This arrangement of Windmill Isle Day was heavily inspired by Hideki Naganuma's style of mixing, specifically his track Boarder 70 from which the main guitar sample was taken. It was also influenced by DJ EAR's own Windmill Isle mix, taking elements of melody and the concept of using Boarder 70's sample in the first place. In contrast to Rooftop Run Classic's slower chiptune-based style, I opted for a fast-paced DnB and breakbeat feel for this blast to the not-so-distant past.
While we're talking Naganuma, you might catch a few Sonic Rush samples sneaking into the arrangement~_^
I've considered doing an extended or revised version of this remix from time to time, always felt it was a bit on the short side. Who knows, maybe it'll happen soon!

For some reason I constantly think of Boarder 70’s phrase, “keep stepping at your own pace,” somewhere in the middle of the song.
I think it could use a bit more bass to make it sound fuller. I like the added violin parts, though.
And I just realized the guitar is from Ollie King. Nice.
I do wish I'd done more with the bass in retrospect, but I think it does its part to fill out the arrangement well enough.

HOW DID I PREDICT THE SONIC RUSH AND ADVENTURE SAMPLES. But in all seriousness this is a wicked sick (sicked?) remix that deserves more views, more likes, and a sicked stage to go with it. Keep up the good work dude/dudette.
It sounds good but I think little things like the sound of waves crashing in the backround or seagull noises would help with the immersion
That's the responsibility of the stage's sound design, not the stage's song. In both Unleashed and Generations, the stages indeed contain ambient sounds.
Putting The sonic rush sound effects in background is really clever!

This is funky as hell! Don't know what made you decide to sample SRA Plant Kingdom but it works brilliantly. Also around 1:10 I hear this sort of electronic buzzing bass line, what is that?
If I recall correctly it's a relatively simple square bass, and it plays through most of the track.

Where did you get the "ride on" sample? I know the song, but isn't it sampled from a jet set radio song or something? Anyway, if you have it, could you possibly send it to me? I'm not sure how cleanly I could rip it from the song... Love this track BTW, it's awesome that you do music and videogame mods and stuff :)

Well, this is really good, though never agreed with SEGA's definition if "Classic Remix" beng equal to electronic style + synths + Dreams Come True Samples
Anyhow this piece is great.
They didn't have a strict definition the way I see it, the styles varied from level to level. For example the Classic Era was basically all modern tune-ups of the old songs, with some news synths and instruments, but overall the same as they always were. You get to Speed Highway and you have your heavy electro, synth-based dance remixes that everyone remembers the most next to City Escape. Of course, tracks like Seaside Hill and Rooftop Run still further experimented with other styles, but you get my point. There's a lot of room for open interpretation.
Some of the remixes were actually pretty close of the original arrangements with some instrument swaps, or at least it did sound to me. there's a few exceptions but, yeah. Also. I did never played the 3DS version so i can't judge the soundtrack for that

The only real issue with this I have with this is that you have the chords wrong.
It's using a different guitar loop from the original, and a remix doesn't have to retain the exact chord structure anyway.

This mix is wonderful! Its relaxing, yet groovy.
If I may ask politely, I was curious if you'd like to take part in a remix album project I am hosting? I'll understand if you decline the invitation, but we on the "Restorations Album Team" would love to have you featured on the album. Even for a track or two.
I'm pretty swamped right now, so I doubt I could contribute any new tracks to whatever album you're making. However, I would consider contributing a few of my existing tracks, depending on how things work out.

As far as time is concerned, the album is set to be released on Sonic's birthday this year. Its a Generations themed album with a list of chosen zones, but it features many original remixes as well-- including mixes of other SEGA franchises. We would like it if you could contribute to at least one remix, but if that's just not possible we will be just as pleased to put an existing track into the albums track list.
If you do reconsider, we would still be happy to have you. Could even preview to you some of the finished mixes we have so far.
