I enjoy your muscadine videos so, sooo much! Been watching for years and can’t thank you enough for all the information you share! Working on getting our orchard, berries and grape vines started this year on our new homestead in Lexington, Ga. Will be shopping Ison’s for our muscadines. Continued Blessings to you, Kim and all the gang!!! ❤❤❤
Blue X tube tip - Put your zip tie on backwards and it'll be removable, then you can slide it up and keep it clean. Over the weekend we were able to get 2 runners potted up to root this season.
Shane have you ever looked into Munson Grapes? Here in Texas I'm worried I might loose my muscadine in the winter. I found a story about Mr Munson and everything he did in the 1880'S~1900's on grapes. Great reading. I might try two of the Mrs Munson grape vines on the other side of my garden. Keep posting. Love the videos.
Muscadines should be fine as long as winters don't hold below freezing for long periods of time. Days I'm talking. If you are worried you can pile up dirt about 12 inches around the trunk to help protect them from frost damage
Shane I have one out of the three new plants that only have growth inside the blue tube down near the base of the plant near the ground. Their isn’t any other growth on the vine. It wasn’t a healthy looking plant when I received it. I guess my only choice at this time is to ride it out and see what happens.
For now ride it out for sure. If ot where me control the competition of other weeds and grass and water and fertilize like recommended and they should take off. LONG SUMMER and they grow really fast. Now I've had some sucky plants that I've pulled after 2 yrs that just didn't want to grow but keep an eye on them and be patient
I'd leave them both to see which grows the best then take off the weaker one. It's too bad you have to lose a few here and there. I can't wait for opening day video of the public picking day. Hi Kim 😊 luv you guys ❤
I am in North Alabama. I planted 4 last year. They all seemed to do well. Only one has sprouted leaves so for. We had a short pretty severe cold phase and I wonder if that is what did it.
Never had that happen but something definitely going on. Make sure you don't over fertilize and keep it off the trunk on the plant. Hope they get back to growing
Thanks for the video. I planted my 1st 7 this spring. I'm curious to know if you have a favorite muscadine for flavor and a favorite plant to grow as far health & production. My 7 plants came from isons. Thanks for all your videos.
My all time favorite is the Ison variety. It grows super fast and has loads of fruit and tastes amazing Great for our wine and jelly to. Supreme is my second favorite. Just an awesome huge grape
Around what night temperatures would you say you need before the muscadines wake up for the year? I got a Paulk that was dormant from Ison's and a Dixie Red that had already woke up a little. The Dixie Red is growing a little already, but the Paulk--and my Hunt and Manzano from TSC--are still asleep. Not worried about them, they have buds, just curious.
@@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia I'm in NE Ohio, zone 6A--so way behind you guys lol. It's funny because I noticed the Manzano buds broke today. It's the only muscadine of the four rated hearty enough for this zone. There are two varieties called "Katuah" and "Katuah Scuppernog" that were bred by Jewel of the Blue Ridge to be cold hearty up to zone 5 as well apparently. Going to try those if these all fail--even with the greenhouse.
On new plants (just planted first year), how long should the blue tubes be legt on the vines? I have noticed I have a of growth in the blue tuge itself. I want water and nutrients going to the main vine I have chosen.
Great video. I got a really late start last year. My second year scuppernongs are finally to the end of the wire. I planted 2 bare root Isons and 2 Ruby Crisps in March. All but one are doing well. I'm leaving the pollen sacs on the Isons to see if I can get a few grapes off of the scuppernongs. Is that a bad plan?
I use a product called Killzall. Find on Amazon. It want hurt the plant spraying on trunk. Just try not to get alot on it. But will definitely kill anything green
Hi, I like your videos and thank you for sharing your experience. I have a question, when do you start spraying, how often do you spray and what product do you use?
For weeds I start when my leaves start coming out and I use Killzall. You can find on Amazon. For bugs I use liquid seven when I start see pests eating my leaves
Just found you. I started growing, my own, this year. Appreciate your knowledge. My neighbor had a vine in their yard, I got it out of the trees and partially trained it on a trellis. Question Are there males and females?. I've sourced some vines from the woods around my house and I noticed some have berries, some don't. And if so, do I need both?
Yes there are and male generally don't produce. There's also self fertle that produce the best. I usually don't recommend wild plants they just dont produce as well. Check out Isons nursery online
Do you ever try to root any of the vine tendrils that you break off or do you just consider the idea of getting a vine to root in a pot while on the vine?
I found a muscadine vine in my backyard growing on the ground. I would like to put a trellis up and trim it according to your directions (10 ft on either side). Will the muscadine‘s be good enough to eat, or is this just a waste of time?
You could possibly have some grapes but most wild grapes are are male and don't produce alot. Could be a fun experiment. Water and fertilize prune in February ya never know
Is summer pruning recommended if no mowing will happen under the vine area? I know you do it for mowing purposes, but I'm trying to figure out if helps muscadine production somehow. Also, I've got some of those side growth tendrils grabbing around my small main vine. Should I unwrap them?
Do you sell your vines by chance? I’m looking for a bronze and can’t find any in Washington. New to your videos, but we started 2 grape vines this year and looking to add a muscadine. Keep ‘em coming thanks!
Do you ever have problems with fire ants? If yes, what do you use? My first two muscadine plants arrive on Monday and my area has developed fire ants. PS. Thank you so much for your detailed how-to instructions for the trellis and posts. We followed your video and got the posts in and tomorrow we are putting in the wire thanks to your video with your pup.

Thanks so much. Love Lexington. I ran a route up there all around Athens for 4 yrs. We will be open this September hope to see you guys.

Awesome tip. I'm definitely doing that. I hate all that junk growing inside that I can't control lol
Good Day Shane, your Muskies are looking wonderful 👍😊.
JO JO IN VT 💞
U do a dang good job explaining stuff. I've been watching for a good while now. Enjoyed them alot.
Thanks so much really appreciate that
Great video. Answered my question as soon as I asked it. More, more, more.
Glad we had a chance to talk over the weekend @ Mid Ga Grain. I appreciate the info you shared with me.
Great videos btw.💕
Thanks so much and that was a blast
Good morning enjoyed this morning
Thanks so much for all of the good info
I've been using a roll of flagging tape to train my Vines. It rips pretty easy so I figured the vines would just tear it once they get too big

@@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia I commented on another video about growing your own. So many videos I sometimes forget what I post 😁
I grew some from seeds it’s year 3 and growing strong
Plse keep.me posted on how they do this year. I've always heard they don't produce as well. I would love to see how they do

Could be it hit us hard in central Georgia to. I lost a bunch and had lots of damage
Love the channel 👍. I fertilized my new isons and the leaves drooped and withered. I’m thinking I over watered. Have you ever experienced this?

Nope. That why you planted them
Get them grapes! I just want mine to bulk up this year

Thank you very much! I already started on my trellis system and some plants ordered from Isons! Planing to put in a lot more 2025 planting season.

Killzall for weeds and 9 gauge wire

No I've never done that. But I have a neighbor that roots them on the vine so I thought I would give it go
What do you put out for ants around new plants?
Just what ever cheapest ant killer I can find. Doesn't hurt your plants.
Thank you
Is the Ison muskadime a good choice
Definitely my favorite

You don't have to prune in the summer and the tendrils around the mai vine you can cut them off or untangle for sure. They can choke out the plant

No I don't but I buy all my stuff from Isons Nursery. Check them out online. The Darlene is an absolute awesome grape and the Carlos

Awesome. For fire ants I just buy some fire ant killer. We are not an organic grower and it doesn't bother your plants.
Should be another round of puppies before long if she is able
I'm always shocked at how beautiful your rows are, until I watch you work on them... hard work pays off 💪❤️
My favorite place to be on the farm
Disaster in my vineyard. Either weed spray or Kate frost killed 13 out of 16
Oh no! I hate that
Flip a coin :)
