You are so right about how interesting is the Chechen wars a few days ago I was reading veteran interviews from that era and it is very interesting! I also find that people are obsessed with ww2 especially the western front so it is getting less interesting although the Chinese role in ww2 is really interesting.
@@Gr-zny okay I’m building a vityaz clone now. It’s pretty straight forward with the exception of being able to find out what weapon mounted light was used in 2006(the year vityaz came out)-2010 time period (or let’s just call it second chechen war). I’m COMPLETELY new to what’s called milsurp? (Is that what this type of collecting is called?) Anyway, if you happen to know that would be amazing and if you happen to know where to find more info like this that would be amazing because googling the words russian military at all regardless what you put next just gives shitty ukraine war articles. Much appreciated.
The thing that Russia has gotten right with it's military gear is that it's simple and straight to the point. It may not look fancy but it gets the job done
4 yrs. ago i bought a wonderful Russian, blue wind-up clock, and a Altimeter/Barometer from a MIG jet. When the senseless war ends, would love to visit RU & Ukraine antique stores & museums.
Dope, dude. I have been collecting random militaria for the last decade, but never jumped on any Russian stuff. Today, though, my coworker gave me a Splav M23 chest rig for free, and it's brand new!
Talking about the Chechen wars, check out the russian movie purgatory if your interested in that kinda thing. I did a short review of the movie on my channel as well.
You can, but it's gotten a lot harder/more expensive as you basically need to buy it as warloot as neither side is really selling their own stuff anymore. I prefer to buy my stuff from Ukrainians as I have contacts there and can get a reasonable price but it's pretty gruesome to know that someone died in it. But it does support their war effort and it adds to its history imo.
Interesting video, I've always wondered about Russian surplus. There always seems to be lots of surplus available *which kind of makes sense, big country. I can't say I can agree with WWII being boring. I get that a lot of attention is focused on it as it was a global war, rather then a local one but WWII in itself, life span and advancement in technology at the time is pretty interesting in my opinion.
No doubt WWII is interesting it’s just that I’m tired of it being the ONLY war that 90% of military forums and military collectors talk about. It gets boring hearing the same “Wwii Germany better tank then America” discussion for the 40th time
WW2 is particularly neat to me because if you adjust for annual inflation, and the rate at which resources and raw material are available- wwII was the biggest war humanity is capable of. We couldn't give a war effort half as strong today, the economic penalty it would have would break a lot of countries now days . Resources are also dwindling and by 2060 coal will start to even run dry. It's like, we're emptying our own arsenal to supply a single country in war with Ukraine, and we're only 10% capacity for war complex that we were in ww2? We may never get another war as huge like that again
Russian gear and camo from that era, is super cool, just the asthetic, super utilitarian, the design of the gear is so well thought out , i havnt got much money, but iv managed to get a few examples of most of the common camos, a vsr 93 scout suit, a couple of gorkas, and other misc stuff, then putin overnight pretty much destroyed the hobby for me when ebay, and a lot of other sellers were put under sanction, what an arsewipe.....
As a Neo Soviet, I can Clarify that post and also after Soviet Collapse Surplus is a matter of fact Drip. Usually I am the Older type of guy who likes the long coats and ornate-well made post soviet Uniforms or Weaponry. and the great thing about being in america, you can own a firearm or more, but it does depend on which state you live in. Or else you wouldn't be able to own 5 AK-47's, A T-34/85, and some really cool Soviet Collectibles. Those were just examples. I don't have all of that 😐Nor do I fortunately have that kind of money to afford such liberties.

Yes exactly the huge WWII obsession people have makes me immensely uninterested in the war

Don't know about that chief
Absolutely that's why it's so ubiquitous
No that's the good part, the designers almost always end up making it look awesome while very functional
