Over $100,000 just spent at a professional shop; one of the coolest Things on the planet! We have photos and a folder stuffed with documentation of the build. It was literally taken apart as far as you can take it. Put back together with many upgrades and performance equipment. It's fast and the handling lives up to the power.
EXTERIOR: Stripped to a bare metal shell. There is no rust or damage. The rear fenders are 2 inches wider for a fat tire. Custom made metal ram air intakes. The deck lid is vented. All 4 doors lift right off and windshield folds down for a real open air experience. The trim is blacked out. LED headlights and taillights, smoked lenses and custom fog lights. Brand new convertible soft top and frame still in the package which installs easily. It was left off for a cleaner look. Complete set of side curtains are included. It also has an optional hardtop that was restored. It is riding on a set of 17 inch classic Falcon Wheels with custom lugs and performance tires.
INTERIOR: The interior really pops! The gutted interior was prepped and painted body color. All new wiring harness. Bright red heated seats with diamond stitched upholstery and memory foam cushions. The dash pads and console are upholstered. It features a Tesla style navigation with Bluetooth. Rockford Fosgate speakers, amp and sub woofers in a custom made box. $400 billet shifter and billet pedals. GPS speedometer with a tachometer. Other features include USB ports, color match steering wheel, cup holders, red mats, carpeted floor, billet e- brake handle and red boot.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The 1,585 cc, 46hp motor was replaced with a high performance turbo charged 2,276 cc stroker motor Dyno tuned at 202hp! It was professionally built by Dyno Source Performance, we have detailed receipts. They started with a new magnesium stroker block, forged pistons, straight cut cam and crank gears, turbo cut cam, high ratio performance rockers, billet lifters, Mofoco 050 Rasser heads, high rev chromoly push rods, chromoly flywheel, high volume oil pump with filter and more. It has a Rodney Adams stainless RAD X260 ball bearing turbo kit. Complete MSD ignition system with Pro Billet distributor, boost timing master and a 2 step kit. Holley carb custom made for this application. It has a large oil cooler with electric fan, 90 amp alternator and carbon fiber air intake. Billet pulleys, oil filler, valve and covers. Custom 3 inch stainless exhaust. The engine bay is painted and detailed.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It has been stripped and painted glossy. Red diamond stitched upper and lower mats. New fuel tank and sending unit.
UNDERSIDE It was a full pan off restoration. It is all rust free clean metal painted gloss black. New Mofoco high performance built trans axle. It has 33 spline axles, rear sway bar, tubular truss bar, 200 mm stage lll clutch. Rebuilt brake system, upgraded to disc at all four wheels, new lines, Porsche Master cylinder and working e-brake. Up front has drop spindles, swaybar and 2 inch narrowed front adjustable beam. In back it has rear adjustable spring plates. Energy suspension bushings.
This is one bad ass Thing! A blast to drive. So many combinations: hardtop, soft top, no top. Doors on, doors off. Windshield up or down. Lots of fun whatever you choose. Great conversation piece too. You can't take it anywhere without people making comments, all good ones. It went to 2 shows and won 1st place at both. VW buses consistently bring way into the 6 figures, this Thing is cooler than those!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.

An AMAZING build none of us have ever seen!
I wonder if anyone really truly knows how cool this would be to own. Not only is this vehicle very seldom ever seen nowadays but it is also beyond the Wow Factory!!
Years ago I rode around in a bright yellow one, cool then cooler now❤
Jay’s talent for coming up with truly unique and one of a kind is phenomenal, he often says stay tuned you never know what might be rolling thru next.
You may be a "VW gearhead" but everything that Jay shows&relates about "The Thing", is truely impressive. So wallow away in obscurity with your company and I'm sure this"Thing" will grace some carlovers garage. You ain't gonna see another one like this beast. Amen!!!
Cool VW what a stunning Thing, sounds like a German Mouse without slippers wow thanks Jay grams president of volo auto museum and russel for perfect photografy from tom your friend now and always 🤩 🤩
👍💯😎💯👍
Please add the missing engine tins. A small investment for the life of that $10k engine! Like mentioned in one of the comments, without the proper tins that engine will not last. The custom side vents is insufficient ventilation. Nonetheless, very nice build!
That Thing is nice - lol

The rear engine shroud is missing. Starts around 6:34. You'd expect a car built with this level of detail not to be missing an engine cooling component.
