What's holding you back from making that decision? I'll be filming some follow up videos, so be sure to let me know if there's something you'd like me to know more about! 😊
So happy for you mate. I was studying for my finances degree and i had to serve 6 months in the military (its mandatory here in greece) . Soon i'll go full time photography and videography. Im growing my photography channel in order to have some passive income and maybe grow it later for it to become my main source of income. Its small right now but the community of 3k people i have gathered is something so hearthwarming and makes everything worth it
I'm afraid of being not able to pay my rent. I'm afraid of standing in front of my camera and no longer being myself... Turning into a censored human being that trying not to confront anyone😅 And now I'm realizing that it feels super difficult to surround myself with other photographers or content creators nearby in Switzerland... It's just like you said. Unknown paths are uncomfortable. 😂
Hi Anthony, Wow, the synchronicity of how the universe works is crazy. I been dabbling in photography since I was a kid. I would take my parents Polaroid camera and play with lighting and stuff, then get yelled at for using all the film in it. I kept taking pics, going from nature to some portrait work. Upgrading my camera and lenses when I could. Then Covid hit and I lost my creative spark. Lately I been feeling the urge to pull out the camera and start up again, but where do I start? Just today I quit college because it was not my cup of tea. I already have one degree so its not like its the end of the world. Then 5 minutes later I stumbled across your RUclips channel. I am obsessed! Thank you for re-igniting the creative camera spark in me. I look forward to more of your content. Keep doing what you are doing! Cheers Malcolm
Was waiting for this one! It’s been great following your journey the past few years. You really have grown so much as a creator! Cannot wait to see where you’re at this time again next year!!
Beautiful story. I'm trying to do something along these lines. I'm in camera retail setting money aside to begin my life and chase sharing my experiences with the world just like you. Reaping the benefits of being in a camera store to more easily access my photo/video desires in the near future. Big ups on the video here really like it.
The moment I saw your thumbnail from a notification that said I quit I thought why is this man with quit this content creating but I have watched like 15 seconds and just realised that you are talking about your job not about the content creating, by the way your content is an absolute greatness of things I love you very much Keep going, (im not english)
This video is truly inspirational. A friend and I, have recently decided we are pulling the trigger on a photography business/content creation, and are giving ourselves a 2 year timeline to get it up to a fulltime job for us so we can quit our regular jobs. Money is of course one of the major things holding us back as im sure it is for most people. Slowly but surely we'll push through that, cant wait to see where we end up!
I watched your video and I love your honesty. Believing in yourself and surrounding with the right people are the key to your path. I am excited for more of your success. I am a cancer survivor and just starting photography as my new hobby. I learned from your style. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for this. It came in at the right time. I recently resigned from my 9-5 job on the 28th of July to take on a path of content creating
The main thing holding me back (with careers in general) is confidence. I always second guess myself and end up not pursuing things in the end. The second thing is, I listen to toxic people too much (this is changing very quickly as I am tired of it) and that compounds #1. The last thing is money. Having a small business that I recently decided to shut down, I have learned a lot of what not to do's, and it is frustrating moving forward with all this in mind. But the one thing that is making sense for me at this moment is the photography industry and it is a complete 180 from my skillset but I have never had more clarity than I have now. This video is very inspiring, and I did see it at the right moment. I need to find that community you spoke of to build a support team. RUclips videos like this act as my support team and education in one (as silly as that sounds) so thank you for committing not only for yourself, but for others as well. FWIW
You and me both, finding that community seems like an uphill battle where I live, most my friends I've had most my life but all are invested in the same things of drinking, partying and not really doing much outside their 9-5 life. I want time and I want to spend more time with the people close to me. I've shut down my own small marketing agency with a transition into photo/video and taking a lot of the same things that small business taught me. But confidence is huge and the mountain seems harder and harder to climb as more and more people take this leap. Here's hoping you reach the mountain!
Thank you so much for sharing your story Anthony! I am in a similar boat on pursing to become a full-time creator. Hearing your story really helps out!
What an amazing story, and both motivating and relatable! The reason I ended up doing in photography full time was during covid (I moved across Canada/went to remote work to our ON office for a mountain bike company I loved)....anyways they wanted me back in the physical office which was 2.5hrs away and I said no thanks. Then got fired. Instead of picking up another full time job I just thought why not give photography a go since I'm doing it anyways! Not saying it's been easy at all becoming a business owner and learning all the ins and outs as you mentioned but I'm certainly glad looking back on the last 1.5 years all the experiences and people I've met along the way that I just went for it. So cool to hear your journey and where you've ended up at this point in time and the teamwork and friendships that have helped collectively push everyone forward and stay motivated!
Okay Anthony, you asked for it :) I am almost 60, a full time 5th grade teacher and the main things holding me back are, paying for insurance for my family of 5 and the technology learning curve. I have created using Davinci (talk about a learning curve!), but I am weak in the areas of social media in general.
Such a great inspiration ! Appreciate you for making this video. Definitely agree with all that’s been said there. Also amazing to hear not only from you but others in your surroundings
You were one of the first faces I saw on Tik Tok. I learned a lot from you and that made me create my own project on RUclips. It's still at the beginning but I was not made to go back to the office...yet. Hope I will get more time to work on this so I can switch full time to it.
I really appreciate that you're so authentic. You are the only one who catches me with his shorts - even only to see your friendly face. I wish you all the best, for whatever comes! Keep being yourself - that's the best thing you can do. Great video. Thanks for telling your thoughts and fears. I quit 2019. Now I'm doing my own business. Till yet just benefits - although I have less money, but more time for my loved family. That's good for my heart and health...
man. wish i had a safety net saved up for 1/2yrs. trying to get into real estate photography after realizing landscape photography is kinda not gna make $$$ do to prints. I just want to quit my 8-5 job and do i what i love which is photography. :(
you are by a long shot my favourite photography creator and just to remind you of the loyal fanbase you have online, even though compared to youtubers like peter mckinnon you have a small following... you still have people who support you and your creative work. love your shorts about small photography quirks as well, keep up the good work!
This video is so powerful and has so much value! For anyone feeling stuck at there 9-5 and want to go down the path of content creation, this video is perfect!
I started my instagram for photography last September into October and so far im struggling to get followers atm. Trying to get noticed so i could not only provide my services but also learn from other people to become the photographer that i can be. Im not giving up on this journey that im starting out but what advice that you can give for putting yourself out there more? I feel like i need that push or someone to tell me to give some random person that you asked to take their photo your info so if they want they could actually work with u.
Wow i can relate to your story. I also thinking for a few weeks to start youtube channel. Then i upload some videos. My boss has been doing constructively dismissal tactics on me, so i quit. I know what i want to do, to create things. To have people see it (visually) and not just become stuck writing computer programs no one can appreciate. Now in the process of becoming youtuber and oil painter
I'm a mechanical engineer by schooling, but the seed was planted for videography in college when i made a crowdfunding video for one of our engineering teams I was on. Worked an job for 4 months out of school, then got another job and worked it for 2 years, buying my first camera, starting my video career. Now I'm a wedding filmmaker starting to get into the $5k+ market and only going up. I also have a RUclips channel, and its helped me practice storytelling. Making videos is a lit like the enfineering process, except unlike a design engineering job, I can be part of the entire process and have something come to fruition in days rather than years.
For me, it's about kids. I'm almost 29 and I have 3 kids, 6 y.o. oldest so I cannot save enough to be safe. But on the other hand, recently, I really want to brake this chain of "unhappy, but in comfort zone" mind set and show my kids they can live life fully, chasing their dreams. So I'm really close to quit my job :D
Definitely ready to quit - it takes some planning and I feel like there’s no absolutely perfect time but you just gotta take a leap of faith and create your own reality. The community that you surround yourself with also plays a huge impact - this is a big reason I want to quit because I need the creative freedom and ability to travel or explore whatever I want to.
Great video, glad you touched on quitting with some sort of plan or financial savings. As someone who feels like I want to pull the trigger, it's incredibly hard when you have some savings but still look have two little dependants in your day-to-day life. Still, the goal is there to learn and become better at all of this throughout this year but finding time, that support group, and generating side income has been tough. Still, this video was a big help in knowing it can be done. Thanks!
Nice video Anthony, definitely something I’ve been thinking since covid too. As for whats holding me back first things first get my Canadian PR so I have to work at least a year before I can do my own thing. In mean time just have to grind out RUclips and getting clients for weekends. At leas current job can help fund this as it progresses.
You mention the sunken cost fallacy. Ive been a long time chauffeur but one that gets all his work by suncontracting. I found myself in a position that when work doesn't come, Id double down and just spend more time on the road. Being a 24/7/365 business, trying to build my own client list was not something I would entertain. Which is why I would get in my car and just hustle. The pandemic was a big reset. Also, needing a new camera that I could use as a webcam(M50) rekindled my joy of photography. So I got out my 6D and took the M50 along with it and really started learning. Im not doing photography professionally, but I'm trying to hone my skills. I made a vow to never work like I had to the few years leading up to 2020. Videos like this are what inspire others to think for themselves and make the jump. Im about to turn 50. Its not too late...
Another great video man! Ig what's holding me back is that I want to make what I'm making at my 9-5 with my side biz consistently for 6 months. How long were you doing photography and content creation before you quit your day job?
I quit my full time job July 2022 due to an injury and I was so depressed because I was a full time videographer and I was so scared I spent all these years pouring so much blood sweat and tears into a career that I may never be able to do again because of one injury. I was so lost for months but as time went on and I slowly recovered I started picking up myself and my skills. I did think about returning back to the 9-5 world because I was hoping for financial stability but I was willing to sacrifice that for more time to improve my craft. Now I’m a full time freelance videographer earning double what I was earning in my 9-5 job and I’m launching my very own creative agency end of summer. This is something that I had been planning for over 2 years, it still feels like a dream that I’ve come this far. Moral of the story is don’t give up and trust your intuition; just do what makes you happy ❤
I actually miss my 9-5 doing AV conference support. I miss the steady checks. Freelance location sound has been hard. Had to get a lot of equipment. I’m so broke. 😭. Quit my 9-5 in august 21.
I want to be a full time content creator. Work on things that I need to improve on and work on things that are new. I need that freedom to express my creativity through the content. I might not be the best out there today, rather want to be a better Me, tomorrow. But, I'm working in corporate, doing the same thing again and again everyday and getting paid less. Same as your friend, I wanted to save, so that I can sustain without paycheck for a year or so. But, damn the bills. I got serious amounts of bills to pay and hell lot of responsibilities. That's my fear. A month without a paycheck can completely turn my life upside down. I might not be able to create content either. But between these thoughts and hustling for paychecks, I'm trying to put out the little content that I can. I'm trying to balance both my corporate day job as well as creating content hoping that one day I can quit the corporate to make my content creation a full time.
This is a feeling a lot of people get when they don't go to work and just enjoy having time to do the things they like to do. This is how wealthy people live all the time. Great isn't it? Want to sleep in a little bit because you stayed up late having fun? Awesome, love it. Before when I was working I had to get up, go to work, and be tired all day. Now I just sleep in and catch up on my sleep. This is awesome, I should have done this years ago. What was I thinking by going to work everyday and having no time for myself? Ohh, now I remember, I need money to pay my bills and support my family. My kids need things, I need healthcare, I need a car,, and a place for my family to live. yikes. Ahh, it's all coming back now. :). Good luck with your journey my friend, I hope you make it sir, and enjoy the time off while it lasts.
Loved hearing your story! Best of luck! Was wondering how you put this video together. There are so many cuts from your office to the woods to vlog clips but it all flowed together. Did you script/bullet point the video. Asking because I want to get better at Storytelling.
It's sadly simple, the day job pays the bills and a lot more and it would be very hard to give it up financially. With two kids, finding something new that would bring me more joy is very hard.
I quit my job as a journalist and i've been trying to be a content creator. The one thing that's really missing is that network of like-minded folk. Where can I start to find those people, if I don't know anyone already?
100 percent, no one teaches you how to be a content creator, the number of brands out there totally take the piss! Early on, a fairly big brand reached out to me and I have worked for them for a few years and they treat me really well. A lot of other brands just take the piss and it can be hard getting what you need out of it. I love your videos and you just picked up another follower on Instagram. All the best from Ireland
It's always the regular income we get in a job keeping us from quitting. But, I think I don't enough savings to live. So, I have decided to make some good savings and keep improving my photography skills in weekends and then quit the job!
So, what was your overhead when you quit? Do you live at home with your parents ? Or is this your own home with a mortgage and utility bills? Awesome video and I loved that you shared this with us.
Am a physician trying to make videos like yours to teach the medical students but am struggling how to find the right people around me to help me and understand my ideas to create effective content creators. Most of the online freelancers are non professional and looking to do 1-2 projects and move on. They dont into the long term commitment work. Any suggestions?
First full video of yours ive watched and i dont regret it at all. Your skills on youtube are amazing. I do have a question thought, i want to get into videogrpahy but i dont feel like i can start with my current camera and i wouldnt know what to shoot and how to shoot it. do you have any tips?
This looks, all so dreamy and good until the next COVID (LOCKDOWN) or AI impact that would cover most of the job. Luckily wedding photographers won't lose their job. However, Product photographers Portrait photographer Fashion photographer Architectural photographer Might end up losing the job .. and it's really sorry to see them go..
Answer 14:34 - Fear of not having enough savings to sustain myself going full-time creator but I'm planning on quitting the end of this year. so he goes nothing
What's holding you back from making that decision? I'll be filming some follow up videos, so be sure to let me know if there's something you'd like me to know more about! 😊
The pandemic made my work worse. I work at a hospital😢
Ofc money 😂
So happy for you mate. I was studying for my finances degree and i had to serve 6 months in the military (its mandatory here in greece) . Soon i'll go full time photography and videography. Im growing my photography channel in order to have some passive income and maybe grow it later for it to become my main source of income. Its small right now but the community of 3k people i have gathered is something so hearthwarming and makes everything worth it
I'm afraid of being not able to pay my rent.
I'm afraid of standing in front of my camera and no longer being myself... Turning into a censored human being that trying not to confront anyone😅
And now I'm realizing that it feels super difficult to surround myself with other photographers or content creators nearby in Switzerland...
It's just like you said. Unknown paths are uncomfortable. 😂
Uncle Sam and the UCMJ stop me mostly.
Hi Anthony,
Wow, the synchronicity of how the universe works is crazy.
Cheers
Malcolm

Dude I am positive I saw you with your family at Detroit Airport last week Wednesday. Lovely family and appreciate your content.
Such a cool story! It's so inspiring seeing you go through all of that, and to hear your thought process throughout your journey.
Glad to have you a part of it!
You got this! :)
The moment I saw your thumbnail from a notification that said I quit I thought why is this man with quit this content creating but I have watched like 15 seconds and just realised that you are talking about your job not about the content creating, by the way your content is an absolute greatness of things I love you very much Keep going, (im not english)

That's what I have been doing since 2018. Still motivated even just 206 subscribers until now. Keep posting you're my motivation
Thank you so much for this. It came in at the right time. I recently resigned from my 9-5 job on the 28th of July to take on a path of content creating
Literally on the same boat. Now I'm wishing I started a year ago. Kudos to you man! Can't wait to see more!
@@sixohm Absolutely. Hopefully we can reach the summit!
Thank you so much for sharing your story Anthony! I am in a similar boat on pursing to become a full-time creator. Hearing your story really helps out!
I commend you for jumping in leaving not just a job but a career, definitely not easy but it paid off! Congrats Anthony!
Thought provoking in a good way! I have less than 5 years till retirement but would love to leave early! Thx for sharing your story.

Anthony, after watching this video. I really felt connected, everyday i keep thinking about whats the purpose of my 9-5. Got amazing info from this.
Okay Anthony, you asked for it :) I am almost 60, a full time 5th grade teacher and the main things holding me back are, paying for insurance for my family of 5 and the technology learning curve. I have created using Davinci (talk about a learning curve!), but I am weak in the areas of social media in general.
You look good for 60.
Tips… stay slim, fit and eat well. Good luck and remember, seriously 60 is the new 45.
Thanks for sharing! Keep it up
Such a great inspiration ! Appreciate you for making this video. Definitely agree with all that’s been said there. Also amazing to hear not only from you but others in your surroundings
Man, this was amazing storytelling. Super relatable but also insightful. Thanks for sharing your journey and being real.
♥️
Great video, and a great story. I wish you further luck on your journey!
You were one of the first faces I saw on Tik Tok. I learned a lot from you and that made me create my own project on RUclips. It's still at the beginning but I was not made to go back to the office...yet. Hope I will get more time to work on this so I can switch full time to it.
You made something of it. I love this.
Your my inspiration ❤
This video is so good, awesome job on the story telling aspect! Really interesting to hear how your first year went
🙏
I really appreciate that you're so authentic.
You are the only one who catches me with his shorts - even only to see your friendly face.
I wish you all the best, for whatever comes!
Keep being yourself - that's the best thing you can do.
Great video. Thanks for telling your thoughts and fears.
I quit 2019. Now I'm doing my own business. Till yet just benefits - although I have less money, but more time for my loved family.
That's good for my heart and health...
Family and health is so important! It's honestly part of the reason I decided to make this switch now!
Thanks for sharing your inspirational story!
Dude loved this video! So happy for you 👏🏼
Great video. Been full time since 2019 and man was it scary as hell! But ultimately figuring it out still as I go

Good to know more about you, Alex. Really enjoy your content which is inspiring me with
my own journey.
I can see one the best camera centric channels in making, 🔥🔥
Love this for you! This video has inspired me so thank you.
I don’t know but I feel emotional about this. I am an aspiring content creator too! Thanks for this video! 😎😀

Wow, thanks for sharing your story bro. Giving me the needed push….to save up 😂 That “number in my bank account” is crucial.
Soooo happy for you!
Thank you for sharing. Great information

You're putting in the work now, and that's what counts. Can't wait to see where this all brings you!
Now the question is how to find those type of friends, creators, in Portugal, here we lack a lot of that

BROOOOOO that title was so misleading!! But congrats brother much love to you and good luck lets both make it!!
Another great video man! Ig what's holding me back is that I want to make what I'm making at my 9-5 with my side biz consistently for 6 months. How long were you doing photography and content creation before you quit your day job?
You made the right decision
And that is why 387k subs learnt photography
Amazing video bro!! Proud of you. ◡̈
I could never go back to the office, my god after three years…just, no. Community is everything dude. 📸😎
Also love your videos keep doing what you do best

😭. Quit my 9-5 in august 21.
saving the safety net, do do whatever my hearth desires
This is really inspirational.
The biggest hold back for me is retirement and insurance. Those two things are quite expensive
This is Very inspiring !
I’m happy for you. I just hate these clickbait titles all the RUclipsrs do.
It’s only the beginning!!! 👊🏼
With two kids, finding something new that would bring me more joy is very hard.
oh shit just found your channel the same day you uploaded this. lets fucking gooooo
I quit my job as a journalist and i've been trying to be a content creator. The one thing that's really missing is that network of like-minded folk. Where can I start to find those people, if I don't know anyone already?
amazing journey :D
Might need a whole video to explain
@@AnthonyGugliotta here for it
And that’s the story! ❤
Honestly the only thing still holding me back is financially not where I want to be to make the jump

How did you film this? So cool you were able to string together a script while shooting in so many locations (assuming this was all scripted)
Crazy how I’m also on my way to become a certified architect and took up photography as a hobby 😳 scary
good luck!
Respect!
Not much holding me back now that I was let go recently. Now it’s building a safety net..
Just scared and I have too much to learn.
I think a good follow video would be to show people how much you have been able to make from the different income streams.
No guts, No glory. Live with no regrets!
Wow!
elevation hat fire. I got the same one
enjoyed this video
This looks, all so dreamy and good until the next COVID (LOCKDOWN) or AI impact that would cover most of the job.
Luckily wedding photographers won't lose their job.
However,
Product photographers
Portrait photographer
Fashion photographer
Architectural photographer
Might end up losing the job .. and it's really sorry to see them go..
Answer 14:34 - Fear of not having enough savings to sustain myself going full-time creator but I'm planning on quitting the end of this year. so he goes nothing
