also take in account face shape. if you have a round face then take square glasses and if you have a square/triangle face then take rounder glasses.

Actually incorrect, because this method doesn't take into account the lug width (those are the bits at the end of the front that connect it to the temples). The lugs can account for 10-20mm, so are pretty significant.
The lens width X2 + bridge is NEVER the total width of the glasses.
