There not meant to go over 57 mph I have the black 2022 grom and use it daily for work and grocery shopping and it’s running great I see the more people modify them the faster the breakdown
I agree 100% but like a lot of people we bought these bike to modify and knew full well the risks, all this did is make me mod it more😂. I can’t recall the last time I saw a stock Grom without paper plates.
Usually when the piston breaks like that it got so hot the ring gap closed too tight and cracked the piston ring land. Could be the ring gap was too tight or just overheating and possibly got too lean.
Mad for no reason there are several pictures of the head pulled. At the time I was using a shop to install parts. They pulled the head and sent the pictures posted in the video.
Typical? I have my dhm cam with 5k miles and it lives at 8-10k rpm all day because I ride freeways. Literally stays at 8-9k rpm for 2 hours straight every other day
Wtf?! What's the mileage?? Fluke?? I'd certainly call your dealer and see what's up. The cost of these little things they should be reliable if not beat on IMO. Keep me updated, this type of thing worries me
Not built for it but fun as hell, I have 7 other bikes that I can ride. I know the loss of a grom motor might devastate you but I could care less, just gives me an excuse to do the 149 kit. Don’t be jealous dude its a bad look.
Because he can, plain and simple. We buy these bikes because it's fun to see just how much we can get out of them. We know full well what we've bought, what we're getting into, what could potentially go wrong and what the consequences of modding it may be, but the benefits of increased performance and the wow factor alone outweigh the costs for us. We do what we do because we like it, not because of how anyone else feels about it. If you don't like it, it's as simple as moving on. What we do to our bikes has no bearing on your life whatsoever.
All parts were in spec and tune done by DHM? It was a common failure point on the gen 1 pistons they have since fixed the issue with a new design. Groms are fuel injection and the proper injector was installed

I think everyone who mods a Grom understands this. With how cheap they are you just buy another engine and have fun
Yeah it’s not like a new motor is all that much for these things.
Yeah I found that out recently 😂
It seems like its a newly added piston that is the culprit in the majority of engine failures
That probably ppl don’t tune them correctly
I bought a new honda 300L last year and was thinking about a new grom this year, this made me take a step back. 😞
Groms are solid, mine blew up because of mods I did, if you leave them stock they will last forever
Did you ever get your ecu reflash?
this isn't a normal thing to happen with groms. Normally takes place after mods and heavy throttle use.
This is what happens when you mess with Honda Perfection. If it's not broken don't fix it!!!!!!!!!

I own a 2015 Grom. I did zero mods. It runs great with 5700 miles.
🤨, 5700 on a 2015, dang dude you do have to ride them to know if they are dependable

My 2007 Ruckus has over 29,000 miles. I use my Ruckus way more than my Grom. My Grom is a back up bike when my Ruckus goes to the shop.
Nice! Not many Ruckus riders out here
‘I wanted to do more stupid stuff to it as a 125’.
Says it all.
Already doing really stupid stuff to it as a 149, if blowing up a grom motor makes someone upset they have other issues at hand

For sure heat is bad, that being said you don’t see this nearly as often with the SF motor and high compression pistons.
I got so mad watching the video coming to an end without seeing the top end pulled off to see what happened.
Mad for no reason there are several pictures of the head pulled. At the time I was using a shop to install parts. They pulled the head and sent the pictures posted in the video.
Oh no!! Hopefully you get it resolved soon.
It should be done in the next week or two
Typical from probably a DHM cam. Most are saying due to over revving. Might as well do a swap at that given point.
Typical? I have my dhm cam with 5k miles and it lives at 8-10k rpm all day because I ride freeways.
Literally stays at 8-9k rpm for 2 hours straight every other day
I agree the cam is Fire 🔥, the pistons might need some adjustments. My bike ran great till the piston
It seems like its a newly added piston that is the culprit in the majority of engine failures
my dhm cam in my '18 grom is still doin great tbh. seems like the pistons cause issues.. they tend to break a lot from what ive seen...
what led kit are you using?? looks great, sucks about your motor tho :(
Two of the generic Amazon motorcycle LED strip combos
Very broken means you push it home not actually ride it home and its not broken if you can ride it home!! Probably bad gas and a clogged air filter!
This comment sounds like you never watched the video.
I like your bike lift. Where did you get it?
HarborFreight
You put premium in your grom?
I did then but have since switched to race fuel
same thing happened to my buddys dhm piston! the little piece of the corner broke off.. what gives eh?
Piston lip is too thin and fails, currently dealing with DHMs 149 kit, short story don’t do it

It’s modded when we pulled it apart the HC piston was damaged. Not Hondas fault
@@fubarsnafu82 What do you have done for mods??
HC piston, Cam, Tune, Intake, Exhaust
Same happened to me. Guess the oil cooler is mandatory with anything above intake and exhaust. More specifically with cam and hcp.
Spoke to DHM they now recommend oil cooler
How did you instal your led lights. I’m thinking of putting some on. Just seems tricky
Best advise is take your time hide the wires and lights as best as possible. I use a combo of adhesive and epoxy to hold them in place
@@fubarsnafu82 I have like 12 ft of spare led lights and just now remembered them.
The more the better
