I love the fact that you guys are using steel to case the phone in the package. It looks awesome and sturdy. The design of the new phone also looks great in my opinion. Can't wait to have it in hand!
you guys take the nast addictive and extremely unhelathy elements out of "the smartphone" but still make the thing so damn sexy and cool and nice. That's your damn usp and it's awesome. Love it!
It's not subsidized with bloatware, carrier deals, mass ordering parts and is independently designed/developed. Everyone is used to cheap and forgot quality will cost you.
@@Daclwn it has a whole suite of tools that make it not a burner phone. This is the opposite end of the "get what you pay for" spectrum. Storage expansion is the only thing missing. I think being able to load music onto it and being able to get rid of another subscription would be nice. I don’t even know if it supports Spotify but would be nice
I don’t get the purpose of the case other than packaging. Is it really meant to just be used for pens or whatever? Not sure I like the extra stuff when we all have too much stuff. Unless I’m mistaken and it serves another purpose I’d prefer a more eco friendly/minimalist package.
I think they maybe needed something more protective than cardboard, and opted for something sturdy and reusable to do the job rather than lots of plastic.
I would get one but I rely on authentication apps/email to get onto sites. Also all my banking is done through apps. Great looking phone though, maybe one day.
We don't have any tangible update to share regarding video calling options for Light Phone III yet, that feature will not be available for day one launching though, just to make sure that was clear. We do hope to have some options in the future though!
It will not be available immediately when the phone begins to ship, it may come in the future, that's something that's been an ongoing conversation but do want to be realistic about that expectation. Sorry if that was not made more clear
I saw a post where Kai said there was ‘promising’ progress with beeper, hearing ‘may’ now is dissapointing. Ill see whether ill keep it in the long term, thanks for responding though, big fan of you guys.
Honestly, it reminds me of the phones from the movie her 2013 . It just happens to be the perfectly executed pice of minimalistic engineering. i really hope it would support persian language as well (please?)
Not significant difference realistically in price, but certainly not the cheapest phone packaging either. We felt a nice USB-C cable was an important thing to include with the phone, we do appreciate that feedback and we can certainly keep that in mind, maybe there is an option for simpler packaging in future for those that don't want a cable or toolbox
@@LoserGopher have to clarify this since alot of people got confused Im not calling it dumb in general its a dumb phone since it has only basic options like a burner phone Hence "Dumb phone" like how some are called "smart phones" Also 600?!
@@Daclwn Its a dumbphone with premium parts and support. If you prefer a cheap dumbphone that's good too. Curious if in market research you determined only wealthy people are moving to simpler phones. This pivot to luxury is wonderful eye-candy, but it is prohibitively expensive for what it technologically offers. Instead of following the light, it looks like another promising project has followed the cash
Surely we could have worked with cheaper packaging, but that is hardly a significant factor in the price of the phone in the scheme of all things considered for what it's worth
Is anyone else starting to believe this is just smoke and mirrors? I would love to be wrong. The phone was supposed to be released Q3 last year. After it was delayed, the website says the first of the orders were supposed to go out in January 2025. The most recent blog states orders will be going out later this year. Working prototype demos have been very limited and all we are seeing now is packaging and accessory development?!
They have clearly stated that it has been delayed by two months because of the certification process taking longer than expected and because the factory in which it is being produced has time off because of the Chinese new year, but that they're on track for all orders to be fulfilled by April at the latest. The reason they're showing the packaging now is because they're finished with the phone itself. Two days ago they released a blog post with sample images from the camera, and the next update will be focused on the OS itself.

Can you install apps without logging into lightphone servers?
You cannot install apps. Punto e basta!
I’ve been waiting forever to see the quality of the photos and videos. I can’t drop 1k Australian on this without actually seeing the actual output.
When is this available
Great. I want you guys to create a second phone company that has swappable keyboard and gameboy-like modules for a phone on portrait mode.
