Very good info. You are the first to talk about this. I work as an Aircraft Mechanic and disinfect and flush the aircraft potable water system on a regular basis. We use a different process, but just the same it's important to teach this maintenance practice to your viewers.
@@DIYOutdoorLife we have a large unit that mixes ozone with the water. When the ozone reaches the correct level for X amount of time we cycle it through the the potable water system until we get a reading that sanitation is complete. We then dump and rinse the system.
I just got my Bushwhacker. Now after watch this I just have to keep my tank clean i feel safe drinking and cooking from the tank. Heck its just like drinking from the water hose outside when I was a kid in the 80s.
Unfortunately, Braxton Creek swapped there inlet several times. I can send a link to some stock parts, but you will have to match up your inlet. I have put together a two way filter that goes to .5 micra to ensure good quality goes in. Also i have been more conscious on what I let go into the drain in the sink of my teardrop
Good idea! I do the same thing with the sink, w/ no grey tank it just drains out to the ground. I try to bring all of my cooking and drinking water separate, the tank can get pretty gross.
Something like this is what I used.. you can find plastic too. I added a small half inch nipple to make the connection. www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGXLVS5/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_EC1BHX308KMKNV08KRJQ?linkCode=ml2&tag=diyoutdoorl0f-20
One way to start the cleaning process, especially if you’ve been camping and are headed home, is put the bleach in just before leaving the campgrounds, preferably have a 1/4 tank of water, not much more or less. This allows the water to slosh around in the tanks, with some force at times from the movement, working its way up the tank and the top of the tank. When you get home you can fill the tank all the way up, but why drive with a full tank and limit the ability of the water to hit the walls good.
I’ll have to put something together. Braxton Creek makes it hard because they use 3 different inlets and each one requires a different mod. Mine is the dura faucet connection, a lot of Bushwhackers have 1 of 2 different air hose connections that they used.
Thanks for watching! I made the faucet with a few different parts from Amazon, The part that’s tricky is the BW has a variety of different connections. Here is the spout, you’ll have to make the connection depending on what inlet you have.. hope this helps! amzn.to/3lJ57VO
I am SO glad I found your channel! At this point a teardrop is the most viable for me in the future. ALL your info on the Bushwacker has been a blessing, Thank You!!!
You don't have to but you could if you wanted to. With the measured amount of bleach that we're using, the residual amount left over is far less than what's commonly used to treat water in municipal buildings. I always bring separate drinking water, even a sanitized tank can be nasty. This cleanse is recommended to keep people from getting sick. Hope it helps!
It has half the current carrying capability - 15 amps instead of 30. You can still safely run the air conditioner plus other small appliances without any issue. You can run your AC, lights, fan, dc fridge etc and not worry. Don’t plug a hair dryer, microwave, or a waffle iron in while your AC is running. Using the 30 amp gives you really high capability, 15 is sufficient for most.
@@DIYOutdoorLife Our BW is treating us very well. We're in the process of additional mods to make our future trips even better. Has yours made a come-back from your review video?
Thanks for the tip on adding drops of bleach to sanitize the water. I also had my eye on that faucet attachment you have there in the back. I haven’t been able to find anything online like that. Where’d you find yours?
Awesome tips Brian! I was wondering how to clean my tank. Side note, I picked up a bottle of some kind of solution that says keeps your tank water fresh longer. It's something like a capful per 20 gallons. Do you recommend bleach over store bought sanitizers?
I do, but to each their own. In my experience, they either do not work or they’re bleach sold for more money in a dif label…lol A friend just told me about an exciting new way to try, but so far nothing has worked like a little bit of bleach.
Very timely Brian. When I first got a Class C motorhome I had heard about winterizing but did not know what it was. I got quotes from a couple of rv shops and thought it was expensive so I did research. My cost was just a gallon of rv antifreeze and my time. Very easy to do. I emptied the water tank and flushed both the black and grey water tanks and also emptied the hot water tank and turned on the by-pass valve and put an air compressor with an attachment on to the water fill line. Then blew out the water lines until no more water came out of any of the faucets. Once I knew that all the water was out of the system, I put rv anit-freeze into the sink and shower p-traps, and some into the toilet. Same as you, I did this in the Fall and Spring. Also used the same method of using bleach to purify the water tank at the start of the season. Now that I have a teardrop trailer on order it will be much simpler as it does not have an installed water tank.
You're going to love the difference in maintenance for sure! Especially w no water tank! I am putting my video out on winterizing very soon. Thanks for watching!

That's interesting, do they chlorinate the water they use for potable?
@@DIYOutdoorLife yes, we test for a proper chlorine level. Since the water supplied comes from a local town no additional chlorine is needed.

Very good info. Didn't know about the 1/4 tablespoon of Bleach.
¼ TEAspoon … it’s a very small amount. It’s amazing how well it works and doesn’t smell or taste.
Definitely doing this to my camper. Didn't think about putting the 1/4 teaspoon of bleach in the water tank. Makes sense.
The smallest amount keeps it from ever getting bad

You’ll be okay either way. If you drink the water, a couple rinses will remove taste, especially if you use the baking soda trick.

Vinegar works for cleaning but won’t disinfect. Good to use for a good tank clean though.
