Eric Burton, the singer, wrote this about the colors he saw while sitting on his uncle's roof in New Mexico. He wrote it 12 years ago while learning to play guitar. He wanted this to sound somewhat spiritual.
You have to listen to some of Black Pumas music. Burton writes most of the songs and he writes in a poetic way. Basically don't worry over much about the meanings of his songs.
To add on here, the producer is the guy playing guitar - Adrian Quesada.
The song Colors was up for record of the year in 2021 Grammys.

You are correct that this song has over 1000 interpretations, depending on who you are. To me, a 53 year old white lady, it is about accepting everyone, no matter what color or shade they are. We are all sisters and brothers.
