I'm brand new to Linux, just started using it about a week ago on 2 donor HP laptops that the previous owner couldn't remember the Windows passwords for, (and even if he could, they were both Windows 8, 'nuff said). After a bit of distro hopping, I ultimately settled on Linux Mint, so videos like this are a big help.
I am watching this on my laptop running Mint 21.2. Its fantastic. Especially on my Thinkpad T440p with nvidia gpu. The hybrid graphics switching is fantastic. The new gestures are quite helpful even though I often don't use them. Its just so fast, easy, lovely distro and they constantly improve. I love it!
Superb video. Well presented, informative but concise. Before you switch I think you should wait to see how good LMDE 6 will. Debian + Mint is a strong combination. Mint not my daily driver, but you make a good case for it with the refinements raised. However, you rarely criticise ANY Linux distro which makes your reviews problematic if you see them all as good ~ they are not. Having used LMDE especially I know how good Mint can be, but I”ll take a lot of convincing to move from vanilla Debian 12, although LMDE 6 and the pending MX Linux release will be hugely awaited.
I recently went back to Linux, tried a bunch of distros (Debian 12, PopOS, Chimera, Fedora and Manjaro) and PopOS was by far the best experience, almost everything worked without hassle. None of the distros has managed to put my monitor to sleep (black but not off) and if the pc goes to sleep you need to pull the wall outlet… I used Gnome in all of them, so perhaps it could be a gnome issue… Ryzen 3600 Radeon 5700xt Gigabyte b550m aorus elite Works flawlessly in windows so I rule out a hardware issue.
I sat and counted the seconds till you said Gorgeous.... You say every desktop is Gorgeous. You didnt say it. This must be the first video ever 😂. I actually enjoyed it too 😅 Well done
I demo'd it today and I like it but I can't do something simple like setup my second monitor. Surely there is someone out there that has a solution but I found none, sad face.
Mint user here. I'm happy with the new changes, but like always I'll wait a few months before making the upgrade. Mint is a great distro though, its super simple to use even for a LInux noob, but also super polished.
I was running Mint until 2 months ago when I switched from an 11th gen Intel to a 13th gen. I figured Mint's older kernel would have issues with the way the new Intel cpus work so I opted for Debian 12 instead. If the newest Mint works fine with the latest Intel hardware, I might give it a try.
I know, it's been a month since you posted, but there's no way I can let this one go unanswered. Linux Mint has a kernel manager, so you officially have access to the 5.19* and 6.1.* series kernels
@@elvis.vinicius I had been running Mint on an 11th gen cpu and checked the kernel manager which only showed the 5.19 series at the time. I'm guessing the 6.1 series was added after my hardware switch. Currently using the 6.5.3-1 kernel without any issues. I do wish Mint used kernels that were a bit closer to the current ones available.
Last year I bought 2 laptops, one HP, one Asus, with Intel processors and Intel HD graphics and I was distrohopping a lot. Tried many Linux distros and only one that worked flawlessly out of the box was Manjaro KDE Edition. I used it until recently when new updates keeps crashing over and over again. Some problems with keyring. So I started distrohopping again. Tried EndevaourOS KDE Edition which worked even better than Manjaro but recent update from pulse audio to pipewire messed up a sound. Every time I boot up a system volume increases to the max even if I kept it at 50%. Only when I moved a slider it came back to normal. It annoyed me and I then tried PopOS and find it very ugly and buggy, so I moved to Kubuntu 23.04 and I encountered same problem with sound and couple of app crashes, so I installed Ubuntu 23.04 again problem with sound. After that I tried Ubuntu 22.04.02 and after two clean installs it experienced internal error. Than I installed Debian 12.1 KDE Edition and desktop kept crashing every minute or so. So I hopped to Debian 12.1 Gnome Edition and it was ok but I am not a fan of Gnome at all. Only Gnome that looks great is Ubuntu's. So I tried Kubuntu 22.04.02 and it works fine. Now I will try Linux Mint to see how it works. I must say that these days many Linux distros have huge problems and bugs. Is it a problem with low quality of developers or a rush to implement new features... Btw I tried MX Linux also and it works flawlessly but it has very old software repositories.
This and Cinnamon are a deal breaker for me due to gaming. All else being equal, I get noticeable stuttering in the games I play in Cinnamon that disappears with Gnome or KDE (though KDE had separate stability problems when I last tried it). It's unfortunate, because otherwise I'd be fully on board with Mint and Cinnamon. As-is, it's only something I'd recommend to non-gaming PC users like my parents.
In the update manager you can update the kernel to 6.2 or something and it does it all without a single line command in terminal 👍and if it is doesn't work select the previous kernal in grub menu and then uninstall the latest one. To be honest latest and greatest driver doesn't made a huge performance difference. Right now I'm using 6.2 or something I didn't remember exactly what the number was
how can we color calibrate in linux mint? is there any way? I have tried displaycal but it doesn't support all the functionality to calibrate properly.
I used Linux Mint for several years years, and Linux for over 25 years, so I a no amateur. But I recently upgraded to version 21.2 from 21.1 which ran flawlessly. BOY WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! I just can not believe such a long time reputable company could release such a disastrous mess!! Sure, it has a lot of new good points, but they are all useless if your OS will NOT RUN because other older well known features no longer work, or barely work. With any version of 21.2 (Mate, Cinnamon, etc, tried them all) )the sound is completely broken and barely audible (even sound booster extensions make no difference, with ANY browser. ALSA will never turn on, manually or otherwise), the video runs only at lowered frame rates (my smart TV used as monitor was running 60 FPS, now will only do 30 FPS), the internet speeds run slower, (my Spectrum 368 MBPS is now just 250 MBPS), securer boot does not work, Bluetooth is seriously screwed up (again), and numerous other small glitches I will not bother to mention, but which I did not have before upgrade. Of course I went to the board and the internet (using my phone which still worked!) looking for solutions and I discovered literally thousands of similar complaints. So at least I was not alone. Luckily I had a timeshift backup so I restored my old 21.1 system and again my computer worked fine. But this is the last straw with Linux Mint. it still looks old and nothing like mac or windows in terms of any transparency or colors or the two combined, so to me at least it still doesn't look all that great or really hardly any different than before.
I used Debian for years, but I required an Ubuntu base to get the fingerprint reader working on my new laptop, so I used LM Cinnamon for 2 years and absolutely loved it. The only hassle was that the screen-saver immediately locked Keepassxc (should be locked after the lock time) and it was such a pain that I ended up installing Plasma (that worked) then I decided it would make more sense to install Kubuntu. Keepassxc stated 'desktop env needs to send the appropriate dbus signal based on freedesktop org standards' so it would appear to be a Cinnamon bug (Debian 12 Cinnamon has same problem). I'm getting on really well with Kubuntu, but I might be tempted back to LM if that Cinnamon issue is ever fixed; it is a magnificent creation!

Yeah, the Mate edition falls short, the composition manager stinks, and Steam doesn't play well with Nvidia and Marco+composition. Had to install Picom. Don't really like Cinnamon what's so ever.
That's all well and good, but when will _any_ version of Linux remember where an application's window last opened and reopen it in the same place? Do that, and I'm in. I'm tired of having to reposition every new app from the upper-left corner to where I need it to be.
Yes, Linux is a very good operating system. However, Linux does not open my game on Windows, but even if it does, it opens at low fps. I use Revios now, I don't need to license Windows and I'm not being tracked by Microsoft.
I'm going to a few Linux sites to let people know one thing about Linux I've had experience with. I'm an Amateur radio operator (Ham) I run Linux focal OS built for Hams I was at the Microsoft website and got a DDoS on my computer which said it was locked, I simply power the computer down waited a few minutes rebooted no problems the computer came back on so the story about Linux is true it's safe from these types of attacks. I also run Manjaro Linux on another computer with no problems.
Should have (1) a better login screen showing user image as in zorin, deepin and (2) graphical boot menu that shows boot options (show only os like windows and linux. To select other options in boot menu, ask to press some keys).

i have been using linux for past 3 years know some basic things like how to install some apps through teminal extensions etc but now I want to learn linux in very detail so which linux will you recommend me for that
Bluetooth game controllers now automatically act as mice ... with very poor control and unwanted movements. So, you have to kill BT (using only the keyboard) to get control of the machine back. Most BT game controllers are now unusable. Hopefully they fix it soon.

There is no Flatpak option in my software manager. what should I do. I upgraded from 21.1 to 21.2.
The only Distro with good ui design is ZorinOS.
Mint and other have terrible design. The font and app icons looks like old android app icons.
I actually switched BACK to 21.1 after a seemingly innocuous update crashed the whole system and it wouldn't restart.
I tried it in a VM and I love it, even though it's a bit overloaded. It's great for Linux noobies, like me and even for my parents.
I have used Linux mint for over 5 years. Though LM 21 has had issues and I have not switched as yet. Fast search has been a feature even on 20.x
I saw everything you pointed out but heard only about 20%. Which talking speed race did you win?
Hi,
can You tell me, where is taken a wallpaper photo in 4:57 ? Thank You.
I just want it to not look like its a skin over windows xp
I'm going to a few Linux sites to let people know one thing about Linux I've had experience with. I'm an Amateur radio operator (Ham) I run Linux focal OS built for Hams I was at the Microsoft website and got a DDoS on my computer which said it was locked, I simply power the computer down waited a few minutes rebooted no problems the computer came back on so the story about Linux is true it's safe from these types of attacks. I also run Manjaro Linux on another computer with no problems.
I would go with mint only if they stick with the lts ubuntu base instead of just switching every 3 years to update.
Should have (1) a better login screen showing user image as in zorin, deepin and (2) graphical boot menu that shows boot options (show only os like windows and linux. To select other options in boot menu, ask to press some keys).
I wish I could understand you.
Thanks awesome video sound like me excited to see what you can do with Linux mint.I had an old laptop 12 years old to start with had a recall on the charger would not handle the power after 2 years trying to figure out why it was always shutting down so i got a new charger.then it got bad with microsoft it keep freezing so bad i went and got a new HP laptop .then i seen a video from Chris Titus how to save an old computer with linux got rid of microsoft and put linux on my old laptop and works great love Linus totally awesome.Wow seems like a book i am writing lol just want to say I love linux mint which i use as a more or less newby to linux

how to fix high cpu usage in linux mint while watching youtube video online
on browser.
i want linux mint gnome version, i install desktop enviroment but dont work good, i like linux mint because is smooth and stable
The most important for me is usability and constant support for the OS. And Linux Mint is the closest outside of Windows/Mac ecosystem.
can you link the wallpaper please?
Been using Mint for years, I never even noteced the changes to the visuals on the icons! Not an important change for me!
Bluetooth game controllers now automatically act as mice ... with very poor control and unwanted movements. So, you have to kill BT (using only the keyboard) to get control of the machine back. Most BT game controllers are now unusable. Hopefully they fix it soon.
Did they fix the glitchy menu yet? that's been broken for the last 4 releases.
Failed to upgrade to Victoria, had to use Timeshift to fix it ( not an old potato PC ).
