Do you purposely pick the least likely songs to translate into Synthwave? Seriously every single time I think the song will be missing something when I see your uploads, but in the end you just add so much more to them. I'm really blown away by your talent dude. I can't fathom the amount of time and effort you put into these.
Hahaha! Thank you so much. Honestly I try not to think about it too much and just go with my gut. But I do often chose songs that I think might be a little unexpected. I heard Dustin Kensrue once say that he just picks songs he loves singing and hopes that you’ll feel that passion and excitement he has. So that whether you love the song or not, you might love the moment. I’ve always loved that idea.
Thank you for checking out this cover! All of my social links, and ways you can support me are in the video description. If you enjoyed this cover please consider subscribing and sharing my work. It helps more than you can ever imagine and I cannot thank you enough.
Awesome job. It’s always a bright spot to see when you release a new song. You are super talented and clearly work hard at your craft. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! There’s actually a little bit of both in there. :) Cash made a small lyric change that I liked and there was some chordal changes that I enjoyed from his version which I went with in mine. (which is why I credited both artists)
Man, ok, real talk right now.... I hated 80's music as a teen (I'm 39 now) but slowly over the years, I've began to develop more of a taste for that era of music (from pop, euro, and rock of the 80's) to the point where it dominated my playlists... The movie "Drive" (by Nicolas Winding Refn featuring Ryan Gosling) had a perfect soundtrack for the style of movie it was, and I found myself searching for that type of music, which has slowly shown me the door to Synthwave. This genre, and it's counterparts, have become a new phase in my musical evolution of enjoyment. Overall, I prefer a female vocalist for this genre, but dude, let me tell you... You are absolutely doing a spectacular job at reinventing some of these classic songs, and your voice meshes really well with the choices also. I still appreciate all genres music -- from Rock, to Classical, to Classic Big Band, to Ska/Punk, Alternative and everything in between (except for country, but I'm a massive Johnny Cash fan) -- so I can appreciate the rock-esque tones that your vocals bring to each project. Ultimately, I'm incredibly impressed, and quite frankly shocked that you haven't developed more of a fanbase from those talents! Keep the hustle going Patrick, even if this music is destined to be your "midnight mistress" to another career; because surely you are still inspiring people and bringing people peace and tranquility, even if only for a moment. The pandemic/lockdowns cost me everything. I lost my home, had to move in with my wife and two little girls in with my mother-in-law (tiny townhome), I was losing my business (events industry), zero paychecks for over a year, driving our cars back to their respective dealerships and handing over the keys, then my wife decided to end our marriage after being together for 10 years only a few short months after I was arrested for attempting to jump off an overpass bridge to end the depression and suffering of it all. This genre, and by proxy, artists like yourself have provided me a relief and a getaway, rather than turning to suicide again, or drugs & alcohol. So, thank you for giving me a moment to escape into your music, brother. Side note: I would love it if you could try to find the time to make a cover (in your own authentic style, of course) of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence" and/or Audioslave's "Shadow of the Sun."
Thank you so much! I’m glad to have been a help even unknowingly. I truly wish you nothing but success and healing for your future. I’ll definitely give those tracks a listen! Cheers.
now that song i know. that said do songs need special requirements so they work as synth? I imagine power metal is tricky to transform, bc its so fast and powerful.
Definitely. Some songs work much better than others. Synthwave is generally slower to mid tempo songs. To fast and it start to sound like other dance music styles.
@@PatrickRussellMusic i have no musical training, so I wouldnt know where to start with picking a song! but youre good at it. looking forward to the next.
He has a great voice and as an added bonus he is a hottie. What I would let him do to me is not suitable to describe on YT. Not that he would want to touch me with a ten foot barge pole. There is a reason I use the bear pride flag as my avatar.
The timing of the lyrics is the only thing that throws me off with this cover. The vocals are great but the timing of the lyrics in certain parts like the last couple lines right before the first chorus are just weirdly timed.
That’s why Cash is credited alongside NIN. The vocal arrangement is closer to his version rather than NIN since it’s the version I’m most used to with some slight modifications based on what I preferred.
@@PatrickRussellMusic no, nin is far closer to Cash's version. The lyrical timing is fairly closer. This guy had a run-on verse to the chorus and it sounds off. I like the synth sound it's the lyrical placement that's fuckin with me.

This is seriously underrated, this fucks. Please do more! Maybe even do your own Nightcall cover for a milestone!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I could listen to these versions a million times a day and never be bored !
Oh you wonderful human you.

Thank you very much Ian!
Wow, this song really suits your voice! It sounds so powerful and emotional. I absolutely love it
You're *synth*esizing great songs to amazing songs 🔥🔥🔥

I love the original and this cover is even better, amazing stuff!
Thank you!
Man this is incredible!
Thank you!
Man that was really on point. Well done 👍
Thank you!
Wow, amazing! People usually cover the Johnny Cash version, but this is an awesome adaption of the original!

Why am I just now finding this, you deserve more than this world has to offer TwT
Thank you! You’re too kind.
Absolutely mindblowing! Loved it! 11/10 🙌🏻⚜
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it.
omfg... of course you choose this song to do... and destroy me lol
This song has that effect for sure. Cash’s version always breaks me.

Excellent job Mr Russell.
Thank you!
A fresh and pleasant addition to a history of covers, thankyou.
Thank you for the kind words!
Wonderful performance, friend!
Thank you!
Wow! This is amazing!! So happy you did this song.
Thank you! Me too! I've wanted to do this one for a few years admittedly. Felt like the time was right.
Very interesting cover. Love synth wave so this one hits the ears great. More covers of this song need the strong vocals like this one. Great job.
Thank you so much!
Goddamn great. Like always.
Thank you so much!
Great work, amazing vocal performance dude!
Thank you so much!
Probably one of the best songs ever written imo. Fantastic work as always dude!
Thank you Alex!

Don't know the orignal but love this version a lot. I'm convinced you have Midas' touch haha
Aww thanks! I love adding a least a little sax where I can

This should have been in one of the endings of Cyberpunk 2077
Again … nice 🎧
Thanks again!
So someone took a look at my Spotify playlist
👀
You should do Blessed Be by Spiritbox!
Oh believe me.... it’s on the list
WOW. this is crazy good. You should be illegal

Whats it feel like to have the voice of a God
Lol! Oh breaker. Hope you’re well dude

Damn Pat you are hot and a great singer. Please do Under The Ivy by Kate Bush as I would love to hear your interpretation of the song.
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll give it a listen.
@@PatrickRussellMusic I suggested it as I think you could add a slightly darker level to it and that is in a good way.

goodbye, pikamee
omg you so need to do a Tool song.... LOL
Definitely had a few requests for that. It would be a challenge to negotiate odd time signatures but it’s something I’d like to try one day for sure!
In 2077 what makes a depressed person? Getting lied to....
Feeling down and being depressed are not the same thing sweetie.

@TheHellKnight sorry it’s messing with ya. Just doing what felt good for me.
@@PatrickRussellMusic no, I respect that. It wasn't the worse cover I've ever hear. Try anything done by guns n roses. That'll make your ears bleed.
