Yes the well awaited video thank you so much 😋 and Dale how do you say the sale numbers anyway I use tck publishing calculator and whats your source and how accurate is it is this only for Kindle what about paperback and others??
Publisher Rocket is my source. It does it all for me. And short reads categories are not for print. Also, much like any source, it’s not 100% since we cannot account for page reads. I covered accuracy in my Rocket review video: ruclips.net/video/0x3P9iqTvPI/видео.html
Thanks for this info, great :-) I've given up on researching anything at all in the 15 minute reads. I may be wrong but the category is completely skewed because most of the 'top' ones are pre-orders of much, much longer books which are set to release later in the year. They automatically end up in 15 mins because they only have a few teaser pages right now but people have bought them because the author is already super-popular in the category they *will* end up in when the whole book releases. Amazon needs to sort this out.
Yeah, I foresee them addressing this issue in due time. They’ve been tightening the reigns on categories lately. So, I imagine they’ll automate categories to where they’ll detect page count and kick out ebooks not honoring the limits.
Kevin Maguire yeah, I’m an optimist and try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are some category squatters. They know what they’re doing and they need to GIT. 😬
I'll be busting out more short reads this year. It's on the agenda. Good news, the monster Chapter 4 is finished. It's 15,300 words, the total count so far is 26k.
Wow! Good work. I’m falling behind, but will be back on the horse this weekend. I’ll be doing some writing sprints to get caught up on Saturday and Sunday. I had to handle some RUclips stuff and I’m finally done with a 3-month project. Now that’s done, I have no excuses.
Kevin Maguire Oh, it’s trivial to most people. But...I got a consult by a big name RUclips expert. He assigned me the task of rebranding every last thumbnail and updating metadata of every video. That was over 300 😳 I could only do 5 per day according to his instructions. Today’s my last day. Thank god.
No, I’d worked with Jeremy Vest formerly of VidIQ. He’s helped tons of video creators breakthrough in their niche. He’s gone on to work with Braille Skateboards on RUclips. I’m pumped for him.
Just put it in Rocket and the niches are still easy and stable. Normally if anything lands on youtube it's dead a month later. :D The only question that remains is if the market is really not there or it may have been dissatisfied in the past? Very cool series - thank you very much Dale ;)
Thanks, Alexandra. Yeah, you'd think these niches would become too competitive or lose all relevance within a month. But, I provide information and sometimes people just don't take advantage of the info. Glad you enjoyed the video and the series! The last part rolls out tomorrow.
I've already gone through these the old fashion way and I found the same these few categories suck other categories are much tighter And Dale what's the ideal pricing range for this anyway. I know I'm raining my questions on you but now that you've uploaded this video you made me curious enough to ask and I know you'll answer so thanks for everything.,😉
One thing I notice looking through short reads categories is that many of the top spots are taken by novels or non fiction books that are mis-categorized as 1 page or 2 pages long?!? I wonder how that happens? Example: The top spot in 15 minute Business and Money is "The Lean Startup" which is 300 pages long, but if you look at it's metadata, it's listed as 1 page long.
They put the book on preorder using a place holder for their manuscript. Then, before it launches, they upload the final manuscript. Amazon doesn’t recognize the change in page count.
I was a bit confused about that as well I'm browsing through short reads and see a book, that actually is a full novel and I realize those short reads are just samples of this book.
Is it worth creating short books specifically to appear on short reads? My guess is any author who already has books can use some of the material already published and summarize it to make a short read out of one chapter of the main book+

Amen. That's a huge problem and I don't think it's an accident on the part of the authors.

I wouldn’t go for a summary. But, writing to market is a good idea if you select the right niche.
@@DaleLRoberts I'll have to give this more research, perhaps expanding one chapter into a short read!

Seeing that quite a few of these categories are iffy, does this still make a legitimate marketing strategy for fiction writing?
Yes.
Dale...I just realized you never mentioned how many sales you needed for Scifi/fantasy. Bit sad about that 😥

Erotica short stories do really well too
True. But sadly, they don’t really have a category in the publicly available short reads.
