RC-20 I grabbed that one on sale, I try not to use it too often, but it is very well made. For me the saturation algorithms usually sound good and they are quite hassle free to use, also Space is a reverb that I use when I gave up on the more "complicated" reverb plugins, and that also delivers, even if I just one to make the drum room mics wetter. I really recommend waiting for the sale there, it's really a great plugin and saves a lot of time (especially if you have ADHD where too many options would just kill your motivation).
This was a great video! Another plugin that could be good to help replicate the rc-20 that I've found is Cymatics Origin. It's a lofi plugin that can filter, modulate, saturate, and add vinyl sounds to your track. By far one of my most used plugins for lofi.

I've stood by vital since it's first versions, I can't imagine what I'd sound like now if I had it a decade ago. Even if sound design isn't your wheelhouse: just grab vital, it's too damn versatile.
Vital was my first synth, also my first expedition into music making on my computer. I didn't even have a DAW and was just using the app itself instead of using it with a VST. Of course now I have a Mac and Logic Pro, but I'm always on the lookout for free plugins and never cracked any. Some free plugins are freaking MONSTERS

Valhalla Supermassive is a great great great reverb, Deelay by Sixth Sample is a versatile delay. I would have to look at my plugin library more but those are pretty cool ones. If you want synths the only one I’m thinking of is OBXd by Disco-dsp
there are so many fantastic free plugins recently, just to name a few "new" ones (except well-known TDR, Klanghelm, Analog Obsession, Valhalla, Auburn Sounds, Melda, YouLean...) there's Polyverse Wider, Acon Digital Verberate Basic, Bertom Denoiser Classic, Soundly Place it, Goyo Voice Separator - all worth checking out :)

@@NoizeLondon well I use vital over serum for a few reasons, reason 1: 3 Oscillators and 3 filters while serum has 2 of each reason 2: The waveform editor may not be as versatile in vital but ive found I get better results faster on vital due to lack of complexity that serums WT editor comes with. reason 3: The distortion on vital is amazing and no matter how hard I try to recreate the same results using Serums distortion, it just isnt the same. On the other hand serums distortions has a lot more options and distortion types. Reason 4: The rest of the effects also have a bit of a different flavor Reason 5: Also the randomizer functions, the stereo modulation on litterally any parameter and not the mention that Vital has an undo fuction which makes mistakes a lot easier to mitigate and so many more reasons lol
also the one thing I wish Vital did have was the Reverb and Comb filter from serum cuz GD they are good, but I have found that no relying on those filters so often for crazy basses has led to some interesting if not way better results
Torrenting plugins... wow, this brings back the old days when I got started with FL Studio and torrented popular VSTs to understand how music production works. 13 years later, on and off, I don't wanna know how much money I've wasted on legal VSTs - Ableton 10 Suite, Arturia VCollection, Serum, tons of packs, etc. It's an OK thing to do in the beginning because it's pointless to pump in thousands of dollars/euros/pounds if you don't even know if it's a thing for you. But the more you develop and actually continue producing music in years forward, supporting VST devs is something that will only bring lead devs to create more enhanced plugins and, therefore, more opportunities for producers. Yeah the suites are so good these days you don't really need to buy much more - and they're reasonably priced. I guess it's like anything - a lot of people take up sports/activities and never become pro but have a great time doing it!
Vital has been my go-to since I don't have Serum yet. Although when EVERYONE uses Serum it's almost impossible to find the tutorials that I need to get the sound I'm looking for out of vital. Makes it hard to learn as a beginner.

speaking of dropbox, beware of sending your tracks for people to listen to on that platform , the inbuilt player can really mess with mp3s, in one extreme case recently we had a track with a really hot snare dropbox sounded like it was gating it, really weird. Either make sure you get whoever you sent to download the file before listening or use another service.
That Nova plugin is really nice. I stumbled upon it awhile back and I've been using it exclusively pretty much ever since. Fantastic plugin, however Ozone 11 EQ is free and I've been playing around with it and it is pretty amazing too. Ozone tends to be a resource hog and if I use it on multiple tracks (say vocal and guitar) it starts to bog down my PC, however Nova I can add eq to every track and my PC doesn't miss a beat (no pun intended.. or maybe it was.. I don't know haha). Thanks for your review!

Plugin makers charge many times more than game devs charge for games and yet those plugins take far less time and effort to make. The digital music industry is a total sham. I'll continue to pirate.

graillon is bad for vocals in my opinion. the better option is to sidechain with goyo, place it and gsnap, those are all free. if you have money to spend, but cant decide which is a good option, i would advise metatune, nectar 3, izotope vox or izotope trash. antares is good if you cant hit any notes. the other free option is to practice voice by making new songs and just singing. for those who hate their voice i definitely say get used to it and practice, it did well for me, even if i still miss a few notes.
Alas, but your preproduction doesn't quite work. Because each plugin gives its own unique timbre. The timbre that you like more than the others suggested. Otherwise, the ratless analogues would be in great demand.

Fav freebie is Nils K1. I had a K5 as a kid and found a K1 on CL a couple of years ago for $100 so I bought it. The previous owner copied the user patches to internal and I couldn't find a way to factory reset but I found the plugin and was going to use the K1 as a controller anyway. Worked out pretty well. PLUS, NILS adds a METRIC BUTT TON (that's quite a bit) of ROM card patches! :)

Tokyo Dawn Nova is so good i went and bought the GE versions of a few of their plugins.
I can't believe slate digital fresh air is free.

Reaper comes with a ton of free plugins, that may not LOOK that great, but work just as well as the pretty ones
Sometimes the way a plugin is designed help the user interact with it more easily.. don't ya think?

Ableton Live 7... I finally got around to buying a legit version of 11 this year.
Vital and Graillon 2 are the only ones that also run on Free operating systems.
RARE, pultec style eq from Analog Obsession is currently my favorite free plugin, easy to use, and quick results that sound very good.

Fav freebie is Nils K1. I had a K5 as a kid and found a K1 on CL a couple of years ago for $100 so I bought it. The previous owner copied the user patches to internal and I couldn't find a way to factory reset but I found the plugin and was going to use the K1 as a controller anyway. Worked out pretty well. PLUS, NILS adds a METRIC BUTT TON (that's quite a bit) of ROM card patches! :)

But here, we’re talking about recreating old school FXs, in a saturated market of not so creative effects.
And, respectfully, the way you formulated your answer kinda makes you look a bit entitled.
I, for one, own more than 15 000€ worth of plugin licenses. And I can vouch for the fact that, once in a while, free plugins are a great option.
Last but not least, free plugins are usually developed by the same brands that sell great innovative plugins. They just make some options free as a way to get you on their website.
So your argument is not that valid.
And, quite frankly, that « broke cry baby » part was unnecessary at best.
