  • Sony have announced a follow-up to the original a7c camera, the Sony a7c II and this is packing some serious power as a hybrid camera but in a body that feels like a compact, lightweight system. With a 33MP sensor, the latest tech from Sony's ai and autofocus systems as well as some decent video specs, this is looking like it might be the perfect combination of a travel sized camera but with full frame power. Let's talk about it.

    Great review thanks!
I just sold my Fuji XT4 (I loved) and Sony ZV1 (I hated) and have the a7Cii on order! Buying predominantly for vlogging and travel as my a7s3 (which is my main workhorse and I love to pieces) is just too heavy for me for vlogging and also very obvious with a top mic, it also just doesn’t cut it for photos on a travel trip where I only want to take a single cam.
Contemplated the a6700 because of form factor and 4K120, but didn’t want to have to buy new glass or make adjustments with my FF glass. A;so reviews have shown the 120 is a bit sketchy, so I’d rather avoid. Knew a7Cii was likely coming soon so held off!
I was holding on for the mark 2 as 4k30 on the original just wasn’t enough for me. I don’t use 4K 120 that often, only for work, where I will continue to use my a7s3 anyhow. Will miss the Fuji as I adored that camera for photography, but it just wasn’t viable for video, and so I was finding I was having to decide what to shoot more of before a trip. And I’m pretty hybrid with a little more weight on video.
I’m so looking forward to not having a giant camera and therefore having a camera on me more often.
The new ECM-M1 top mic looks fantastic too, I have the larger ECM-B1M Sony digital shotgun and it’s impeccable, but it doesn’t allow full directional rear pick up only, so I will likely buy the new one as it allows so many pick up patterns and will be incredible for vlogging.
    Exciting times for Sony users!

I just bought a A7IV. I’m tempted to return it for this specificity for the smaller and lighter size.

My question is that if I buy A7Cmark 2, will I be able to rely on the view finder to the point where I would not need to use LCD screen to make changes? I have hard time reading fine print from that close. If I need to use LCD, than I rather get ZVE1.

Getting back into photography, just bought a used Fuji X-E4 (for more than new, of course), and am having fun with it travelling, but I have to say this one is tempting... I just think I would feel weird walking around exotic places with a camera worth a local annual income, while I feel okay about the Fuji. Hypocritical? Anyone else hesitating to get cameras over two grand for travel photography?

The only bad thing in this camera is the shutter speed 1/4000. not bad but a limit

Better hybrid ? This or a6700

They both are. Better hybrid for full frame: A7CII. Better hybrid for apsc: A6700. Depends if you want full frame or apsc.

      A6700 is prone to over-heating. A7Cii has no issues…
