As much as I do like a bit of modern day movie musicals, I prefer the old fashioned ones too or on stage. They just have refreshing quality that are still a bit resonant today.
What bothered me about this song and the "do re mi" song is, all the characters in the movie supposedly speak German, yet these songs have plays on English words.
When I took German in high school, we learned that "zeigen" is the verb "to show." But sometimes we got our vowels mixed up and said "ziegen" instead. The teacher said, "Nein, nein! 'Ziegen' means 'goats'."
Maria's high notes are astounding, but I simply adore that sigh of amazement and astonishment Georg lets slip when he witnesses her talent. My favorite part hands down! You can just tell how taken with her he's becoming, or possibly may already be.

Watching this when I grew up I could see why everyone feel in love with Julie Andrews as Maria, she's gorgeous and a voice to match. This is one of my favorite scenes and I love the Sound of Music. Watched this movie 6 times over Easter weekend with my 4 year old daughter and it never gets old.
I watched this movie last night. Great story and cast. I thought little Gretyl was so cute. She makes you smile watching her.
