    This is a great comparison between the 335 and 339. The smaller body on the 339 really doesn't seem to give anything away. Impressive.

    • @lordmanshaft1112
      @lordmanshaft1112 3 года назад +2

      As a 339 owner, I think the biggest tonal difference stems from the natural picking location. The 339 is not far off LP dimensions and youll naturally play in a similar spot, compared to the 335 that kind of forces you farther toward the neck. You can get them to sound pretty damn close if you're paying attention to that

    • @TraneFrancks
      @TraneFrancks 3 года назад +1

      @@lordmanshaft1112 Thanks for the input. I suspect I'd be happier with a 339.

    I have a few 335's from various years, but Kudos to Gibson Memphis on this 335 Studio. I finally had a chance to put these through their paces after set up. Despite Gibson's financial woes and quality issues with Les Paul's, these 335's are some of the best Gibson's I have played since 2010.
    Putting looks aside from a a Figured Top I favor the ES 335 Studio. The slightly over wound 57 humbucker in the rear smokes while the front 57 humbucker is one of the thickest & warmest I have ever played. Together they are well balanced. The all maple body with the maple fret board adds plenty of spank that is controllable by rolling back the tone pots. The Ginger Burst is also a welcome addition to the product line. It pops under lighting. All that being said I give these instruments 👍👍👍👍👍

    • @urbanesoul8400
      @urbanesoul8400 8 лет назад

      Yes the 339 is great. The body of the 339 is basically a 335 but scaled down to the size of a Les Paul for players who don't like the size of big semi-hollow guitars. I prefer them myself; they're great for guys who've always used solid body electrics rather than the big 335-style guitars :-)

    Thanks for this video! Just purchased 2016 ES 339 studio with '57 Classics online, and wanted to hear the difference between the Burstbuckers and these pups. I really like the '57 Classics as I tend to go for that Seymour Duncan Seth Lover type of throaty solid mid-range tone. But hearing the switch position differences is a great bonus!! I picked this guitar for the pups besides the compact size, and I'm really happy with my choice now. Thanks again!!

    the studio sounds much clearer and smoother and I like the extra output. usually the hotter pickups will be a bit muddy but in this case they keep the clarity despite the extra windings. I think the maple neck and the baked maple board balance out the extra windings if the 57 and super 57. for the price I would go with the 335 studio.

    • @Spartanm333
      @Spartanm333 4 года назад +1

      '57 classics are well proven and aim to give (as the name suggests) the early Gibson PAF tone. The bridge is slightly hotter so you can set up for rhythm on the neck and go straight into lead with a flick of the toggle switch. BB 1&2 are a more stock pickup and nothing particularly special. You can replace with PRS 57/08s and it will lift this guitar immediately.

    Why is there such a big price variation between some recent models of Gibson ES-335 and others -- some of them relatively cheap, for a hollow Gibson (e.g "GIBSON MEMPHIS 2018 ES-335 DOT IN BLUES BURST" for £1,999) and some over £4,000 (e.g. "GIBSON MEMPHIS 2018 ES-335 61 IN HISTORIC BURST")? Neither is a well-preserved 50s or 60s guitar, they're both modern remakes and not Studio models. And why are 339s so cheap -- you'd expect them to be in the mid-£3K bracket at least, not the lower £2K.
