Successful teachers build lesson plans that are carefully structured around the standards and objectives students need to master. The best lesson plans incorporate warm-ups, modeling, active learning, student collaboration, individual practice, and formative assessments. Plans should be highly organized in a template to assure quality and repeatability from year to year.
Lesson planning provides a clear path for learning and allows a teacher to make sure they are progressing in the right direction. It keeps classroom activities organized, maximizes instructional time, and ensures students are meeting curriculum standards. When your lesson plans are both clear and engaging, students are more likely to perform well and demonstrate growth.
When you structure your lesson plan, begin by deciding what you want to teach. Use a template (try ours!) to structure your lessons based on the state standards you are covering with your students. Once you have identified what you will teach using your state standards, you will determine how you will teach it. The instructional process will take up the majority of the time in your lesson plan. It should detail, step by step, what you are teaching in full-class instruction, and how students will independently practice the content you teach. At the end of the lesson, check for student understanding with a formative assessment that quickly measures their progress in mastering the day’s objective(s).
This Lesson Planning Template is just one method of hundreds that you could use to pre-plan your lesson. If there are parts of this template that do not suit your teaching needs, you can repurpose it to suit your teaching methods. If you find there’s a gap in your preparation for this lesson, substitute an unused box for that missing element. You might want a re-teaching space, or a box for extension ideas if you have students who habitually finish their work early. You might want to create a whole separate table for matching activities to lessons and standards! In the end, the most important part of this exercise is to have a template that works for you.
    Questions to consider:
What are the strengths of the Lesson Planning Template, from my perspective?
What parts of the model support the most success for my students?

I like the way how to transform a standard into an "I CAN STATEMENT", easy to understand by a student.

Well. I liked it because it is very clear and easy it remembers me that in the way as I prepare the class it will be in the classroom. Do you think that we could prepare different strategies for a goal?. Here in Vene zuela we use to have 90 minutes for a class.

Thank you, Jesus. Many of our schools here also have 90 minute classes. Mixing up strategies is crucial to keeping student engagement high over longer learning periods. We love to use active learning and collaborative groups to maximize student achievement. There are always different ways to approach a learning goal, so feel free to try several strategies to see what works best for you and your students!
