Flight of icarus rocks and is a must for any budding rock or metal guitarist to learn. When you get to soloing, the solos are also quite straightforward. Learn this one and you have a party stopper in your arsenal.
While this video may not directed at me as a non-musician, I have to say that your passion and your love for this music is clear to see. Keep up the good work!!
That's great to hear! I always try to make the tutorial videos interesting and accessible to non-musicians as well. I think some of this knowledge can enhance anyone's listening experience in the long run 🙂
Glad you liked it! I will definitely do something for infinite dreams although that might be more for advanced players. Maybe I'll cover the parts in an analysis/breakdown video
Awesome video and great idea for a series! I think that Wasting Love would be a great song for this series because it isn’t too hard and it can help teach arpeggiated picking. I think that the solo isn’t too hard either. Days of Future Past and Wrathchild might also be good ones for this series.
What a godsend you are! I recently picked up the guitar myself, and I’ve been trying songs like Living After Midnight or the rhythm part to Doctor Doctor to get the hang of things, but Maiden songs have been hard to approach (especially since reading that the Trooper is their easiest song; the main riff makes my fingers feel like soggy sausages). This lesson was very easy to understand and I’m having loads of fun - I’m really excited for the rest of this series!
本当にありがとう! I really appreciate the kind words very much!! Living after midnight is a great one to start with... It's very similar to Icarus in that it's simple enough technically but it really teaches you a lot about rhythm and groove, little quick palm muting, muted strums and things like that. Good choice! And The Trooper is NOT Maiden's easiest song by a long shot! I actually haven't seen that many people really play it correctly... There are lots of little subtleties in some of these songs 🙂 Good luck with this one and stay tuned for more!
Greetings, Nico. Another great idea and song to start beginners. Steve Harris himself recommends this song and running free as a good staring point if you want to learn the Iron Maiden catalog. Keep doing what you are doing!
One of the best song by Maiden. Short but catchy with a great solo (Smith), lyrics and wonderful singing. Additionally in different key than Em xD. Adrian can write such songs to this day.
Thank you Nico!! My son and I are so excited to learn this song. Thank you for mentioning us! This was such an awesome lesson, thank you for doing the whole song and not just only some riffs, so appreciated. God bless you.
Oh I'm so glad you liked, man!! Thank you for the encouragement and for the idea... I hope you guys have a lot of fun with it and I'll keep doing more every few weeks! Cheers 🤜🤛
I am a huge Iron Maiden fan...just LOVE Bruce, but I am very aware of ALL of the other band members'amazing talents. I generally like to hear what professional vocal coaches point out and their various comments. I know NOTHING about playing a guitar. I came across you somewhat by accident (Iron Maiden is what caught my interest) but I absolutely love how you really break things down and explain the significance of certain notes or how they may be often played incorrectly, etc. So I can't play at all, but you hooked me with the way you explain everything without just rushing through it. Very interesting!

Great idea Nico! it is always awesome when you explain with music theory. Looking forward for more videos like this. Don’t forget Heaven can wait cover solos videos, please. Best from Brazil 🇧🇷
Great stuff! Very cool to see how the rythm guitars are played, that shows how important the bassline Mr Harris plays is for this song. It gives it that extra lift from a cool rock song to, well, a killer Maiden song😎💪 Oh, and the drums are also perfect😊

Great idea for a serie and great video as always! Watching it brings me back in 2010, I was 15 and I was starting playing guitar selftaught... Running Free was the first Iron Maiden song I learned, because we wanted to play it in our band. I remeber all the afternoons spent with the other guitar player, a dear friend of mine, learning how to play in time togheter the damn harmonized lead break in triplets. With this kind of tutorial it would have been much easier! Thank you!
I remember going trough that exact same phase way back in the day! Running Free is going to be one of the tutorials for sure because there is so much to be learned from that song 😃 Glad you enjoyed this! 🤜🤛
Another top for the gallop in the intro: Play only the low E and A stings on the second beat of the three palm-muted strums, and add the D string on the fourth beat of the palm-muted strums. I recommend lifting the pinkie finger from the D string in the power chord (the E# power chord), using the pinkie to block the D string when not used, and pressing on the string down on the second an fourth beats when that note comes in. It can take some practice to get the feel right. Tight playing is super important. This rhythm seems simple, but is very hard to get just right.

@@LicksOfTheBeast Wow! What an honour to get a reply from one of my guitar heroes! Nicko. I struggle a lot, as I try to change the chord patterns when playing guitar. I mean, as I am thinking which frets to press next, the note has already changed! Would you kindly give us some tips on how to change the fingers quickly, as we need to move on to the next chord (finger pattern)? How do we move quick from C Minor to an E Sharp or whatever...? Is it something to do with "finger memory"? Do we attain that simply by practicing? Could you give us some insight on that, please? I am so honoured that you replied! I admire you a lot! Greetings from Lisboa, Portugal

Great video, Nico! :-) I will follow this new series with a great interest. Flight of Icarus is one of the best tracks to begin playing Maiden on the guitar (except the solos!!! Dave's solo here is one of my absolute favourites: I can almost hear the hero flying through the melody, please cover it ;-)). I wish you had done this video a few years ago when I tried to perform this title with my 9-year-old pupils at school (without having a parent's petition signed against me by the way!). My playing was far from correct, I've improved a lot since then, but it is still a great memory and a lot of fun. We added a vocal solo and even saxophone! (on a video platform starting with a "v" and ending with a "o" and 277 78 090 4 if you want to have a quick look). Maybe with your tips and a little work, I should consider playing it again with my kids ;-)!
Alors j'ai vu la vidéo... Incroyable!! Surtout qu'il a chantent en anglais en plus... J'imagine que ce n'est pas évident à Dijon! Et le mec avec les lunettes de soleil... trop cool 😎 Bonne décision d'éviter le gri à la fin! 😄 I think your playing was just fine on that by the way! Peut être un tout petit peu trôp rigide mais bon.... On passe tous par là! Et mille mercis pour ton encouragement!!
It's an interesting suggestion. I figured not everyone will want to watch that, so I just included the link to my full cover of the song during the end screen of this video. Maybe I'll add a link at the beginning of the video or something like that in the future!
For my videos, I don't use an actual amp. I do everything with the Bias FX II plugin. It just makes it easier and allows me to work even at night without disturbing anyone 🙂

I don't think I have enough people interested for live lectures but who knows what will happen in the future!
I will start doing more live streams so that will be interactive and fun for sure 😊
Thanks so much for your kind support!!
Cheers 🤘🙏
I think what you do at 4:22 (A6 ?) is not in the tab...is it possible? I hope to have also the slo one day and other tutorial for beginner =)
Maybe Blood Brothers or TWOTW aren't good songs?
Fabulous stuff, this is awesome. You ROCK 🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍☮☮☮
Glad you enjoyed it! There will be more like this in the future 🙂
Cheers 🤜🤛
Thank you very much for your work !!
Nice job, as always. One extremely minor note: I believe only Dave plays that F#m modulation at the start of the second verse.
AWESOME - thank you
Hey Nico. Thanks for this lesson. What amp and pedals are you using for this tone and also the tone for Adrian's solo?
Glad you enjoyed it!
I usually use the same settings for everything. I will tweak a few things depending on the song or whatever but it's usually based on this:

Do we use Palm mute on the first Riff?
Yes on the F# chord
I came here to see you explain the second chord in the pre chorus. Still waiting!
I name the chords and show the sequence at around the 3:35 mark.
The chord you're talking about is just an E/G# (like a G# power chord but with a #5).
I think your playing was just fine on that by the way! Peut être un tout petit peu trôp rigide mais bon.... On passe tous par là!
Et mille mercis pour ton encouragement!!
I wish you would do a full play through at the start. Then breaking it down into these small bits.
It's an interesting suggestion.
I figured not everyone will want to watch that, so I just included the link to my full cover of the song during the end screen of this video. Maybe I'll add a link at the beginning of the video or something like that in the future!
This would be great if you could go through the power chords manually showing.✌️
I made tabs for everything. Link is in the description.
What kind of Amp do you use?
For my videos, I don't use an actual amp. I do everything with the Bias FX II plugin. It just makes it easier and allows me to work even at night without disturbing anyone 🙂
The one dislike is Steve Harris
😂😂
Good video was very short you explain more of rhythm it missing something of that
Toma, vos también llevate un dedito pa abajo por demorar la al principio y hacer publicidades.
