I had no idea my 12 yr old Morkie was dying right in front of me. He was slowing down but figured his age was catching up with him. I noticed he was getting thin and wasn't eating or drinking. I took him to the vets 3 times in 10 days. He ha😢d blood tests and xrays, but nothing that pointed to why he was so sick. On the 3rd visit I saw a different vet. I told her he was having trouble swallowing and was breathing with difficulty. She felt his lymph nodes, and said they were huge. He had lymphoma. My heart broke that day. She said maybe 2 weeks to live. I could not watch him die so I put him down. That was 4 months ago and I will grieve until I take my last breath.

I know how you feel I have lost many but you did the right thing. It's the last gift of love we can do to end their pain and suffering. I'm going thru it with my 15/16 year old and then I also have a 14 year old that I adopted 2 weeks ago as his owner died and he was put in the shelter and I love the seniors. To me it helps to get another. They don't take their place but fill the void and give you much love and hapiness.

My baby girl Nema just had some lumps appear in her glands area around her throat couple weeks ago. Then 2 nights ago she started coughing while eating and I went over to her to look at her throat. Sure enough those lumps have tripled in size and almost wrap around her whole neck and throat. I know she's leaving us so I've just been spending all the time I can with her before I take her in for her appt on Monday. I will be requesting to put her to sleep and that's killing me. I've had several pets die in my arms since I became an adult but none I asked to be euthanized.

Just experienced this with my beloved 14 year old dog who passed away at home. The odd thing though is she only exhibited these symptoms 4 days before her death, the last 2 being the worst until she passed. Her vitals were even good according to two vets. Two weeks prior she was totally normal, walking full of energy except she had chills, which I assumed was caused by her older age and colder weather. We considered euthanasia in the midst of her deterioration but something in my heart told me to keep her with us a little longer before we scheduled an appointment. I spoke to my dog while holding her close, reassured her it was okay to let go and she did one day before we considered having her euthanized. I'm glad she died at home and let go. I've never experienced anything so difficult in my life.

Just lost my 15 year old GS an hour back. Woke up this morning, ate and seemed normal but developed a swollen tummy and passed away. Not sure exactly what transpired as his jaw was clenched after I found him.. looking stiff and not interested..weird enough he got up 5 minutes before to move to that spot(camera recording show)

@@van_creative Thank you for those kind words. I'm glad my boy got to see 15 years, there reaches a point where you know anyday could be the day but the scariest part is how it all transpired. He never showed signs of sickness, still able to walk etc. Just found him unable to move and realised his stomach had swollen. Then he moved a bit but had this clenched jaw, unable to eat or drink. And that was pretty much it..I guess i could have rushed him to the vet, but he was old and moving him would have been uncomfortable in that state. Definitely too old to operate on but he lived a full life so I'm happy

I just put my little girl, Sandy who was an Aspin, to sleep recently who I can only guess was maybe 14 to 16 years old since she was a rescue dog and no one knew for sure how old she was. I ignored her heavy breathing for too long the night before. Her cough of 2 years, turned into changing her diet so she lived the last 6 months instead of just one or two. I could kick myself for believing she would get better that night and not realizing she was suffering. I took her to the emergency room last Sunday morning and got the hard truth. She was put on oxygen and an IV until a couple more family members could get there to say goodbye. I don't know if she knew I was in the room as there didn't seem too much recognition and I can only imagine she was in too much pain but I hope she knows I was there and those flood of tears on her snout were mine as I said my final goodbye.
You were abandoned 3 times, Sandy, and while I almost did the same I'm am so happy and blessed I did not and kept you til the end. While I took care of my parents, moving into their house and losing my job during Covid, at least I got to spend more time with you daily I otherwise would have never had. I only grew closer to you and after the diagnosis was determined to appreciate every day and thank God for such a wonderful gift. I will sorely miss that daily comfort of seeing you sleeping peacefully in the mornings, following me all around the house and in my recent job where I deal with difficult people, I will greatly miss the feeling of any problems I have just melt away when you greeted me at the door at the end of the day.
The emptiness in the house and all your favorite spots is felt deeply every second I keep expecting you to round the corner. You are missed, you are loved, you were appreciated and you gave me a comfort that I cannot do enough to repay. Hopefully we all get that chance in another life.

My X Maltese Westie who was 17, showed the majority of these symptoms 4days before he died.
In his own way he was telling me his time was up, so I did the humane thing and took him to the vet who checked him over, nodded their head. He went very peacefully in my arms making eye contact with me to his last breath, it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, but at the same time I knew it was the right thing to do, to watch him suffer those 3 days, he deserved a peaceful end. My first dog was diagnosed with cancer, and suddenly, he became deaf and blind. He screamed and cried in pain, leaving me with no choice but to put him down. Witnessing the doctor euthanize him was the most heart-wrenching experience for my mother and me. I feel incredibly guilty, but it was the only way to alleviate his suffering. I entrusted the Vet with his cremation. When we returned home, we experienced something mysterious: it felt as though his "soul" followed us and gave one final, mournful bark. I believe he wanted to say goodbye to us. Now my other dog is in his final years, he is 15 years and he may leave us at any time. I hope he can go peacefully. Honestly, I don’t know if I can bear to put him down :(

My thoughts and sympathy to all you lovely dog owners on the loss of your pets. I know the pain as my goldie died nearly 2 years ago and still miss him terribly. He did display some of the symptoms given ie lack of appetite, no real interest in walkies and incontinence but the biggest change was his increased dependency on me and seperation anxiety. In the last 6 months of his life I slept on the Sofa to be near him at night as he couldnt manage to climb stairs, otherwise I would have had him in/on my bed.
RIP Josh, a beautiful and gentle best friend.

In the last year or so our 15 year old dog (smaller German Shepherd cross) has come near the end displaying almost all of these signs, and we think we will lose her. This has happened quite a few times. But then she will bounce back, get perky, happy, start eating and drinking well again, and amaze us all. It does get worse each time, but even this morning she was all playful, affectionate, did most of our morning walk with me, and gobbled up her breakfast, etc. She stumbles a bit, falls at times, but we are not sure how many times she will do this. This makes it very, very difficult to know what to do. She has always been puppy like in the mornings, and turns "old dog" in the evenings. Now, at 15+, she is an old dog. She was happy to see us this morning, happy to go for a walk, sure happy to get her breakfast, etc. She has lost a lot of weight, and her gums and teeth are horrible. She is totally deaf now as well, but still reads what we are doing and saying quite well. We sure would like for her to go peacefully at home.

My 16 yr old dog has slowed down in the last couple months, which is normal for his age, but now for the last 3 days he has been vomiting his food up. Haven't changed his diet and not fed him anything outside what he normally gets. And I've noticed in the last two weeks he is losing weight, but still eating and drinking and going to the bathroom like normal, just not holding his food down. Will be taking him to the vet to get blood work-up, fecal check and urine check. See what's going on. May just need antibiotics.

Vets are costly when Your pets are very sick/injured. I agree it's a hard thing for a longtime beloved Pet.
My Big Baby's on her way out from getting sick. It's hurts, as I face reality. All I can do is just keep her comfortable and give her water & other liquid foods. She refuses meat/dog food and that's okay at this time, *I know it's that **_"time."_* I've had other pets in the past get sick/severely injured/shot by Cops and die. Severe injuries, I have them euthanized by a Vet or My Late-Mother if she was alive. I wish she was here to help Me in any way possible.
My Late-Mother was a Veterinary Doctor for 55+ years, I've seen when Dogs Cats came into her Hospital on the brink of death. My Mother said sometimes there's nothing to be done to save a Pet/farm Animal. If Pet owner is not ready to Euthanize by the Vet Hospital she worked at, she said she'd tell Owners just keep the Animal comfortable as possible, warm, clean & dry. Talk soothing and gentle massaging is good to do as well.

I and my son were at his side, when he passed. I told him to go on, that I would be ok. I will miss him and I love him. He gave out his last call, and he was gone. He is watching over me, I felt a nudge on my knee while watching TV, real weird feeling! I acknowledged him, and I had a sense of peace 🕊️ after. Hooch was his name, and he was rescued off the streets by my daughter. He had a good life, and he taught me a lot. God has a place for every one, including his animals! 😀 Maybe someday I will see him again, anything is possible when it comes to God! My X died on the 13th of March also! Everything just hit me hard, but I am ok. He is no longer in pain. Keeping busy with a new puppy, I mourned for about a week. About a year ago, we thought we would lose her she had a urinary tract infection and after treatment, she was fine again. I think this is it. I would love for her to die at home where i can comfort her during her transition. We work full-time outside of the home. i just can't imagine her being here alone during the day in suffering. It's killing me to watch her in misery. Diarrhea, vomiting, droppy eyes walking like everything hurts, falling down the steps. I am going to move into my den, which is on ground level, so i can be with her, and she doesn't have to take the steps.

Okay I’m so confused I just got a 14 week purebred Rottweiler yesterday from my son for Mother’s Day and the dog breathing is very fast, even when she’s sleeping. she is very hot after just walking around for a few minutes, I have to put a fan on her to keep her cool otherwise her breathing is worse where it shakes the couch when we fell asleep next to each other, she drinks all her water plus my cats water and than has to fall asleep in the cats water dish, she leaves just enough to put her face in the water, she does this if I’m not up moving around, otherwise she follows me around, otherwise she’s following me around the house. She has loads of energy but she literally over heats doing anything, she doesn’t run or do anything strenuous, bc she’s just learning to walk on a leash, my son got her from some Amish ppl who kept her in the barn with her siblings and mom, so my confusion is the right around the 1:00 minute mark they say the constant drinking of water and panting ( breathing) is not good, but she drinks and eats very good and that says she good basically, so what should I do?
