FYI, you can remove the park lines by making them as small as possible (it eventually removes it). Also “voice” in custom steering controls is also on the AX100. DSO is gimmicky, just makes the speakers sound like they are higher up. I have it turned off on mine. Though people with stock speakers seem to notice a difference. Source: I own a XAV-AX100 haha Good videos mate! Makes me want to add more mods to my car haha
7:55 That thing is to make it look like an aftermarket head-unit with a removable face-plate which has been removed. It's like a false backing in the form of a face-plate cover. Not a perfect solution, but probably helps for a glance.
I haven't played a cd in 15 years so I went with the ax100 which I love. 100 gigs of music on my phone which google assistant plays under voice control.
Great review! Here's a question I didn't see an answer to, can you insert a HDD to save the camera video to? Wasn't sure if there was a splitter you could insert between the camera connections or if it has the ability to store video directly to a disc drive whether it's a sd card or an actual external hard drive?
I love your videos bro, i have almost watched all of them. I love watching an actual installed for a change. I like watching doug on amplified but he has got so far away from actual car audio. Sweet vids keep’em coming 👍👍👍👍
Great video. Thanks for the overview. I'm in the US and planning on getting this unit very soon. Here in the US the SiriusXM module is included with the unit so nice to have, but with mobile devices not really necessary I guess unless you live in an area with terrible cell reception.
I think the cover is to cover display, while the movie plays for the rear sear passengers (behind the front seat headrest)... main screen kept covered so it does not distract/spoil movie experience in dark... but still no idea why there is the slit..
You pronounced español really good man, and the black cover is to let down any theft looking inside your car so he may think that theres no stereo, a really good ad on for latin american countrys
Great video, very instructive. One question talking about reverse camera, some green lines appear at the bottom of the screen showing an imaginary extensión of the car. Do you know how to modify those lines to make them go throughout the whole screen?
Its possible that the green lines you are talking about is not part of the sony radio at all but rather built into the reverse camera's software itself. Thus there is no way to edit the green lines
I've seen some owners' review on AX100, they did that to make the parking lines disappear. But have you really tried to do that on the AX200? I'm asking because I'm really considering to get the AX200 due to its 4V Pre Outs, but worry that the camera lines will annoy me since my car's factory reverse camera should have its own lines.
Can somebody explain what the physical forward/backward buttons exactly do in the XAV-AX200 model while listening to the radio? I mean, do they jump from one preset to another? Or do they simply emulate the on-screen seek buttons (either manual or automatic)? By the way, I suppose that while playing a CD they allow jumping from one track to another, right? Thank you very much. I find these details important, but reviews rarely explain them.
Thanks a lot man. The video answered almost all of my questions I had about this headunit. Particularly if I need to use a module to connect it to the steering wheel controls in my Subaru Outback 2011 (fortunately not) and if I'll be able to use side camera when backing up (sadly not). So I guess the only option how to see the picture from other cameras when backing up would be to not connect the reversing wire, which would mean I have to switch on backup camera manually every time I put the reverse in. Or do you have any other idea how to solve this?
Does this unit actually play CDs? I read somewhere that it could only play DVDs.. Also was wondering how customisable are the steering wheel controls? I have a 2011 Corolla Sedan (Australia) with the OEM headunit and can currently change between inputs using the 'mode' button, which treats AM and FM + FM2 as separate modes so I don't need to touch the unit to change - was curious if this could be set up similarly. Also wondering if I would be able use the steering wheel controls to switch between radio presets?
I have a USB that has videos on it. What is the max GB that this radio plays? For an example I have 256GB USB will it play all that or is it less than that?
I am wanting to mount an aux input into my dashboard for this stereo. Can I plug a 3.5mm aux cord into the mic input for streaming music? Very helpful review, thanks man!
What is the time from car ignition start to display of the backup camera?? On my existing system it’s about 7 secs, anything more than that is painful for my driveway...
No you either have to buy the Sony XAN-V400 navigation module to add gps functionality to the radio or plug in a phone for android auto or apple car play
Great review. Do you have any idea if the cage is a unique part number for the kit? In the US, that stereo doesn't come with a cage, and b/c it's not quite a double-din, I can't seem to find a cage that will fit and align with the holes on the side of the stereo. The little support shelf looks perfect as well. I'm just wondering if Sony might sell it as an extra part.
Weird I didn’t realize that us versions didn’t come with it, obviously a regional thing. I would say that any standard current double din Sony cage will work with it but you probably won’t be able to get one with the built in shelf.
I had a cheap radio that actually had a flag you could plug in the front once you removed the face to let thieves know that the radio is not worth taking lol.
I just installed the US version on my jeep wrangler. It didn't come with the anti-theft cover. Also when I press and hold the home button, the unit doesn't power off, only when I turn the key off it cuts the power. Even the manual does not mention the power off button. How do you connect the reverse camera to view when not on reverse? I connected mine to the reverse light but can't view it using the camera button.
That’s because you’re powering your camera off the power that turns on the reverse light. You want the reverse light to trigger the stereo when in reverse but you want to power the camera of switched acc. Hopefully your camera came with an RCA that has that little red wire poking out. We like to use that to get acc power down to the camera and then find the reverse trigger up the front of the car somewhere. If it didn’t and you’ve only got an RCA with no power wire in it, you are goin to have to run a wire all the way down to the camera from the acc wire in the stereo cavity to power the camera. Hopefully that helps.
@@caraudioetc the two extra camera inputs are really best suited for mounting one above the tow ball to make aligning up with a trailer that much easier while the other camera input is for a camera in the front. The front camera is to see if you can pull up closer when parking. 😄
That’s exactly what it is my friend Sony has it listed on there parts site as an anti theft if a thief were to look in your window it looks like you don’t have a stereo..that’s what Sony says it’s for to throw thief’s off there game
Hey! Looking at the docs for this online. Wondering if I can retain my factory backup cam by cutting the 3 wire harness and connecting to rca. Thoughts on if this is possible and if so what to where?
+Shaun Robertson it depends on your car and camera but usually yes, we do that quite often but be aware some cameras run off 6 or 8v dc not 12v So some testing is needed first.
US and Europe users : Oh look this fake plate I wonder what this is? Latin America users : OH MY GOD AN ANTI THEFT PLATE!!, THANK GOD I HAVE BEEN ROBBED 4 TIMES IN A YEAR !!!
I would use the plastic cover to hide my new head unit from my girl... "No I didn't spend anymore money on my car......" lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 the same for me
anti-theft cover, the bump is for a fake looking faceplate connector.
Brilliant! Hahaha
haha it took me a min but I get it now.
that cover is hilarious. I've seen a couple of people make them.. it's a disguise to look like you took the face with you haha

I am running stock speakers and was wondering where all that ear biting trebal was coming from and yeah it was DSO lol.
Yes is anti theft and it's actually genius cuz car thieves don't break in your car if they look in there in the face is off your radio

That face plate mimics the look of the Sony Radio with the Removable screen

You can turn off the parking lines, just decrease the size of each line until they disappear.

Probably a dumb question but im really new to this. why is there just one port for the sub? i currently have to use two on my pioneer 1din.
Hi. I love the video, but got a couple questions. Can I play the dvs while driving? Also can I install a gps without having to use my phones gps?

Nice review and comparison. Thanks for the upload.
is the startup time quicker than on the xav-ax100? ive seen vids of the xav-ax5000 and it has to be 1/4th the startup time of the 100
I am wanting to mount an aux input into my dashboard for this stereo. Can I plug a 3.5mm aux cord into the mic input for streaming music? Very helpful review, thanks man!
No worries
Ah no you absolutely cannot plug an aux cord into the microphone input.
Best review yet
Video out is a main feature in ax200bt but missing in ax100. On the other hand ax100bt plays most of the video format.
Thanks for the info, so can I do Android car play with this unit?
@ekim andersom finally a good response 🤣
I'm debating on buying this unit. Does the physical buttons change colour? The blue would be tacky when everything is lit up red.
Plasma Blue WRX no, you can't change the color
Niklas Schmid Thanks for the information!
@@plasmablue7796 in the recent update you can customize the colors to whatever you like

Can you add your own wallpapers? Also can you play dvs whike parked? How is the quality btw?
You can import your own wallpaper
I just installed it yesterday and I'll be adding a review to my RUclips channel tomorrow
@TheHiddenArchives my dude's asking the real questions here. Why didn't ya post your radio review hmmmmmmmmmm??? 🤔
I would use that cover to protect the screen during installation
Does navigation work with offline maps in Google Maps? I live in a remote area and don’t have data on my cell phone.

Whereabouts are u in Auckland m8?

Will this radio fit in a BMW e46 3 series? I was able to fit the XAV-AX100BT into my e46 given the single din chasey

you can turn the reversing lines off just press > < untill it goes off but i do perfer the other lines these ones i cant judge
Great review, thanks!
Anti theft panel. back in the day this was more common before the detachable faceplate.
Is there a startup warning note similar to that of ax100?
Do you know if i can use the steering controls (Mazda MPV 3rd gen) for switching between cameras (front and side)?
Thanks for the video but I have a question. Does the ok screen go away on boot up by itself like kenwood and pioneer or do you still have to press ok?
i have an xav-ax100BT and it does eventually go away on its own but it takes quite a while. Can't give an exact time but probably like 3 minutes.
Mine didn’t come with the anti theft face plate cover. Where can I get one?
So a single mono output for a subwoofer?... Why not a double. Most Amps use a double rca input
I have a WRX and I’m looking, with no luck, on the resistive 3.5 pigtail and how to connect it so the unit can learn the steering wheel controls.
Message me, I used an AUX cord for steering wheel controls on my WRX and works perfectly. I can help ya out.

Can you adjust eq while listening to music?
Yes
Does this stereo comes with a GPS
What’s the boot up time ????
Ax200 also dose XM Rado too
Id assume like you said. An anti theft cover

How to use USB Drive(Pen Drive) with this device..
Because adding an obsolete media player is an upgrade. Why Sony? Why...?
True but you never know if you are going to need it. Its just nice to have. But not nessasary.
Bruh I wish I could play cassettes in my car 😤
It's a card holder..
The plastic piece is to hide the stereo from thieves. A good idea but if the thieves know this it's pointless. No source, just my logic.
It's to make it look like it has the face taken off, so people wont steal it
