Love the statement that it isn't blind faith. You hear it, you practice it, you experience the truth, there's no suspension of disbelief. I found Buddhism long before I knew much about Buddhism because it's truly natural.
I hope this message will reach the Buddhist leader and teacher in this video. I have been struggling during these years of the COVID Pandemic. I know that I must be silent, but watchful, for a flash of the possibility of Enlightenment to come to me. But I would like to hear more from the Buddhist community about more exercises like these. Something you might find helpful is to stop trying, stop watching out for a moment of enlightenment. Enlightenment will come naturally as you experience reality through the buddhist lens, and watching and waiting for enlightenment to act as a sort of savior for you will only deepen your suffering and push you further from becoming enlightened. This practice can be learned if you decide to take the path as she is. You approach the teacher that suit you. This is not a merely physical exercise at all. You learn the meaning and recite the liturgy in addition to the prostration so than the effect will transform your mind and your life
practicing Hindu Pranayam (Breathing exercise) will cure your diseases and increase immune system, Meditation is good for mind but Pranayam increase lung power which is important in covid. Running is also good but not everyone can run. And pranayam also have other benifits like increased stillness of mind.

Buddhists don’t pray or have faith, not core or original buddhists. This is something made up afterwards that doesn’t base itself on Buddha’s teaching. It’s a shame to make people think this is from Buddha. Praying does nothing, there’s no god in Buddhism. Nobody is listening. And faith, faith when not used instead of trust or hope is always bild. It is to believe withoit proof. Something not mundane should never be connected with faith, Buddhism does not teach you to believe without proof and once tested it’s no longer faith. All of this is objectively wrong. Buddhists pray all the time, there are examples of prayer all over the Pali Canon. Sometimes even the gods pray to the Buddha. There are gods in Buddhism. There are so many that they're actually ranked by their godliness. The Buddha mentioned recollection of the merits of the gods as a suitable focus for meditation. Faith is mentioned in many suttas as well. The Buddha describes faith as one of the first steps on the path. You have absorbed wrong information about Buddhism from sources that either weren't Buddhist, or weren't familiar with the Buddhist canon.
This is how you pray get the only book that was inspired by the holy spirit. It's called the bible and read psalms 23 . And then read the bible only because it will save you from God's wrath if you live by the word of God only.

Also by judging and damning others to Hell before they have time to repent in and of itself is a sin. Buddhism has claimed no lives during war while in the 3 Crusades corrupt Pope's had millions of men killed so Christianity could rule over the Holy Lands. Buddhism embraces suffering to find Peace in suffering and to give love to all people and while Buddhist Monks have shown much respect to Christians I see you have shown very little back in return. Stoics have a quote for this kind of situation. If God is just he will judge you by your virtues and character not by how devout you are, if God is unjust you should not worship him, if their is no God then find peace in your final moments as you lived a just life. May you find peace in this life and may the God you worship shine brightly upon you, giving you peace and prosperity as you live this life and may he grant you eternal life in the Holy Gates when you pass. WWe pray as a way of showing respect, we bow down five times-Buddha & his wisdom, the monks for their guidance, the wisdom of Buddhism, teachers show us the way & parents for giving us life. Also we do prayers to wish every living beings in this universe wealth, health, happiness & peace.

You don't have to be *labelled* as a Buddhist. As long as you are a sentient being and follow the teachings of the Buddha, you're in the path. As she said in the video, its not about faith, practice the teachings and experience the bliss and see for yourself what and where they will take you. May you be liberated from this Samsara.

No, what she does here doesn't refer to Vajrayana buddhism, but to Mahayana buddhism. However, if you listen carefully you'll notice that she close her prayer by the traditional wishes for every beings.

Nothing can start from nothing, it must be started from something, that is a law of nature. There is a beginning of everything that began with something else but most Christians believe that God has always been around which can’t be proved. Just because you believe “all of the protests” does not mean that they are all actually real prophets. It is not something that earns Islam points. I can just the same tell you that we as Christians believe that Jesus=son of Allah=Allah in human form and you won’t have an objective reason to refute this belief. The same way you cannot refute Buddhism. Also it’s not true to you believe “all the prophets”. Hello! I am new to Buddhism and have a question reguarding prayer. Who is the prayer to? To my very limited understanding there is no god in Buddhism, and the Buddha is not to be worshiped as a god.
Yes, this is a good question. I am meditator but cannot say I am a Buddhist and so far I haven’t heard an explanation from any Buddhist which makes sense. If the Buddha does not exist now in any form and if no one says that he can in any way receive the “respects”, bowing, prostrations, or the flowers at his altar/statue then for whom is this “respect” paid? Clearly it is not directed at the person doing this and if it’s directed at the Buddha statue if he can’t hear it then it makes no sense.
Does praying for someones health for eg. lets say someone is sick. Does it actually change/influence their health when i have such aspirations or it is only for me to become hopeful about their situation and encourage them or for me to quell my anxieties about them? Is it a mind trick?
A prayer can not make things happen, but it may change the way you understand the situation. If prayers were answered the world would be a different place without war, rape and torture. All we can do is prayer for ourselves and our own path. If you try to change the world with prayers you will be dissapointed.
It isn't a mind "trick" so much as a "training." The mind is very powerful, but tends to be enveloped by a lot of impurities, which renders us less competent when facing challenges. Such a struggle is generally understood to be a result of "karmic obscurations." Everyone suffers from this, but to different degrees due to our respective circumstances. When we intend to alter the course of our thoughts to something wholesome, such as wishing goodwill upon others, this results in purification, which results in clarification. We may develop an ability to heal others by virtue of understanding how to do so, but our own healing, as accomplished through developing a virtuous mode of thought, speech, and action, is what ultimately allows benefit to be reflected toward all beings.
The fact is she is a Buddhist . Therefore, I respect her beliefs. I am a Buddhist too ! Difference is, when I address I address Lama, chho, dharma than all Gurus, including Hindu Gurus , buddha, Jesus and Allah I believe sort of a World Religion, and to respect all religion is to respect humanity. The New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) you promote here has harmed a lot of people (including me and my friends). Ex-Members of the group (known as ”New Kadampa Survivors”) describe it as a personality cult around a single autocrat, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. As journalists, would you promote Scientology groups? I think you should be similar cautious in promoting the NKT. Any simple investigation into the background of the group should make you doubt your decision to promote them. For us survivors this naive promotion is a like slap in our face. PLEASE do some research and please abandon this nativity that everything which comes under the label Buddhism is good or harmless. I noticed she said "may everyone be free from misery" but one of the four truths is accepting suffering and misery and knowing that it is a part of life, what she should be praying for is more for the ones suffering to let go of the pain and the need and want and bring happiness and harmony even in a time of hurt.
Part of accepting suffering and misery is becoming free from the misery that is caused by our own minds in response to physical afflictions. You have a misunderstanding of what these teachings are about I'm afraid.
I would be careful about telling a renunciant what they "should" be praying for. She wouldn't be ordained if she didn't know the Four Noble Truths. Also, perhaps look up the Metta Sutta for an example of such a prayer given by the Buddha himself.
I have learned a while ago that buddhism (depending on the school) does not hold meaning to a word because holding meaning to word is to hold on to the material world. If you instead can write down the essence of the word and still understand it even in another language, yu are basically doing the same as this praying. Btw i believe the praying she does here seems to belong more to the Mahayana school, which is basically the teachings of the Tathagata with many believes and legends twisted together and thus it is possible it is even older than the actual buddhist himself. Only studying the life of the buddha himself is Theravada buddhism which is usually more of a phylosophy.
Words, like all dharmas, have no inherent dharma. A word's meaning is fluid and changeable. For example, "I love you" can mean many diffrrent things depending on context and intention.

Hello Everyone- I am sure she had well-intention but this nun is mistaken. The merit earned is not a direct cause for enlightenment in Vajrayana Buddhism. Merit causes one good karma but merit should be quickly dedicated to all other sentient beings or else it may spoil or one could even have too much good karma and be trapped in their next incarnation as an unenlightened god and inevitably eventually exhaust all their good karma back to square one as a hell-being. In other words you can have all the merit in the world and still be hopelessly unenlightened and trapped in the cycle of samsara. Enlightenment can occur gradually or instantly but only after all ignorance is totally extinguished from having absolute unrestricted awareness. Once this fully happens it is supposedly impossible to ever truly degrade back to an unenlightened being. Only when enlightened do we become truly free from constraints of samsara.... and some enlightened beings choose to free all others before themselves and stay in samsara like a bodhisattva buddha or lotus in the mud. This is just what some Vajrayana Buddhist Tibetans told me anyway.

Yea, I don’t have anything against if people want to do this paying of homage and respect to Buddha. But since Buddha does not exist now it is still difficult to see who is the recipient of this “respects” or “prayer”. With religions where they think that someone IS hearing the prayer the fact that there is a recipient of the prayer makes sense (regardless whether this being exists or whether the religion is truth or not). So, so far I have not heard a solid explanation for this Buddhist ritual/prayer.

Love the statement that it isn't blind faith. You hear it, you practice it, you experience the truth, there's no suspension of disbelief. I found Buddhism long before I knew much about Buddhism because it's truly natural.

Something you might find helpful is to stop trying, stop watching out for a moment of enlightenment. Enlightenment will come naturally as you experience reality through the buddhist lens, and watching and waiting for enlightenment to act as a sort of savior for you will only deepen your suffering and push you further from becoming enlightened. Buddhists don’t pray or have faith, not core or original buddhists. This is something made up afterwards that doesn’t base itself on Buddha’s teaching. It’s a shame to make people think this is from Buddha. Praying does nothing, there’s no god in Buddhism. Nobody is listening. And faith, faith when not used instead of trust or hope is always bild. It is to believe withoit proof. Something not mundane should never be connected with faith, Buddhism does not teach you to believe without proof and once tested it’s no longer faith. I dislike this video.

Buddhists pray all the time, there are examples of prayer all over the Pali Canon. Sometimes even the gods pray to the Buddha.
There are gods in Buddhism. There are so many that they're actually ranked by their godliness. The Buddha mentioned recollection of the merits of the gods as a suitable focus for meditation.
Faith is mentioned in many suttas as well. The Buddha describes faith as one of the first steps on the path.
You have absorbed wrong information about Buddhism from sources that either weren't Buddhist, or weren't familiar with the Buddhist canon.
This is how you pray get the only book that was inspired by the holy spirit. It's called the bible and read psalms 23 . And then read the bible only because it will save you from God's wrath if you live by the word of God only.

Also by judging and damning others to Hell before they have time to repent in and of itself is a sin. Buddhism has claimed no lives during war while in the 3 Crusades corrupt Pope's had millions of men killed so Christianity could rule over the Holy Lands. Buddhism embraces suffering to find Peace in suffering and to give love to all people and while Buddhist Monks have shown much respect to Christians I see you have shown very little back in return.
Stoics have a quote for this kind of situation. If God is just he will judge you by your virtues and character not by how devout you are, if God is unjust you should not worship him, if their is no God then find peace in your final moments as you lived a just life.

Hello! I am new to Buddhism and have a question reguarding prayer. Who is the prayer to? To my very limited understanding there is no god in Buddhism, and the Buddha is not to be worshiped as a god.
Yes, this is a good question. I am meditator but cannot say I am a Buddhist and so far I haven’t heard an explanation from any Buddhist which makes sense. If the Buddha does not exist now in any form and if no one says that he can in any way receive the “respects”, bowing, prostrations, or the flowers at his altar/statue then for whom is this “respect” paid? Clearly it is not directed at the person doing this and if it’s directed at the Buddha statue if he can’t hear it then it makes no sense.
Does praying for someones health for eg. lets say someone is sick. Does it actually change/influence their health when i have such aspirations or it is only for me to become hopeful about their situation and encourage them or for me to quell my anxieties about them? Is it a mind trick?
Just consider it as an affirmation. You become what you attract. Words are in itself prayers. That's why we should be mindful of what we're saying.
A prayer can not make things happen, but it may change the way you understand the situation. If prayers were answered the world would be a different place without war, rape and torture. All we can do is prayer for ourselves and our own path. If you try to change the world with prayers you will be dissapointed.
It isn't a mind "trick" so much as a "training." The mind is very powerful, but tends to be enveloped by a lot of impurities, which renders us less competent when facing challenges. Such a struggle is generally understood to be a result of "karmic obscurations." Everyone suffers from this, but to different degrees due to our respective circumstances.
When we intend to alter the course of our thoughts to something wholesome, such as wishing goodwill upon others, this results in purification, which results in clarification. We may develop an ability to heal others by virtue of understanding how to do so, but our own healing, as accomplished through developing a virtuous mode of thought, speech, and action, is what ultimately allows benefit to be reflected toward all beings.
The fact is she is a Buddhist . Therefore, I respect her beliefs. I am a Buddhist too ! Difference is, when I address I address Lama, chho, dharma than all Gurus, including Hindu Gurus , buddha, Jesus and Allah I believe sort of a World Religion, and to respect all religion is to respect humanity. The New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) you promote here has harmed a lot of people (including me and my friends). Ex-Members of the group (known as ”New Kadampa Survivors”) describe it as a personality cult around a single autocrat, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. As journalists, would you promote Scientology groups? I think you should be similar cautious in promoting the NKT. Any simple investigation into the background of the group should make you doubt your decision to promote them. For us survivors this naive promotion is a like slap in our face. PLEASE do some research and please abandon this nativity that everything which comes under the label Buddhism is good or harmless. I noticed she said "may everyone be free from misery" but one of the four truths is accepting suffering and misery and knowing that it is a part of life, what she should be praying for is more for the ones suffering to let go of the pain and the need and want and bring happiness and harmony even in a time of hurt.

Part of accepting suffering and misery is becoming free from the misery that is caused by our own minds in response to physical afflictions. You have a misunderstanding of what these teachings are about I'm afraid.
I would be careful about telling a renunciant what they "should" be praying for. She wouldn't be ordained if she didn't know the Four Noble Truths.
Also, perhaps look up the Metta Sutta for an example of such a prayer given by the Buddha himself.

I have learned a while ago that buddhism (depending on the school) does not hold meaning to a word because holding meaning to word is to hold on to the material world. If you instead can write down the essence of the word and still understand it even in another language, yu are basically doing the same as this praying. Btw i believe the praying she does here seems to belong more to the Mahayana school, which is basically the teachings of the Tathagata with many believes and legends twisted together and thus it is possible it is even older than the actual buddhist himself. Only studying the life of the buddha himself is Theravada buddhism which is usually more of a phylosophy.

Words, like all dharmas, have no inherent dharma. A word's meaning is fluid and changeable. For example, "I love you" can mean many diffrrent things depending on context and intention.

I am sure she had well-intention but this nun is mistaken.
The merit earned is not a direct cause for enlightenment in Vajrayana Buddhism. Merit causes one good karma but merit should be quickly dedicated to all other sentient beings or else it may spoil or one could even have too much good karma and be trapped in their next incarnation as an unenlightened god and inevitably eventually exhaust all their good karma back to square one as a hell-being.
In other words you can have all the merit in the world and still be hopelessly unenlightened and trapped in the cycle of samsara.
Enlightenment can occur gradually or instantly but only after all ignorance is totally extinguished from having absolute unrestricted awareness.
Once this fully happens it is supposedly impossible
to ever truly degrade back to an unenlightened being.
Only when enlightened do we become truly free from constraints of samsara.... and some enlightened beings choose to free all others before themselves and stay in samsara like a bodhisattva buddha or lotus in the mud.
This is just what some Vajrayana Buddhist Tibetans told me anyway.

Yea, I don’t have anything against if people want to do this paying of homage and respect to Buddha. But since Buddha does not exist now it is still difficult to see who is the recipient of this “respects” or “prayer”. With religions where they think that someone IS hearing the prayer the fact that there is a recipient of the prayer makes sense (regardless whether this being exists or whether the religion is truth or not). So, so far I have not heard a solid explanation for this Buddhist ritual/prayer.
