I'm a Christian and all for God and Christ-related songs, but everything that I've found says that it is co-written by Marcus Hummon, Bobby Boyd, and Jeff Hanna in 1994. God Bless The Broken Road tells how the journey through relationship heartbreak and disappointment was an important series of lessons along the broken road to finding one’s true love. It was first recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1994, followed by Hummon on his 1995 album All in Good Time. I think it technically is a love song, and I know that for Rascal Flatts (at least one or more of them are Christian), it likely has a double meaning since they're married. But it could just as well be whatever we personally want it to represent and could definitely fit in the scenario of a person's walk with Christ and coming to Christ after earthly relationships and love have failed us.
