor records him and "every utterance of Doom must be recorded for prosperity". Sounds absurd, but in that same issue, he gains the power of Galactus. ...again, I think.
You're right, but not Ben's fault when the publisher is officially "DC Comics, Inc." and their site is dccomics-dot-com; it's been that way for decades
DC is the brand. Comics is the specification. It's like you could say DC TV or DC Extended Universe but you say DC Comics, because you're referring to the comics.
nerdsync did a video a couple of months ago explaining that "DC"comics doesn't really mean anything anymore. they're just letters now and aren't abbreviations for anything. so saying DC Comics is fine. and even so saying DC Comics is still necessary. like you just expect anyone to understand what you mean if you just say "DC"? DC what?, the clothing company? the Capitol of the United States? saying "DC Comics" isn't stupid.
Don't really think you can get plastic surgery done when half your face is basically missing. Sure you could get it done but Dent would still look messed. Just without looking intimidating. Not to mention back when Two Face debuted in 1942 their was probably little to nothing they could due with medical practice not being anywhere near as advanced as it is now.
TheBlues32 yea he would still have two faces. Just would not longer look like a interesting villain and more like a man that has one side of his face look like it was modeled after Micheal Jackson in his later years. Plus Batman already has one heavily done plastic surgery villain Thomas Elliot. So it would be kind of odd and hurt Elliot's character since other then being a childhood friend of Bruce the only thing he has going for him that sets him apart is the surgery
Nevermind any of that, there is no plastic surgery for mental scars. There are 3 possible fates established by DC: healed and married, dead by suicide, still on Arkham/still TwoFace. In Batman: The Dark Knight Animated (not really sure which one, the first or the second) he went under plastic surgery but his mental health remained scarred resulting in troubling cases..
Henrique Ruas de Figueiredo Fonseca You talking about The Dark Knight Returns, where Harvey's face is repaired but he sees it as completely scarred rather than healed? Well...at least both sides match.
But in the reality of the Batman comics there are people brought back from the dead, clones, etc. Some form of plastic surgery should be available to Dent. If it's set in the 30s (like TAS was... sort of) it makes sense. But Batman comics today takes place in the present (more or less) so him having no plastic surgery is silly.
Nolan's Dent also had his face set on fire rather than splashed with acid. Third degree burns too from the looks of it. That would have required a full-on skin graft
0:42 In the Dark Knight Returns Two-Face has his face fully restored but he's so deluded he thinks they made it so both sides were scarred rather than normal again. I know it's not considered a canon story line but I like the idea.
To be honest, they never use Two-Face to rob stuff during the day to give to charity because Two-Face is suppose to be not really the two evils in any form of media. I mean Batman said he fears Two-Face more then any of his foes and it's something the writers don't seem to acknowledge through out the years.
You neglected to mention that Harvey Apollo's turn as Two-Face was very short-lived...he was introduced in the Batman Sunday newspaper comic strip...after a few weeks, his criminal career ended with his accidental death. He was also considered for a villain on the 1960's Batman TV series....believe it or not,Clint Eastwood was proposed to play him...but the show's producers felt he didn't fit the kid-friendly tone of the show.
You missed out one thing, there- The Judge. In Batman:TAS/New Batman Adventures there is a short arc introducing a new character called The Judge, who begins a one-man-war against Gotham's criminal underworld and Two-Face in particular. At the end of the arc, however, it's revealed that The Judge is actually Two-Face himself- more specifically a THIRD personality created by Harvey Dent's subconscious to counteract his darker half, to such extent that neither Two-Face or The Judge knew they were the same person.
Ehhh...you got that a bit wrong. The Two-Faces go like this: Harvey K/Dent, his butler, Wilkins (using make up), Paul Sloane (genuinely scarred), and George Blake, (an idiot criminal who used make-up on the wrong side of his face). Oh, and Harvey Apollo was only in the Batman Sunday comic strips.
420 Pon3 Batman Forever isn't even close to the worst Batman film ever made. Have you forgotten about Batman & Robin? Batman vs Superman? I mean, Batman Forever was superior to The Dark Knight Rises imo.
@Kyle-Rollins's-comment "I still wonder where Harvey gets half one color half another color suits from": I've wondered about that too[, to be honest with you]. One guess I've had is that he buys two [normal] suits, cuts them in half [vertically] with scissors, then stitches together two halves of different-suits (as-in, stitches up left-half of Suit A with right-half of suit B[, etcetera etcetera])[, to make his unique suits].
In fact Harvey wants to stay this way. It even was established in the long Halloween that he enjoys the symbolism of his look. He was rehabilitated but he was forced by his twisted mind to return
no, but there is a reason for that. like the vid say two face is a gory and violent charterer, witch is a problem for the younger audience the green/blue colors are just a way to censor the "gory red". just like they did with Mr. Popo from DBZ :D
Yeah, sometimes characters have really good or apt deaths and that should be that. Unfortunately, it's extremely rare that such definitive ends are allowed to stick if they are popular and/or as Ben said, their deaths aren't pivotal plot points.
That "Robin year one storyline" was actually Robin (1993) #0 (after Zero Hour), not Robin: Year One. That issue was all about Two-Faces encounters with all the Robins. And what gives the impression they want anyone to forget about it? "Maybe I do hate the Batman! But I hate the kid TWICE as much!"
I find it odd they wouldn't use the character for over 20 years that's crazy, Two Face is one of the most interesting villains in Batmans Rogue Gallery
To your first point, plastic surgery was addressed in both the "Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel by Frank Miller and in the ever so amazing "Batman: The Animated Series" (which is the single best incarnation of Batman and I will fucking fight anyone who says different) In the former, Harvey Dent was given plastic surgery to "make both sides match" and, due to his insanity, he thought that the doctors had scarred both sides of his face. In the latter, there was an incredible episode entitled "Second Chance", in which Harvey Dent, having mostly suppressed the Two-Face personality, is about to receive surgery to fix his face in order to more fully give him control over his dissociative identity disorder. However, the surgery is interrupted by thugs hired by Harvey Dent's worst enemy: Two-Face!
I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned that back in the mid 70s that Two Face was offered membership in a two part Justice League of America storyline which pictured Two Face actually being given a try out to the JLA.
I honestly think he'd be insane if he didn't turn to a life of crime after the acid. He lost everything he worked for and his future, his wife left him, and everyone turned their back on him.
The reason he didn't get plastic surgery is explained in batman animated series. There was an operation planned to fix the damage. However, Two-face thought that if the physical damage was fixed, he as the alternate personality would disappear as well. Because of that, he organized his own abduction from the hospital, and the procedure didn't happen. He would never allow himself to undergo plastic surgery willingly.
From what I picked up from the comics was the reasons Joker cut off his face was to in part prove to Batman and everyone else that the reason he was the Joker was not because of how he looked. That even without looking like the Joker he was still the Joker. There are probably more reasons, but that was one of the ones I picked up on.
“He who fights with monsters should see to it that he doesn’t become a monster. If you gaze into the abyss long enough, the abyss will gaze back into you”.- Friedrich Nietzsche 🖤🖤
Well in the Protector of Gotham thing, Dent was framed by Tallyman and Great White Shark for those killings. Things went south from there when Batman tried to confront him about it and Harvey took offense to it rather than talk things out, probably something to do with his past of being afflicted with dissociative identity disorder, OCD, trust issues, and violence.
Yup, Batman: TAS had the better version of Two-Face. Not just in terms of look but also in how he was created. For those unfamiliar, here is what happened (ahem) As a boy, Harvey was relentlessly bullied by someone in his school. The bully spent a great deal of time harassing poor Harvey to the point where he decided "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" and he fought back. Tired of the teasing, Harvey punched the bully square in the face...and he felt good doing it (at first.) Then, the next day; he hears that the bully was hospitalized. This made Harvey believe HE was the one responsible for it happening. When, in reality; the bully was in the hospital for appendicitis. Needless to say; Harvey was so traumatized by the event, he swore he'd NEVER act violently again. Thus forcing him to suppress all anger, hatred and violent tendencies deeep inside of him. This led to the creation of "Big Bad Harv," Harvey's alternate personality. This part of Harvey wouldn't surfaced, unless he was under supreme psychological stress. Such an incident came when a gang boss by the name of Rupert Thorne threatened to expose Harvey's secret to the public. After "Big Bad Harv" took over, Rupert defended himself by (as the comics have said) throwing acid in his face. This left him both physically and mentally scarred. That right there, is leagues better than most of the comic version; especially the Lando version
The first one is sorta dumb. He isn't Two-Face because he's ugly, that scarring event coincided with the stress he endured in tackling organized crime and dealing with police corruption only to be disfigured in an attack. It broke him mentally and unearthed old psychological trauma he experienced at the hands of his drunk father beating him, which warped his perspective into two opposing viewpoints. He purposefully keeps his scarring cause he accepts this split identity as who he is.
when it comes to the Schumacher's movies is to act like they never happened and just pretend the 80s/90s batman movies was just the two tim burton movies
I think for the Tommy Lee Jones thing they didn't need to mention it because they brought up Billy Dee Williams a show he was replaced with Jones. So really I think they were being kind by not not mentioning Tommy Lee Joneses god awful portrayal of the Jok- I mean Two Face because they don't want our braincells to kill themselves one by one for remembering something that doesn't exist.
I swear on me mum that in Batman Rebirth it's eluded to that there's two 2-faces. At the time it was really confusing, but after hearing about Gilda's twins, I can't wait to see what happens.
Problem with #10 is although plastic surgery could fix his face, it wouldn't fix his mind (which was fractured along with his face). So why would Two-Face have the surgery, the scarred half face would help him as a villain, adding a degree of terror to his foes.
Another thing is Batman originally didn't get the giant penny in the Bat Cave from him. But from a bad guy called the Penny Plunderer. His real name is Joe Coin ( with a name like that you can guess what era this was) but the authors thouhgt he was out dated a wrote him and gave the penny to Harvey.
I really love this character.. he's so badass but he's also pretty weak.. I like how he's just a guy who's crazy and decides what to do with chance.. he doesn't need a special armor or to be extremely rich. But by weak I mean he's a bit underrated, he can't do much really, he isn't all that agile
Fixing his face wouldn’t have worked, Just like in the comics, Harvey dent was Crazy a Little while Before he Got his face Burnt, But The Burn is what finalized his Insanity
So a super quick google shows that Two-Face was framed for the whole C-List Villain Killin by Great White Shark with the added bonus of messing with the Penguin who had been employing Magpie, KGBeast, The Ventriloquist, as well as Orca
6:11 His obsession with twos is number three on the list?
Son, I am disappoint.
I am also disappoint
isnt there one version of him that has somehow gotten a third identity that the other two aren’t aware of?

"...a double-barreled shotgun." *shows pictures of Two-Face's double-barreled pistol*
"Shotgun"
Shows a M1911 taped to another M1911
I find it odd they wouldn't use the character for over 20 years that's crazy, Two Face is one of the most interesting villains in Batmans Rogue Gallery
I watch this channel 5% for content, 95% for the accents
Knocking over Gotham crews daily, and twice on Tuesdays at 2 o'clock...
Take a shot every time Ben says "two"
1:12 that Tiger looks like he just made an airline food joke and is waiting for the applause that’ll never come.
Thumbs up or thumbs down? I'm in two minds about this one! Where's my trusty coin?
Whenever these videos are uploaded, half the time I'm thinking "Why would this be something I should forget?"
I'd like to mention that two face was innocent in the one year later arc
Ben is actually great, I'm really enjoy listening to him
TheNateOspreay 001 same!
I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned that back in the mid 70s that Two Face was offered membership in a two part Justice League of America storyline which pictured Two Face actually being given a try out to the JLA.
Anyone remembers One-Face? Should've been #11.
Nick G. Scrolled way too far for a comment mentioning the atrocity that was One-Face.
Those other four two faces are all from pre crisis earth 2 though, which always had some quite crazy continuity.
Harvey Kent is related to Superman now
*Dent, dumbass.
I just noticed something. Ben used to not be allowed to say "wankers." It was bleeped out on every #hashtag. But now they are no longer.
How does this channel not have more subscribers!? It's hilarious, factual and awsome!
"...a constant menace to the various orphans..."
Um that he's the most underrated character in the Dark Knight Series
Yup, Batman: TAS had the better version of Two-Face. Not just in terms of look but also in how he was created.
For those unfamiliar, here is what happened
(ahem)
As a boy, Harvey was relentlessly bullied by someone in his school. The bully spent a great deal of time harassing poor Harvey to the point where he decided "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" and he fought back. Tired of the teasing, Harvey punched the bully square in the face...and he felt good doing it (at first.)
Then, the next day; he hears that the bully was hospitalized.
I'm surprised One-Face wasn't on here.
He purposefully keeps his scarring cause he accepts this split identity as who he is.
bonus for you what culture he was nearly played by Clint Eastwood along side Adam West's Batman
Mr freeze two face and joker have pretty depressing origins
Poison Ivy helped me lose my virginity early.
no mention of tommy lee jones?
it's best that anything to do with the Schumacher's films are forgotten all together. 😉
when it comes to the Schumacher's movies is to act like they never happened and just pretend the 80s/90s batman movies was just the two tim burton movies
You got that right. I blame the screenwriter, Akiva Goldsman, for "Batman & Robin." What a disaster that movie was.
Lol... I was waiting on them to rib him.. and I was looking for some info on his portrayal in the Dark Knight
Three jokers and five two faces
Not gonna lie. The music in the background made this countdown even worth it.
But yeah…these are quite interesting facts here!
Always found it weird that he popped up after his Suicide 😂.
I swear on me mum that in Batman Rebirth it's eluded to that there's two 2-faces. At the time it was really confusing, but after hearing about Gilda's twins, I can't wait to see what happens.
Boy! You really like that image of Poison Ivy, don't you! (so do i)
Problem with #10 is although plastic surgery could fix his face, it wouldn't fix his mind (which was fractured along with his face). So why would Two-Face have the surgery, the scarred half face would help him as a villain, adding a degree of terror to his foes.
I've come to the conclusion that it is impossible to do a "10 things dc wants you to forget about..." Without mentioning the New 52
Actually Harvey Dent did become good and got plastic surgery in the "Hush" storyline. (He also stayed that way)
With that being said, being played by Tommy Lee Jones should be on the list..
6:28 anybody notice that they have nicked the design for Death Head II and stuck it on the coin?
So a super quick google shows that Two-Face was framed for the whole C-List Villain Killin by Great White Shark with the added bonus of messing with the Penguin who had been employing Magpie, KGBeast, The Ventriloquist, as well as Orca
This 10 things someone wants you to forget about someone is Blampied's thing... GIMMICK INFRIGEMENT
