BANG or BING? That's one of the most complex, almost unsolvable mysteries of both humanity and woomanity. Did you know I've written my own little Splatoon inspired album in anticipation of Splatoon 3 this summer? Check it out here! * RUclips: ruclips.net/video/qWQjQJKWamY/видео.html * bandcamp: disomikron.bandcamp.com/album/splash * Spotify: open.spotify.com/album/2OlrhLFcdzSyRcOdneRkzo
The song only really plays in levels with "artillery" based weapons. Stuff like blasters, 52 Gal, 96, and the Crab Tank. It's supposed to kind of give off a militant march feel I feel like. It even has that drill sergeant call and response thing going for it. It's a really cool song that gives me images of Inklings or Octolings marching with army helmets on.
This will forever be the theme of crab tank to me. The mechanical whirring and marching drum beat give it this a militaristic feel, fitting for a literal tank.
i first heard this song during the crab tank level, so naturally i thought it was the crab tank theme. i thought they were just saying "crab tank" over and over 😭
The first time when I really noticed how good this song is, was when I played though level 0409, the one with all the octo-zeppelins and the squiffer (my beloved) as a weapon option. All the zeppelins and torpedos flying around with their very mechanic feel and the cyan and purple ink colors paired with the beautiful orange and blue skybox.. that level is great. And the music accompanies it perfectly with it's also very mechanic feel wich I'm guessing comes from the long synth notes and the deep, monotone and direct voice. I also feel like that drum solo really adds to the whole thing. It's a nice and concentrated stop to the second voice and prevents it from sounding weird as showcased. I don't really know any musical terms to porperly describe my thoughts about this but I'm happy to learn so this video was definetly great :D
It definitely has a parody military sound to it which makes sense since as someone said, it's usually played on artillery levels... like the Crab Tank level... which has a tank go up a "giant robot". Reminds me of another game series I like that also has a lot of parody elements, has a tank that can do rapid fire and shoot torpedoes, and you also goes up against giant machines, Metal Slug. Not sure if it was on purpose or not.
You see tons of people analyzing video game tunes, but I never saw anyone do that with Splatoon music, so I just thought... why not give it a try. You can learn a lot from these creative tunes!
My iPhone 13 as well. I had a Samsung Note that had some real good stereo sound, but I think the iPhone 13 managed to blow it out of the water (I swear that's not a pun lol), I dunno how it does that without headphones but I was impressed when I first heard it and I'm still impressed by this lil phone now.
🗿 This song is so silly, but it still gives me the chills every time… a lot of the Alterna Mission songs are like that for me. I can’t choose a favorite one, but this, Mission 1, (the one that samples and/or references Tentacular Circus, I think?) and Mission 7 are up there. I could list all of the ones that are “up there,” but that would just be all of them lol. 🗿 bang bang bing 🗿
the difference between the bang bing sounds and higher-note vocals is so funny to me, the singing souds rather serious and magestic in a way, while bang bing just silly and playful
@@ChristophJakob The grindset of doing what you feel is funny and not caring is a big thing I enjoy, it just makes things more "you," cringe and all, and that's what makes it based.
It might just be me but I can't help but hear a mix of "wild west" and a "bringing out the heavy artillery" vibe. And it gives a feeling of determination for me too.
Glad I can finally understand the nuisance to this musical masterpiece. Lol. But honestly being able to understand Splatoon music beyond just “haha funny sounds are nice to listen to” is really cool. Thanks for these videos mate!
Would love to see you analyze other hero mode tracks! Particularly the Alterna overworld themes! My favs are Eco-Forest Treehills and Happiness Research Lab :] Something about them is just really beautiful
I have binged all your reaction videos and demand more NOW Seriously enjoying the content & hope you keep making these, you explain things in such a fun way :D
When I hear this song, I imagine a large fly boat with moai heads all over it going "bang bang bing bang". And there is a mermaid figure whatever at the front of the boat with a maoi head on it singing the robotic chorus. I don't do drugs, this is just normal thinking for me.
Your videos are super well made and very informative for me as an aspiring composer. You make me want to try playing around with the Dorian scale and key changes. I'm currently binging (and banging) through all of them btw, keep up the great work!
Yeah, that was something they only put on the original soundtrack. I'm personally not a fan of the addition of a snare drum, felt very out of place to me when I first heard it.
The second half of the song is definitely my favorite. I love how they have all of these different rhythms going on but the quarter note bass rhythm is still very noticeable and the difference between the steadiness of the bass and the more complexity of the other parts is really satisfying. My favorite bit of the song is when that low string voice comes in towards the end like you played at 5:00. It really adds to that mechanic and military feeling.
For some reason this one always gave me Thomas the Tank Engine vibes and I wasn't ever really able to place why. Maybe it's the marching beat? Well regardless, awesome analysis!
It's been roughly 1.5 years, my lighting was bad, my thumbnails were weird. Rewatching this I'm noticing how much I've gotten better even though I didn't change the core structure at all.
As far i have seen in your videos i like how you explain how the tunes/parts of the music are even if i dont understand a bit of them Would be cool if you go for other games in the future, as a suggestion i think you should check deBlob and deBlob 2 Soundtrack Keep the great work Jakob!
The banging and binging makes it so memeworthy, but the rest of the song itself has this militaristic techno-like feel to it that really fits with the octarian fighters and even some of the levels themselves. Also, god those bang bing jokes XDDDDD
idk if im alone in this here cuz nobody else that ive seen has pointed it out, but i really hear calimari inkantation in this. just try singing it to this song and i feel like it sort of works. not sure if i'm reaching or if the composers actually meant that lmao.

I can't unhear this without imagining the Easter island heads banging and binging to it
Bang Bang 🗿

Rhythm heaven ds moment
This song always makes me imagine a huge valley with all these mechs stomping around. Which I guess is extremely fitting for the level it’s in.
Yeah, it's really fitting! And I assume the bangs and bings are in there to avoid the music being too serious haha. Super creative as always.
You've made want to play a game of Mechwarrior with this playing in the background, just to experience how that would actually be

(Wait... Wrong game)
I knew he was gonna say “binger” and I dunno why it made me laugh more than I should’ve. 🤣
Please make more. Understanding the splatoon soundtrack is my top priority right now.
This has been my 5th video like this, but I'll for sure make some more. Glad you like my approach!
Agreed!
I would really like to see the calamari inkantation 3mix
@@ChristophJakob the boss themes from 1 and 2 could make for an interesting video imo

No no, he's got a a point
This is not only a banger, but it’s also a banger and a binger.

I totally didn't expect this to become such a meme.
Zip, Splat, and Jump is always the one that stood out to me.
I didn't expect that either. I genuinely enjoyed it when I heard it in-game and also when I made this video. It's great!
I love how *weird* splatoon single player music gets. It's also well written and performed, but the weirdness really brings it home.
The first time when I really noticed how good this song is, was when I played though level 0409, the one with all the octo-zeppelins and the squiffer (my beloved) as a weapon option.

Bruh that alone is making me like the video, let alone the super entertaining rest of the video
4:02 "the melody here sounds amazing though" ...it sounds like Among Us drip
Interesting, but not too surprising, it's just going up and down the "blues scale", which is very common but kinda never gets old haha.
A section of the song sounds like a leitmotif to the among us trap mix lmao

I almost choked with my food!! 😂😂😂
We need a bang, bing, or bong splatfest.
Yes, even though it would be impossible to decide on a team 🗿
This Song was kind of overshadowed by the crazy banger "crater mission" for me but looking back at it yeah it's a bop!

bing bang bing
scratches the itch in my brain
that itch is probably the same one that laughs at among us
Splatoon has always had and will always have the weirdest, goofiest yet hardest soundtrack in gaming history

im going to call epic songs like this bingers from now on
Sounds like a reasonable thing to do, haha!
Would love to see a video talking about "Blitz It!" by Chirpy Chips.
Bang Bing is the best Splatoon 3 campaign song (it also has the funny Amogus theme too, and you can even hear it when he plays it on his guitar)

It's because I wasn't familiar with it 😅 It's basically just part of the blues scale though, you hear that in a lot of tunes!
It might just be me but I can't help but hear a mix of "wild west" and a "bringing out the heavy artillery" vibe. And it gives a feeling of determination for me too.

I can't listen to this song without hearing that one part of the little gift shop of horrors song feed me
I just realized the in-game version has quite different percussions than the official OST. Most notably the whole marching snare line is gone
