Very interesting orchestration choice. I wonder if the reason for that is that their lower register melts into the background very well against the intense dialogue in the scene. If you listen closely, you can hear the Viola part doubled with marimba throughout the cue to give the sound a harder attack. Very interesting orchestration choice but perfect the give the sound an extra punch.
@@sfan1It’s a fantastic propulsive orchestration trick he uses a lot. The marimba adds the “pulse,” as you say, and the violas doing double notes really pushes that momentum. He does the same thing in The Asteroid Field. While Han and Chewie troubleshoot the Falcon and violins and xylo do their weird theme and trombones have their ostinato, he’s got violas doubling them in 16th notes. Great scurrying texture.
Love those measure switches towards the end. Exciting combination. Makes it so much cooler.
