👍👍 this is all awesome advice! I especially love the "aftercare" type angle where your cool down is incorporated as part of the session by default. Seems like that could also potentially air out little issues before they snowball sometimes 👍👍
My favourite pregame ritual is warming my metal dice up in my hands, very tactile and makes for a decent fidget in game with the bonus that my dice are always within reach (until I forget I was holding them and then proceed to search the entire room except for my hand 😅)
And the "treat yourself like a toddler" mindset is an absolute life saver for me, 10/10 recommend!

I tend to use character specific dice (combinations) to help with characterisation.
Also if you do want to do cocktails for your character, there are some great mocktails. One of my partners is particularly fond of a tea, herb, and fruit juice based one.
In the dealing with character feels department, I've found writing a character will/in the event of my death letter to be really helpful with dealing with character peril. Even the one that was basically "I'm dead and do not care. Just take care of the donkey."

"get rid of all the sounds that are not good sounds" I hear you say faintly as I turn up the volume so I can hear you better over the drilling and hammering of my neighbours
    yop, amazing timing 👍👍

I think this video has helped me understand better why I love the idea of roleplaying but never quite enjoy the actual experience. I think the way I was approaching it was ending up with me two levels deep of social rules that take a lot of spoons for me to deal with.
Also, I love your long waistcoat thingy

For group debriefs, I tend to use stars and wishes, even with my group of teenagers (including neurospicy onces). It's quite quick, because they only have to come up with 2 things and those things are as simple as: name 1 thing you really liked this session and 1 thing you like to see in a future session. This really helps me as the DM to understand what they like and what to include more in the game.

Also, as a fellow neurospicy individual, I always have either some hand sewing I’ve saved for game or I have a knitting project going. When I was playing in person, I doodled constantly. Brain cannot function unless hand slot is equipped.

As a DM that has trouble not being a little unstimulated during my brief time as a player because my brain is used to spinning 15 plates, this is a lifesaver video. Cheers!

So much great advice! I played a WOD larp character for many years (Demeter's Thunderstorm was my signature scent, highly recommend for moody, brooding characters!) and recently started playing tabletop Cypher system. I've been surprised by how much easier many things tend to be, but also I really miss inhabiting physical spaces with a character and your video has given me lots of ideas to bring that to the table. ❤❤❤

(1st edition NWoD if things have changed FYI) For the WoD damage counters, I think the tokens would have to switch from life to damage tokens as you used them.
Layout: 4 cups/graph rows labeled Life, Bashing, Lethal, Aggravated.
Scenario: Life would start with total health (let's say 10); attack round 1 nets 4B, 2L. Pull 6 life tokens out to their respective cups, 4 left in life. Next turn adds another 5B- 4 life tokens go to Bashing, one comes out of Bashing into Lethal. Next turn adds 6B, all 4 Bashing tokens move to Lethal, 2 Lethal tokens move to Agg.
If you wanted to get fancy, add LED lights for them to change colors as they move xD

Ash coming for my DM prep! 😂 This video was brilliant. I’ve been playing since high school shortly after 3.5 came out and all of these are great points. I am definitely sharing this with both groups I play with.

I haven't played in over 20 years. I still have my stuff in a vinyl briefcase. Haven't had an opportunity to play with son-in-law. There are grandkids now. I'd love to give one of them my stuff from the 80s.

I think the "after care" downtime thing can be really important even if you don't feel you've had especially deep character immersion or aren't having Big Feels. For various reasons the past few games I've played have been much lighter on the immersion however, we always finish around 10:30pm on a weekday evening. AKA more or less when I go to bed. I realised I always slept badly on RPG nights: pretty concentrated social and thinking maybe with some combat or high stakes decision making put my brain in an active state which just wasn't good for going to sleep. And if I had foolishly drunk an entire pot of green tea because that felt IC then double trouble. But just taking a bit of time to unwind properly meant I slept better.
