It is network, and it is in a studio....but Iggy Pop maintains his energy and makes it great. Dude, he is unstoppable. He puts it on the line... everytime!
💜 Not too long after this appearance, I was fortunate enough to catch the Iggy/Pretenders show in Oakland, CA... Iggy was literally awesome, a whirling dervish of a Tasmanian devil on stage, blew my young mind and changed the trajectory of my life. Greetings from Japan.
Great performance, but it's also worth taking a moment to appreciate his backing band representing the various possible permutations of the mullet. Drummer with the classic redneck mullet, bass player with the permed mullet, rhythm guitar with the ponytail mullet, and keyboard with the balding mullet. Lead guitarist must be guesting.
@@TabethaAurochs Is that from a chapter in one of Henry Rollins' books, or something that you heard on a podcast? I would be very interested in reading it or hearing it. So if you see this, and can let me know, that would be great. (I did a Google search, but had no luck). Thanks in advance.
An even more obscure but boring fact is that it was originally recorded and also written by Johnny O'Keefe with two other writers. It was covered by Jerry Allison and Jerry Lee Lewis after they returned from a 1958 tour of Australia where they heard Johnny perform it live.
@@jeffkaufman9875 Johnny was Australia’s big rock ‘n’ roll star but unknown outside of it. My favourite is the Jerry Lee version which is perfectly suited to his style.
@@jeffkaufman9875I really liked the show as a kid, but seeing it again as an adult, I realize that Edna Garrett wasn’t an ideal role model or caregiver for four teenage girls. Her personal life is pretty chaotic. She seems to forget that they are all minors and students at the school where she works, not her peers. The four girls also work in the school cafeteria for no pay for literally years as a consequence for property damage.

Clicked on this for the performance but so glad the "Facts of Life" discussion was included--reminds me of how much I loved this show.
Iggy:"I'm the chairman of the bored."
Thought Carrottop was. (Thanks Norm).
The performance still holds up! I remember this one like it was yesterday.

Tremendous performance!
He always gave great interviews with Dave too. ⭐️

Damn right
both Dave and Iggy are 40 years old here!

Yeah, it was the beginnings of mullet mania here in America.
Iggy Pop
One of the most humble performers .. because he came from humble beginnings!
"fabulous babe" 🤣
That was a stirring conversation about a landmark television program. I learned a dew things from that and from Mr. Pop's performance.
Full of energy. Great performance. Thanks Dave!
"Crocodile Dundee 2" lol 😅😅
👍🏼🦘🐊
FYI
Iggy is still alive and kicking at 76
Yeah he was sending high kicks at Paul from go lol
Man was 40 here, hasn't aged in 36 years. Granted, he looked 76 at the time, as well.
2:14 I loved singing and playing this on stage. Crowd always went off. I used to sing the keyboard line in the intro though.
An oldie but a a goody dear Mr Letterman you should run for President, your just sooooo intelligent.
Keep on keepin on ❤️✌️🤓👍
He's only Five Foot One & Enjoys Swedish Magazines 🎸 !
Mick Jagger wishes he had those moves. Wow, bring on Friday night! Great choice! Thanks Barbara and Dave!
What a showman Iggy Pop is ,the best
Pure FUN!!!!😊
Anybody who likes Soupy Sales is OK in my book.
Love you, Soupy!!
Rest in Peace. 🕊
Iggy moves like Mick Jagger on speed.
Yes. But Jagger's moves come from James Brown.
Love me some Iggy Pop.
Marilu Henner is gorgeous!
So now I'm looking forward to Willie Nelson and George Carlin tomorrow.
Why?
recommend looking up Henry Rollins talking about attempting to outdo Iggy at festivals and coming up a bit short.
But Henry is a huge fan of Iggy's.
He used to write a weekly column in the LA Weekly newspaper, and he always spoke very highly of Iggy.
"YOU'RE GOING DOWN IGUANAMAN!" 😂❤ Henry's Iggy story is one of my favorite things in all of ever. That's how you give Iggy Pop his 💐

Henry was like the 10th singer of black flag lol
Good performance, and it was great seeing The World's Most Dangerous Band backing him up. They all had hair!
El es atrevido en su actuar . Eso lo hace único. Gracias Iggy
It's OK, Iggy's alive and kicking and still taking names; uploads like this really ought to come with a warning.
Yes, he is, and yes, they should.
👍💯❣️
He had a lot of energy
Obscure Fun Fact: “Real Wild Child” was penned by Buddy Holly and The Crickets drummer, J Ivan Allison…

@sponge Thanks again; I’ll have to check it out!..
I recently re-watched all of “Facts of Life”, including the “Down Under” and “Goes to Paris” films. It does not hold up.
@kstepko Did it ever REALLY hold anything worth holding?..

Looove Iggy
Iggy Pop: Proof that you don't have to know how to dance in order to let the rhythm take control.
Iggy Pop high on life…only. Classic!
I love the Soupy Sales story. Too bad Soupy Sales didn't have a show in Ireland; Bono could have been a good songwriter.
Back when America had good music and high morale. Good times.
He's definitely a wild one.
❤️
He's a wild one.
Oh yeah, he's a wild one.
Iggy you were great with the other 3 stooges
Weird not seeing Iggy’s chest
Please post Iggy playing Cold Metal with Steve Jones alongside The World’s Most Dangerous Band.
Hello America!
lol. Iggy playing to a bunch of squares that didn't appreciate him.
Don’t worry! Iggy is ok
America's version of Mick Jagger? 👍
Join us tomorrow night for Willie Nelson and George Carlin. No big deal.
turn the volume down and it gets even worse
As messed up as the U.S. is now this seems like it’s from another planet
Iggy is cool.....
Or we could just be thankful Barb let’s us have these and not assume the worst? 🤷♂️👍
Iggy has one speed, go.
I hit iggy in the head with a cabbage Detroit 1981...lol lol
RIP
Odd seeing Iggy wearing shirt and jacket.
that was stupid and funny.
Raaaaage!
Only an Aussie gets that 😂
dude rode the gravy train on the low talent spectacle racket
All the way to the hof,
5th comment, 8th minute 😊
This was definitely Iggy's lowest point musically.
Greta Thunberg stole blah blah blah from Iggy Pop.
Rest in peace Iggy. This was a terrible way to find out such sad news.
Iggy Pop is alive❣️❤
They're uploading fun segments,
to celebrate the new year.
Stop the madness!
Why you say something like that? Terrible

without Googling, first,
because Letterman, also, uploads segments immediately after folks die, as a tribute.
