  • At 3,925 feet of elevation, Morena Butte is a series of three "peaklets" that comprise the mountain found on the "100 peaks" list for San Diego county. In addition to having some of the best backcountry views in the county, Morena Butte has a rich history in San Diego county, as it was home to Charles Hatfield's "rain-making" experiment for the Morena Reservoir in 1916, and now is a rumored paranormal spot. The hike to the peak traverses the PCT for the first three miles, before transitioning up a rugged trail to the top. For the adventurous, the northeast summit has the best views as seen in the video.
