Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Great job. What I appreciate the most is your brutal honesty and lack of justification for your purchases. Every single month I watch RUclipsrs with these massive drool-worthy hauls of ALL the delicious art supplies and while I certainly wish I could afford to do the same myself, I do always find myself thinking that there's no way "they" could possibly use all these supplies they're buying. And yet the RUclipsrs swear up and down they they're using all this stuff and raising kids and working full time and.... But I just don't drink the Kool-Aid because there's just no way. Therefore your honestly is so refreshing. I color what I think is a lot. I get at least a couple of hours a day of coloring in every single day and I too have a young child and work full time. I also have what "regular" people would call an enormous amount of art supplies and yet it pales horribly to the collections I see on RUclips. I mean mine is a great collection....somewhere around 16 or 18 pencil sets, four or five full sets of alcohol markers, couple sets of water based markers, maybe 8 different water color pallettes, full set of Neo II's, Neo I's, water color pencils, a gazillion gel pens, misc acrylic paints, sets of gel crayons, all kinds of pastels, etc. Plus all the other stuff like all the papers, Stickles, base media, and a 100 or so coloring books. To a RUclipsr its a modest collection but to a non-coloring friend or family member...they think I'm batshhhit crazy. My point is that even with my relatively modest collection, there are simply not enough days in the week to use everything and I could probably never buy another book or supply and still color for the rest of my life. So there's no way RUclipsrs can possibly be posting haul after haul and actually using all their stuff despite what they say. I don't know whats so hard about just admitting that sometimes we buy stuff simply because its so fun to get gorgeous art supplies in the mail. Or that sometimes its fun just to open a brand new untouched set of pencils and admire how they look and smell! Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I'll just swatch a pallette of watercolors because I want to see all those colors hit the paper and explode in the water once again and there's nothing wrong with that. Anyway, sorry for writing you a novel here but I just found this video so relatable and refreshing. Yes we color. But we also collect. And part of collecting is the fun of just owning and looking at and imagining the incredible potential that a box of gorgeous, bright, colorful, art supplies holds. Its truly magic. I adore this hobby and I generally adore other people who adore this hobby, but a little more honesty from some RUclipsrs would be nice because sometimes its hard not to get jealous of those huge hauls with every new product in it....all those products that are sitting in the shopping carts of people like me who can only dream of hitting the "Buy it Now" button at the moment. Lets share the good....and the bad.
Hi hun..... I totally agree with your words..... Although I think my collection isn't all that much bigger than your impressive art stash from the sounds of it lol..... But yes I have to say I prefer my channel to stick to the honesty of what life is and how much can one pair of hands possibly use really..... Best video ever! I too have a 'problem' with pencils....books....and a little bit of a whole lot of other things! LOL! One of the best things I heard you say throughout the video was 'when I remember that I have it'. I cannot tell you how many times I've stumbled across a supply and thought "wow...I forgot I even had that!". In a perfect world, if you can see it you will use it. My art room is long past the ability to support that concept. I'm doing a bit of a re-fresh in 2023. I destashed some books & supplies. I'm also not buying most Amazon paper books (RJ Hampson and Vasyl Saiko exempted). And I'm really trying to curb my purchase of new supplies. I've found that putting something in my cart and leaving it there for 1 or 2 days before purchasing it is often enough to keep me from buying it altogether. This will be the year of re-discovering what I have and coloring in some of my 'special' books that I just had to have. I just used foil flakes in a Hanna Karlzon picture and it was beautiful. Before last week I forgot I HAD foil flakes. Sigh. Right now I'm enjoying the 'door page' in Colin Thompson's Colouring Book. I'm loving the 'use what I have' concept so far and hope I can maintain throughout the year! And for the record...I thought your pile of supplies for one year was a totally acceptable amount! (not sure how comforting that is coming from another art supply hoarder). LOL! Great video though...one of the best that I've seen this year. Would love to see an update next year. I really love your channel Emma and appreciate immensely everything you do for our coloring community! 💖💖💜💜😍😍❤❤

I just subscribed. You go girl . I love haul videos ! I have a very small collection only because I'm retired living on a limited budget. If I was still working I'd happily be a hoarder *cough* collector lol . I only started this hobby after retirement unfortunately.. Anyone that says art supplies are not addictive is lying . That feeling when a package arrives unwrapping a new box of pencils, those glorious colors . The paints, inks , jams and jellies ,stamps and stenculs, papers and books I'd have them all if I had the money. There is so much fun creative things out there with new things coming out every day ! I love living vicariously of those with a RUclips channel that have all these lovely things . How boring would a colorist channel would be if they only had three sets of pencils, maybe two coloring books ? Those that leave rude comments are jealous if they want all the supplies they should start their own channel then they would understand . I just love dreaming about how fun it would be to have it all !

You are doing OK hun, I live alone and don't have family friends or a partner, I buy art goodies for my self for christmas and my birthday and wrap them up then forget what I've bought so then have surprises to open. I used to feel guilty at the amount I bought and then I thought I've got no one to spend my money on, don't drink or go out socially and never see a soul so why not??? I've been buying for my birthday since Xmas and do cringe now and again but spend my birthday on my own so it's something to look forward too on the day. I draw and paint every day and get so much pleasure out of it, and yes I have stuff I've never opened but will one day and get so much pleasure out of looking at it. Love your videoes

Interesting video Emma! Seeing it laid out like that and hearing your thoughts really consolidates things…absolutely no judgement because we all have different tolerance levels for what we are able to collect, store and afford. The good thing is pencils at least, don’t go off and I always say “they don’t eat much either” 😂 I really enjoyed seeing the puppers - they are beautiful ❤

I love your hauls! Hauls in general help me to determine if I really want something or not. I have found that watching several different reviews helps me really determine if i want it or not. I would be interested to see how you you your distressed oxides on pages. I bought a few distress inks and I must say there is a definite learning curve there. (Might be how I was applying them) I love your 🐶! They are just adorable 😍. TFS!

I must admit I have a pencil problem too 😂 I have 2 tins of Brutfuner squares as a backup and haven't even gone through my original set.
Also have the 300 Kalour premium color pencils set coming next week 😅 do I need them, no but certainly want them 😅 pencils are my weakness, what can I say 😊

Colouring with K is where I saw the 50 set of honey based water colours in irredescent colours. Unfortunately they don't make the 50 set anymore. I love my one tiny tin from the Art Spirits which I paid in Australian over $100. The csy was $31 & the Grabbe was cheaper yet and I love them as I love mixed media. I wouldn't give them away as watercolours don't go off. ❤

Love this vid, and must admit I'd be too scared to do this for myself as I have a problem lol. But it makes me happy and I am lucky to have my own room of haud but it's my happy place. Very enjoyable way to spend an evening. I love seeing your stuff. I too have a pencil problem. But I also have the problem of a very tiny home office which is my hobby space and a place I work when I’m not going into the warehouse.
Can you tell me what the difference is between distress inks and oxide inks? It’s never explained.
Don’t fret about the unopened Caran D’Ache watercolour pencils. They are going nowhere. I have the same set, still in plastic. My dad died in December 2019 and I knew he’d left me a little money. I inherited his set of Caran D’Ache watercolour pencils, a series they no longer make, in a 46 set. I loved them, especially the colours. So I bought myself one last Christmas present from Dad. I will open them one day. But it’s quite an emotional thing and for now I love knowing that they are there when I need them.

Ohhh hun that is beautiful and sad about your dad.... I can see why you hold them and hope when they are finally opened they immerse you in wonderful memories.
To change the topic the question you asked the distress inks are dye inks and so dry faster and have a less opaque finish that allows your background to show .... But oxides are a hybrid dye plus pigment so they dry slower and are even more opaque than the inks giving a smoother looking finish with more intense colors as they are made to blend..... Hope this helps
@@emmacolours2020 Thanks Emma, that does help. I have been too reluctant to try the 1 Oxide I have as I didn't know what it's characteristics were. I get line marks with the distress inks all the time. Karen of ZuchiniKitty makes it look so easy!

Have a practice with it on some blank card stock
And I have the Holbein’s and the Color Cubes. Again, I am a simple colorist and not very creative so I use the color cube palets for mandalas when I’m not using my Felissimo’s. 😉. We are a lot alike!

Baohong is lovely watercolor paper. Just be aware watercolor paper will go off over time so if you don't plan to use it anytime soon it's best to seal it in plastic and store it flat in a cool dry place.

That is wonderful of your Dad to buy you the pencils- you DESERVE THEM!!! I would love to hear more of your thought on them too! I also heard people love or hate them. Ive been dying to try them. And now Well, dying even more than before. i know they are different to other pencils, have heard several people say it. do they feel nicer than lumi (have them)?😂 i was planning on trying a few of the Holbein pencils open stock (singles are cheaper than luminance singles!). Just figuring out the colours 😑😂

I really enjoyed watching your video I appreciate that you buy all the stuff because it helps me make an informed choice when it comes to my own buying. I really want to try the spectrum noir pencils but feel I've missed the boat a bit. I really love my black widow pencils.

The Supracolors are fabulous pencils! I don't have the full set but I add a few every now and again. I am loving using them in my Maria Trolle and Johanna Basford books. I also prefer the Oxide. I got all of my brushes from Amazon or Temu, for the Oxides though. Because I have so many of them. I used tape to label both the brushes, and corresponding Oxide color, with numbers so I do use a separate brush for each color. I also got a ton of eye shadow applications from our Dollar Tree (dollar store) back when it was 1.00 per pack and not the 1.25. LOL. I would love to see you do this yearly. It was very interesting and FUN!!! I loved it! Having the furbabies in the video made it fun too. I love the Arrtx pencils too. MAN they are nice. I kinda wish you were closer as I would give you my Black Widows. I like them OK but I don't love them. And a lot of them are still brand new, some in the tin! LOL.

I love these vid. I too have a lot of coloring books colored pencils and markers. But you never know if say the electric goes out and no computer. Well then you have somthing to do. By candlelight color! I keep extra of stuff for bk up. Like coloring books dvds stuff like that. Great vid.

I also have the Crayola skin tones in the box, unused. I really do need to dig them out and at least give them a try on something. I just have become accustom to certain pencils to do skin with. I'm a creature of habit. 👽😄 I loved seeing all your stuff. I enjoyed it, and it you kept me company while I colored my picture this evening. Don't worry Emma, I haul a lot too and I think it's perfectly fine to "stockpile" both supplies and books, you never know for how long something will be available. And they have no expiration date 😁

I agree, nothing compares to prisma or polychromos or any other artist grade pencil. The fair comparison with "budget" pencils is to compare to other budget pencils. Just my 2 cents.

I love supply hauls. It gives me ideas. I just started to collect and use the Distress Inks by Ranger. I have the mini size which I like. My next task is to get the ink refills. I love different brands of coloring pencils also. My prize possession is my Prismas. Enjoyed the video. 👍👍💞💞🙏🏽🙏🏽

Hi Emma, I loved your video. Yay! I am not alone ! Boy, did your video ring some bells. Lol I must admit there is very little I don't use at least once. I rotate my pencil sets or use pencils from two or three sets at a time. I have a few distress inks. I love them I just need to practice how to use them.

If you put just the very tip of the Crayola pencils in Vaseline jelly, they work amazing. Otherwise I don’t use mine very often but I do love them.

Thank you for sharing your epic haul. Are the Pheonix pencils really not worth the hype? They are the only ones I would love to get as i collect Asian/Chinese items. I don't have many pencil sets.

Quite the opposite. I hope that someone who has an addiction to purchasing certain items sees this, and realizes the severity of it.
So many artists out there, can’t afford to buy one set to use. How happy they would be.
- I have never seen anyone with so many pencils.
I don’t know if she realizes that she will never use them. We fool ourselves so that we don’t have to feel guilty about our bad habit.
She, herself, said that she didn’t learn anything from showing the world all of her pencils.
She will continue on and on and on……
- It’s very sad. She must feel empty inside. I know from experience, that when there is a hole in your heart, one will often keep buying things to fill that emptiness.
- I wish for her, true peace and happiness.
And I pray that she looks up and perhaps says a prayer it two.
ps. - I’m very old now and I truly understand her. I have been there myself. And it’s hard to give it up. It takes many years and a willing to feel afraid when letting go of items.
We must find something to fill the void.

I bought the KUM long point sharpener as well, specifically for my Prisma blender because I wear it down incredibly fast (I love to use the technique of slapping down med/dark Prismas and then blending them across the space check out Julies passion for coloring if you don't know what I mean) and I thought the long point would keep me from having to sharpen it every five seconds... and I can't get it to work. It's not rocket science, it's two holes and they are even labelled but it just won't do what it's supposed to do. Maybe mine is defective, it would be my luck. I even tried breaking off the end of my pencil thinking perhaps the point it already had was the wrong angle or something.

Unfortunately I work a lot of overtime and spend said overtime on colored pencil as well as watercolor, alcohol ink, pastels, and mandala paint and all the papers and books associates which is just.. makes me so anxious. Lol hate the need to have!
The cubes and the beautiful Chinese pencils were a must tho! Come on now! No shame in those two (I got them too ;))
