Great idea, would it be better to set the pipe slightly at an angle so the cach gets reset automatically under gravity. The magnet would have to be strong enough to work against the slopes friction.
Michael Wilkinson That would make things a bit easier for sure! Whenever you can remove the possibility of user (or in this case, cacher) error, it makes for a more efficient product.
nlcsmvp96 The end cap is a larger cavity than the rest of the body of the container, so the ball prevents the bison tube from falling into the larger cavity. The magnet isn't strong enough to pull the bison tube out of the cavity.
GeoHowTo Oh hmm ok. We went to Home Depot tonight to buy most of the supplies, but the location is going to be tricky! I see you have it anchored against a fence dealie. Is that adjacent to like a shopping center or something?
GeoHowTo Also, I'm reading a little bit now about people mistaking caches like this for pipe bombs. Thoughts? I found a great place to hide mine today but I am afraid this could be an issue.
How much is this gonna cost? In Finland one small pipe is 15 euros, end cap 5 euros and the screwon cap 4 euros, the part that is between the screwon cap and the pipe is 5 euros. Pretty expensive if you ask me. How much this costs in america?

What's the function of the ping-pong ball? is it just that the magnet won't be strong enough to penetrate both the pipe and the cap surrounding it?

For safety purposes it would be a good idea to place caches completely out of view of muggles. I try to avoid placing caches in congested areas.

All of the pipe materials only cost around $10 total.
