I used to have this phone and i loved it. I have always loved a 5 row keyboard on a phone. Too bad it was let down by laggy UI. Overall I still enjoyed using it. And who can forget Brandon's voice on every PocketNow video?!
He's right, I checked the functional demo at the Sprint store and it does feel good in your hands because it's not as tall or wide. Very good device. I tried everything from texting, browsing the web, playing the RUclips app, and creating a document in Mobil Word. It's all decent but you really have to get used to the keyboard. The keys are not domed enough and doesn't give you an assured feedback after pressing them. One cool thing to note is that the d-pad acts like a zoom when you turn it.
There are both GSM and CDMA versions. The GSM versions have been out for a while now.. Sprint gets the CDMA version of the Touch Pro in October, and just released the Touch Diamond.
I think the flexibility between the keyboard and main device maybe an innovation to prevent breakage which breakage may occur in a more rigid device. I would probably have to look at the device more closely myself to determine if it is a flaw or function.
how does that matter - magnetism goes through plastic right? just curious...I understand your concerns - but if you simply but your wallet in the right pocket, phone in the left ...everything should be fine...also I dont think magnetism affect cards with a build-in chip, only those with a magnetic strip
Hi. I am in a little situation. I received this Phone which is the HTC Touch Pro but its made for Sprint, and I cant find a sim-card slot in it. I am going back to europe from the united states by the end of January and I am wondering can I some how fix this issue and be able to put a sim-card in to this phone? Please help.
hey i have sprint but i dont like the sprint model is there anyway for me to get this odel then switch it over to sprint in if i could where would i buy the original one from??
i have problem with my touch pro, i just had it for 15 days and the battery life is too bad and get hot, the most annoying thing i found was in the case that was included with the product. When i recieve a call, and pulling the phone out of the case, it declines or answer the phonecall! I have it on hold and such, but still living his own life!, please tell me what can i do?, i just change carrier, im with sprint now so do i keep it or change it or get another phone?? can u help me?
should i get this or the mogul? i want to get the mogul but it has te slower processor. has 64mb or something like that or processor where this has almost double. would 64 really be that bad? i really like the looks of the mogul but its gettni pretty old. does it really freeze alot? i probably wont be going on he internet alot. thanks
Are you sure this cannot be used with a T-Mobile service? if you look at 3:15-3:33 where he actually points out the sim card. Sure you can pop your sim card in but will it work with the T-Mobile Service?
greekmonster - thats absolutely the cool thing about it - my htc is a communication & assistent pro to me, chat protocols (msn, icq, yahoo), mail, voip (mobile voip!), google maps (VERY useful!), sms, organizing, streaming videos, websites....dude you name it - its awesome! thats the future
It depends on what you do. If you keep your plastic in a thick wallet it won't have any effect. If you'd actually rub the cards against the back of the phone it would probably mess up the magnetic signature. The same thing could happen if you'd keep your plastic on the top of a TV, DVD, PC or similar electric device. So, keep your plastic safe!
yea, just the touch diamond is available through telus right now, but the touch pro is no where near canadian release yet. It will, if it does more than likely be on Telus, but thats a big IF, cause as far as smartphones go, we get new phones that are a year or 2yrs old compared to when the rest of the world gets them. Im thinking on either getting this phone and running on Fido, or renewing my contract with Telus and get the Diamond, but im loving this one more.
The stylus is magnetic so that you can leave it sticking to the side of the phone while you use your hands for something. That way, you don't have to keep sticking the stylus in and out. Yout just stick it to the side while you pick your nose or something.
so dude ive been tryin to buy this one..not the AT&T version nor the verizon.....i want the one from HTC unlocked with the dual cameras...i kno its more xpensive but if u can send me the link to buy it ill be appreciate it......
Thats the way Sprint phones are. The information is programmed into the phone so you don't have to worry about SIM cards. They have some SIM card phones that are international but you chose the wrong phone.
I just got one from sprint for $299 dollars with my upgrade. One thing I'm afraid of is the magnet and my credit cards, a wallet wont be enough to stop the magnet from affecting my cards
hey, i was looking for a phone with a magnetic backing. I think it is worth buying this phone. I dun have to use a phone holder on my car. I can paste a metal sheet at my dash board/ steering wheel and stick my phone there.
HAHA OH GOD I'm in public and I watched that segment with your comment in mind. The lady that works here at the cafe was wondering why I was nearly crying.
Is it time to buy this phone, i saw it for 99 dollars at ebay, and i want to know if i can buy this cellphone now, or buy a new one, Does it have 3.5mm conector for headphones, doesn't it?
You guys all have no idea what you're talking about. Currently, the touch pro is only available in Europe, (And a few other places) for Vodafone. It's coming to Sprint in september and Verizon in october, as is the touch diamond.
To my knowledge, this phone does not utilize SIM cards. Also, T-Mobile doesn't have access to the software for this phone, so you couldn't even have an employee import things like contacts, text, photos, etc. :/
All of the buttons on this phone suck besides the qwerty pad. The 6700 had a better layout. It had a start, camera, programmable keys, ok buttons. It even had a joystick that works. I can't even press left or right without activating the buttons next to it
I used to have this phone and i loved it. I have always loved a 5 row keyboard on a phone. Too bad it was let down by laggy UI. Overall I still enjoyed using it. And who can forget Brandon's voice on every PocketNow video?!
This was that phone I wanted for so long! I’m super tempted on getting one now but not sure if it would actually work with our new connectivity hahaha
That makes two of us.
same
Hey, Brandon. Extremely clear and comprehensive review of the HTC Touch Pro. Thanks a million.
He's right, I checked the functional demo at the Sprint store and it does feel good in your hands because it's not as tall or wide. Very good device. cant wait! picked mine up an hour ago, charging now, cant wait to use it!!!!
There are both GSM and CDMA versions. The GSM versions have been out for a while now.. Sprint gets the CDMA version of the Touch Pro in October, and just released the Touch Diamond.
I miss having this phone honestly... I loved the design, and the keyboard...
An awesome Review!! Good Luck from Brazil
I think the flexibility between the keyboard and main device maybe an innovation to prevent breakage which breakage may occur in a more rigid device. I would probably have to look at the device more closely myself to determine if it is a flaw or function.
it's a windows mobile 6 phone, although you can use software called "the missing sync" to sync the calendar, contacts, etc with a mac.
Excellent reviews, much appreciated and looking forward to your next software review of the HTC Touch Pro.
Very good, thorough, clear spoken review.
My goodness look at how far we've come.
I have the Samsung Rant. I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm thinking about upgrading to the HTC Touch Pro. What do you think?
Amazing to watch this today! I had the T-Mobile variant of it, it was the MDA Vario IV. Amazing phone back then
how does that matter - magnetism goes through plastic right? just curious...I understand your concerns - but if you simply but your wallet in the right pocket, phone in the left ...everything should be fine...also I dont think magnetism affect cards with a build-in chip, only those with a magnetic strip
I just wanted to say that this was an excellent review. Very informative and helpful. Thank you very much.
on the phone can you use your wireless network to get pictures and music from your computer?
Thanks for the review! Great work:D Hope to get mine next week!

I think this is a great phone, but I need your advise, I'm between the Samsung Omnia and this HTC Touch Pro, which one would you recommend me to buy?

im deciding if i should get the touch diamond for alltell and i went on their site and found out it cost 350.00 so im hoping its as good as they say.
Are you sure this cannot be used with a T-Mobile service? if you look at 3:15-3:33 where he actually points out the sim card. Sure you can pop your sim card in but will it work with the T-Mobile Service?
DOes nyone kno when the touch pro is coming out for ATT?
i just got mine. however when i try to move with the navigation button it only lets me go up and down thats it. is that normal?

I couldnt help but notice the blue and orange SIM card...that would happen to be cingluar? would it?
seriously, what are the GLARING differences between this and Pro 2? I might buy this to save money
Does this have call ettiqate
when the bell rings, if we turn the phone
it becomes silent ?
mine did come with a head phone adapter that plugs into the usb port at the bottom.

yes, the fuze is just the touch pro rebranded by AT&T
yea, just the touch diamond is available through telus right now, but the touch pro is no where near canadian release yet. I have one of these.. i think, can i like upgrade to this software? i hate the phone so far..
I saw this phone earlier at Best Buy, and it was A LOT smaller than I thought it would be...it was almost shocking
I think it is available already. Check on sprint website.
how to i change my menu style to look like that one? my menu looks like a mini pc looking thing
The stylus is magnetic so that you can leave it sticking to the side of the phone while you use your hands for something. That way, you don't have to keep sticking the stylus in and out. Yout just stick it to the side while you pick your nose or something.
I remember having this phone in high school when it came out. Jeez time has just disappeared
should i get this or the htc g1 (t-mobile)???

Can you take pictures with the front camera?
what does he mean a front facing camera for those whose can use it??? does it have a video call feature???
if you use the wi-fi does it get charged bc my parents wont let me have the data plan
so dude ive been tryin to buy this one..not the AT&T version nor the verizon.....i want the one from HTC unlocked with the dual cameras...i kno its more xpensive but if u can send me the link to buy it ill be appreciate it......

A blast from the past!
You did a great and clear review
Thanks
there's no headphone jack for it? How are you supposed to listen to mp3's and the FM radio? bluetooth?
Thats the way Sprint phones are. The information is programmed into the phone so you don't have to worry about SIM cards. They have some SIM card phones that are international but you chose the wrong phone.
Does anyone know if this phone is Slow for Us cellular ???
mine dos'nt have a "status light" next to the speaker it has i light sensor :S
I have it now, really good to have your own memorycard cause the m.space isn't all that much. (500 mb orso)
great phone!
cool review how much is the htc pro (not on contract)
whats with the button in the middle blinking. they would be annoying and waste battery but you could disable it.its on standby anyways.
anyone know if you can use this on ATT unlocked?
Your right, it's thick BUT it's less wide, that way we are happy b/c now we have less digital display.
I just got one from sprint for $299 dollars with my upgrade. One thing I'm afraid of is the magnet and my credit cards, a wallet wont be enough to stop the magnet from affecting my cards
where's a jack for the headphones ???

how much for the phone itself?
I had the Sprint Touch Pro. I don't think it had a front facing camera. Great phone. Crazy expensive too. I paid 299.99 on a contract.
Lizzie McVeigh I had one from Sprint too
Great sharing ! Thank

oh so that's were the memory card slot is. I was thinking it was on top of the phone by the power button
The AT&T Fuze is the exact same phone.. just pop your T-Mobile sim card in it.
