walnut shells cause micro tears in the skin. i suggest you substitute with something else. it really doesn’t even benefit the skin. just adds texture. 😊
I love how positive you are in the comments and your videos Anne-Marie. It makes the videos even more fun to watch!
Thanks so much for your kind message, and thanks for watching the videos! So glad you enjoy them. =)

I made some of this and love it
I love this video. I'm about to start making my very first mask, but I have a question: Why was it necessary to add the preservative, if there was no water added to the ingredients?
I assume that the preservative is added because when you use it you need to use your hand to scoop it out. Your hand might be dirty or wet so that's why the preservative is needed.
I enjoy your videos. I always learn something from your videos and look forward to try the recipe.
Thank you so much Janice! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. =)
I love soap queen TV! My favorite RUclips channel ever. You deserve more subscribers!
Can you sub Rose clay for Rose powder?
Thank you for sharing. I would love to try this one.
Is Phenonip essential in this recipe as it contains no water?
It’s added because of the risk of water being introduced by the product user keeping it in their shower or removing from the container with wet hands.
Hi Dear ! I really loved your channel and i hope you would show us more videos about masks and scrubs ! Thanks💓
Ughhhh yes!!! Another video! Love you bae!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
So happy you like the video! =)
Hey there!
I was wondering what would be a good, natural substitute for the ground walnut shells? Also, I may have just missed it if you said in the video, but could you please tell me the yeild for this recipe?
Thank you so much! Love your channel 😄❤

Yes. definitely for men is a great idea.
Great video! I have made rose clay masks for years, but Ive always just make them up fresh with a teaspoon of clay and some oils. This look like a fab recipe! Its a beautiful exfoliating clay, but I add geranium rose and a bit of colloidal oatmeal too. Its super gorgeous after a day on the ski piste mixed with honey as well! hmmmmmm inspiration as I type - rose clay, colloidal oatmeal and geranium CP soap...!!! (can you tell I am soapaholic) :) cheers, Nadeen.
Your scrub recipe sounds amazing! Oatmeal is amazing for facial scrubs. Gentle with just a touch of scrubbiness. =)
Looks nice!! 😍😍😍
BB should sell this as a kit for people like myself that make homemade products for family only!!!!!

Doi have to add the preservative since there is no water included in the recipe?
I didn't know if there was a way that I could email you directly but I am a licensed massage therapist and I make homemade scrubs and lotions for my business to sell. Most of these have a pretty long shelf life. I would really like to start making face masks to sell as well. I was wondering if you might be able to point me in the right direction as far as making a mask that has a longer shelf life for my clients so I can sell and preserve. I have ingredients like apple cider vinegar, aloe vera gel, charcoal, bentonite clay, Etc. I just need to figure out how to put the two and two together to make a satisfying product. Thank you!
Hi Ashley, if you could email us at info@brambleberry.com with these questions we would be happy to help!
Can u teach peel off mask too. Plz
Loved the video !
Lol, but I really got into the background music
Isn't the music fun? Always makes me feel like dancing. =)
Mam if we don't have meadoufoam oil what another use please share in gram I don't understand oz please
hi.. if i omit phenonip.. what's the shelf life?
just depend upon how much water one gets inside of clay this could last up to a year if handled and stored properly
You have the best background music :)
I like it a lot too! Always makes me feel like dancing. =)
Thank you for sharing this recipe .
Would like to know does this mask dry or one just has to wash it off after 10 mins irrespective if it's dried or not. Thank you in advance
Looks wonderful!
It feels awesome! I hope you get a chance to try it out. =)
Cool thanks
I like this recipe, but where's our lovely host???? ;-)

So happy to hear that Lauren! =)
Can I use here fresh purée if I want like carrot puree
I like this one and simple to make. You might want to lower the music down a little its loud.
Can I use sodium benzote as preservative
I'm Pretty sure I can use this as a face mask.
can't wait to make this my cool peeps 😋😋😋🖖🖖🖖
Can the water be substituted for rose water or a different hydrosol?
Keep up the posting! I love it!
So glad you enjoyed the video! =)
I could be interested in this.
I have to say I have never attempted to make soap, and have no plans to do so any time soon. But I find these videos fascinating, and I'm digging your ginormous Pyrex measuring cup! :-)
stringendo1 Hi there!
That's awesome, so glad you like the videos! Thanks for watching. Also, isn't that measuring container fun? =)
Phenoxyethonol and phenonip are they one or they are different preservative?
Thanks for the help!!!!!

Hi Anne-Marie. Can I use Lotus Extract in place of Evening Primrose Extract

You are so welcome! Glad you like the video. =)
hello how did you preserve it??
if dont have meadowfoam oil and evening primrose extract, what can I use instead? thanks
can phenoxy ethanol be used instead of phenonip?
Hi can you tell me how long you would leave the mask on for? thanks
I miss the old videos :(
Hi Sharon!
This video is a Soap Queen short, which is typically an easy recipe done in a shorter amount of time. We will still have longer videos in the future though! =)
***** Hi Ann-Marie - I'd love to order and make this scrub! Can you tell me how long a person would leave this on the face for? Say 15 minutes? I haven't made scrubs before..do you think these could be stored in zip lok bags or should I purchase some jars to store it in?
If there is no water added, then why the phenonip?
sapphireblue222 omg that's the same question I have... Or why didn't she use one of the other lighter preservatives that don't have parabens?? Maybe she answered that question further down in the comments!!
sapphireblue222 ok she did answer she said that she used the phenonip to be extra safe! She said that even though there is no water in the recipe, that people may use this in the shower so water may get into it and cause bacteria to grow.. She also said that the other lighter preservatives would work just fine!
TopshelfNya313 Thanks for answering! :) Very helpful.
Hi... i am interested in in doing this mask and I was wondering if I could change the Argan oil by red raspberry seed oil since my skin is normal to dry but I am dehydrated on forehead area and I have a light periorbital dermatitis. Any advice on it?
Thanks in advance
How long can this without last preservative
Omg I love ur channel I can't believe u replied ur awesome but some questions how much does the clays cost also why 3 months
Lovely, but doesn't adding oils to the clay defeat the purpose? I mean clays in masks absorb excess oil from skin, but adding oils to the mask itself may hinder the kaolinclay's oil-reducing benefit. idk. awesome vid though. :)
can we add witch hazel instead of phenonip
This video really helped thank you
You are so welcome Naziyah!
Can I substitute the walnut shell powder with flaxseed powder?
That isn't an ingredient we have tried before but it should absolutely work!
Thanks. Can I replace the Phenonip with Liquid Germall Plus?
do you have a recipe that you can put in a twist up tube
Wow that's awesome!!!!(;!!!
Your always creative thanks for having time and demonstrating us new Technics's💞😘
Hello, what other oils would work well in this. Eg. maybe olive & avocado ????
Jacqui Darbyshire Olive or avocado oil would feel great! They are nice and moisturizing. =)
Olive oil: www.brambleberry.com/Olive-Oil-Pure-P5246.aspx
Avocado oil: www.brambleberry.com/Avocado-Oil-P3198.aspx
I thought it was ketchup! HAHAHAHA
Another awesome short, Anne-Marie! Keep it up!
It does look a bit like ketchup! Thanks for watching Frances, glad you like the video. =)
i wish you carried a 8 oz jar version of the 4 oz.
Hi, I was wondering what else can be substituted for the preservative? thank you ;)
+Wansada yaker Hi there!
If you're looking for another preservative to use, Optiphen would work well in this recipe! Optiphen is paraben and formaldehyde free, and can be used at .5-1.5% in this recipe.
Optiphen: www.brambleberry.com/Optiphen-P3682.aspx
We chose to use a preservative in this recipe to be extra careful. Although the recipe doesn't contain water, it will likely be stored in the shower and will get water splashed into it. That water can cause mold and bacteria growth. However, the preservative is optional! You can leave it out if you like. Just make sure to store your mask in an airtight container, and try to keep it away from water as much as possible. Also, without a preservative, the shelf life will likely be shorter - probably about 9 months or so. =)

What would be a good substitute for the walnut shells if someone had a nut allergy?
That's an excellent question! I'd not thought of that!
I guess the walnut shells are there for exfoliant so I'm thinking you could use like sugar if you would like because on other body scrubs the use sugar
Hi Angela!
Tiffany is correct! Sugar would be a great substitute for the walnut shells. Pumice would be another great option. I'll include some more exfoliant options below. =)
Exfoliants: www.brambleberry.com/Exfoliants-C158.aspx
Hi! If I wanna avoid the phenonip how long would the shelf life of this product be? also could I replace the Evening Primerose extract for the oil? Thanks a lot!
Hi Pablo!
Without a preservative, the shelf life will depend on how much water gets into the product. It should be a couple months to a year or so. =)
Also, you can definitely leave the extract out if you like. If you use the extract in place of the oil, it will change the consistency of the batch. Extracts tend to be thinner and not give as much of a silky feeling as the oil. A small test batch may be helpful for you. =)
Can you use any other preservative. I have optiphen. And in what proportion?
Alka Chopra Hi Alka!
Optiphen would work great in this recipe! You can use it at .5-1.5% in your recipe. =)

Yay another video!
I know I said in another video that I wasn't planning on making soap but.... This just looks like too much fun, I have to try it!
P.s, why did you add phenonip?
It's a preservative that helps to prevent bacterial, fungal, and mold growth.
I have the same question as Terra Nova. There is no water in the INCI of this mask so I do not understand the need of a preservative. Is there any other reason, other than external contamination when using fingers to scoop the mask out of the container, for using it? Would some vitamin E or oils rich in vitamin E be a better option than a preservative in this case? Thanks for the recipe and for your answer if you find/have the time.
Hi Terra Nova, Rose Tyler and Pikulalla Lalla!
That's a great question! While this recipe doesn't contain water, it will likely be used in the shower. This means it may get water splashed into it. We decided to be extra careful and add a preservative. You can read more in the Talk It Out Tuesday: Preservatives post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/talk-it-out-tuesday-preservatives/
***** Thanks so much for the link! I've shared it on Pinterest because I've seen so very many people say Vitamin E Oil is a preservative... I honestly did not know that it wasn't! Such great info in that article!!
Thank you Soap Queen TV, I will read the information in the link.
Is there a difference from evening primrose extract and evening primrose oil? Are there any alternatives?
Hi Keci!
Evening primrose oil is thicker than the extract, and is usually used in higher quantities. Using the oil in this recipe would make the recipe more liquidy and have a more oily feel. The evening primrose extract is thinner and typically used at 1 tsp. per pound of product.
You can definitely use another extract if you like! We have a lot of great options. You can read more in the Sunda Night Spotlight: Extracts: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/sunday-night-spotligh-extracts/
Awesomeness! Thanks a bunches!
which skin type?
is the rose clay same as rose petal powder plus Kaoline clay?
Chintan Ghelani i think rose clay is a milder form of Kaolin clay dyed pink
I have never heard of rose clay. Does it have any special benefits that set it apart from other clays?
She's been using it a lot lately! Wonder if it's something new because I'd not heard of it until recently either.
Hello!
That's a great question! Rose clay is a mild clay that gently exfoliates and helps clean your skin. I also love the soft pink color it has. =)
Rose clay: www.brambleberry.com/Rose-Clay-P5112.aspx
Can i skip the preservative phenonip? It does not have water so why a preservative ? Thank you!
Hello!
That's a great question! While this recipe doesn't contain water, it will likely be used in the shower. This means it may get water splashed into it. We decided to be extra careful and add a preservative. If you prefer, you can leave the preservative out of this recipe.
You can read more in the Talk It Out Tuesday: Preservatives post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/talk-it-out-tuesday-preservatives/
Phenonip prevents bacteria, mold, and Fungai because it's facial clay mask, some masks have these three things when Phenonip isn't in nor added in the ingredients so it's best to have Phenonip around.
Can you make a video of making hand sanitiser please?
Hi Craigpelias!
Thanks so much for that suggestion! The FDA considers hand sanitizer a drug. This means any hand sanitizer recipes have to be tested and regulated by the FDA, which can be tricky! If you do want to make hand sanitizer, I would encourage you to check the FDA's website, fda.gov. =)
Okay thanks:)
What benefits
can optiphen be substituted for phenonip?
It can! Optiphen would work well in this recipe. You can use it at .5-1.5%. =)
Optiphen: www.brambleberry.com/Optiphen-P3682.aspx
what skin types is this good for?
This mask is suitable for all skin types! The oils help moisturize the skin and the clays help draw out impurities. That being said, everyone's skin is different. What works for one person may not work for another.
I would recommend making a small test batch of the scrub and trying it on your skin! If you find it's a bit too drying, you can add more oil. If it's a bit too moisturizing, you can add more clay. =)
How to use it?
Where do you guys actually get the ingredients from or where are they sourced?
Hi William!
That depends on the products! Some we get locally here in Washington, while others are sourced all over the world. =)
At wholesale online? If so any particular company that you like for that?
Usually they're from her brambleberry store/brand thing.
William Phillips VanillaResidue is correct! You can find all the ingredients at brambleberry.com. They're sold at wholesale prices. =)
Hello I am from Portugal , how can I get products to manufacture ?
Hi Antonio!
You can find all our products and prices at brambleberry.com. Also, great news - we ship to Portugal! You can find more information in our international shipping policies: www.brambleberry.com/International-Shipping-Policies.aspx
*****
Hello, thank you for your response. Can you please confirm if there are any maximum value of purchases that you have to pay the custom house?
will the clay absorbe the oil?
The clay and oil combine to create a paste, but the clay does not dry out the oil. It will stay a thick, paste texture =)
I made the clay, but when I put it my face the clays crumble and was not evenly on my face. Was it too much oil?
Where can you get the ingredients
You can find everything you need at Brambleberry.com.
y its turn orange from red
can i sell this?
When is the new video 😲😲😰
whats the shelf life??
Sunny Rahman she says one year
did you say Rose
I love Roses
Hi Jojo!
This recipe uses rose clay, which gives it the awesome burgundy color. =)
Rose clay: www.brambleberry.com/Rose-Clay-P5112.aspx
using metal to mix clays...tsk tsk
Anne Marie this doesn't sound like you. But still love with video
+hamm1998 Voice overs can definitely sound different than talking on camera! So glad you love the video. Thanks for watching. =)
Why did you talk funny in this video
evon reegan Sorry you felt that way! Hopefully you found the video helpful. =)
I don't like the music
Hi Chiara!
I'm sorry you're not a fan of the music! I like that it's fun and upbeat. It always gets me in the mood to craft. =)
I agree, trying to listen to instructions and the music is making it difficult.
Can I use OPTIPHEN as the preservative? Is the only thing I have on hand right now.
+ZHLcreativity yes you can use optiphen. As long as it's a preservative you can use it. That's actually the preservative I prefer
Hi ZHLcreativity!
Kim is correct! You can use Optiphen at .5-1.5% in this recipe. =)
