I’m starting observations tomorrow for my internship and eventually perform play therapy sessions as well. I am trying to get the tracking vocabulary down, any tips? Or internship advise?
Have you had formal training in CCPT? Reflective responses in CCPT are about recognizing intent, wish, want and identifying the child's experience with the goal being they feel you are "in their world" supporting them. Practice, practice, practice, it takes time and patience in learning the skills of CCPT.
Cary Hamilton Thank you greatly, I will remember your words for the weeks to come. To answer you question, I do not have any former training in CCPT. Only my former 3 years of education to guide me and what I can dig up on RUclips. Other than that, my internship is very hands on
I was curious, do you see a benefit in playing board games or games that get children to directly talk about feelings or learn direct coping skills? Thank you
Games like: feelings Uno, candyland feelings, games that teach coping skills? Or liana lowenstein games/activities? I guess by nature, I teach clients (adults, teens and children) direct skills. I definitely see the benefit of non directive play as helping children heal and process.
Hi, thankyou for sharing! May I know what is the problem with this client? I am using your video for my assignment to learn to observe a child. Thank you.
I am very new to CCPT. I am having trouble understanding when the child asks the therapist to place things, why is the therapist not placing them? It seems like it would be frustrating to the child, as they have repeated themselves several times. Is the child asking for help, or is there something else going on here?
In CCPT we believe in empowering and encouraging the child to do things on their own. We are their to support them and problem-solve, not do it for them. We are encouraging self-efficacy, self-esteem, and autonomy. Being present for them, and showing we believe in them encourages them to try on their own. Many children have everything done for them, which creates learned helplessness and low self-worth. Feel free to ask any other questions. Cary
Good day. May I know what the objective of this consultation with this client was? I am using this video for an assignment to learn to observe a child and how to write a report. Thank you.
To engage in a non directive play therapy session with a child. To allow for self expression, experience safe limit setting, encouragement, and healthy expression verbally and no verbally. Does he appear safe and secure, does he appear to feel seen, hear and understood by the adult? All things children often don’t experience outside of the play room and do in session.
Therapist interactions are fantastic. Non directive. Just brilliant. Not overly interactive. However still present. Letting the client lead.

“I wonder” statements to reframe questions! Letting the child know you are curious without asking them a direct question and influencing play

What was the session number? The child clearly knows the play therapist and what happens in the play room.
4th or 5th I believe
