Nice hack with the batteries at 2:25 to find the ground pin. Worth the whole video. See how little current the diodes in the secondary need to conduct. A meter with an input impedance of 10 megohms measuring 10 VDC has only 1 microamp following into it.
Really great video but the only thing that is missing is that you don't need to check for pars of pins, you can have a high resistance between pins that are not close together. You also should isolate the pins with hot glue or oil before using it. Some flybacks are a little different and require connections between some pins. If your flyback is not working, solder a wire to all pins that are not being used, put them close together and watch which ones that arcs. Those that arc should be connected together.
thank you while hard to understand you are very intelligent and so very helpful you get directly to the point and you know what you're talking about so once again thank you
I am so happy to find your channel! I'm at work and only glanced at your other videos and I am totally looking forward to viewing them because I saw some topics that I have an interest in!!. After work of course.👍
Not necessarily in this case because these types of flyback Transformers have diodes between the secondary and the red hv cable and in this case the inductance meter won't work properly
ive got a problem ive found my flyback in a miniture CRT and when i test for the ground pin all of them accept for 3 show 3 volts (using 9 volt battery)
there are flybacks with one or more cables besides the red one, which is the high voltage output; in my case I have a yellow cable next to the red cable. what are these wires usually used for? is it a ground or something?
the transformer i have has a grey wire coming out the bottom near a turnable knob, idk what its for. it has a red wire that looks attached to what i think is a capacitor then a white wire coming out from near one of the knobs(the middle knob) on the flyback.
excuse me sir, i want ask, what the output or the secondary voltage of the flyback transformer? it's a DC or AC voltage. And the voltage selector that using in the multimeter is the AC or DC selector?? thank you very much to the great explanation
You cant rely on this method to work for every flyback out there as most larger ones will not show a secondary winding resistance nor an output voltage from an attached battery. it's best you find a spec sheet and pinout for your desired transformer.
ElfNet Gaming Yes I have seen that some flybacks do not work with this method. But sometimes the flyback has no marks or the datasheet is not available. I will add that to the vid description thanks.
great vid. i would like to know how to bypass the protection circuit against horiz deflection yoke open circuit. in order to drive horizontal yoke with a different signal and wave form.
I have a transformer of 5 pins. I found him in the plasma ball. There are two pins of 8 ohms. which is the primary coil? Does this transformer can be used for the Tesla coil?
Hello, I have the same transformer, can anyone tell me the voltage of the secondary side? Transformer is bsh8-n5 I will be powering a small crt with it and I do not want to destroy it with too high voltage and is there a difference when I use different flyback drivers? Will using different flyback drivers effect the voltage on the seccondary? Thank you :)

I'm confused by measuring resistance on my flyback transformer trying to find the primary coil! From pin 1 to pins 2, 3 and 4 I have the same value of 1,3 ohm! Between 2 and 3, 3 and 4 is 0,4 ohm! Between 5 and 6 is 0,4 ohm! Between 6 and 7 is 0,6 ohm! So where's the primary coil pins???
sir, i have flyback transformer FA122WJ-SA, this FBT has no datasheet when i search on google, and when i try your method, i got 1,7 ohm, 1,1 ohm ( more than one of 1,1 ohm connection) and unlimited resistance pin. how i can find primary and secondary ?
Hi LS, Tried it with no success. I tried AC and DC voltage with negative results. I would like to know what scale you used, AC or DC to measure. Would like to make Jacobs ladder for a science experiment. Thankyou for any help. Take care, C.
I used 24 volt input But I got only 2 volt at the ground pin of Secondary coil. Was my fly back transformer bad in condition? Then, how to check a good condition fly back transformer?
Hi, I appreciate your tutorials, because they are so clear.I am trying to make a Tesla coil, and I need high voltage supply. I have one larger flyback transformer just like you show on the end of your tutorial. This one have 11 pins. Now I have a problem to locate primary of flyback. I measure 0.9 0hms between 7th and 10th pins and 0.8 ohms between 8th and 10th pins. What you suggest now. Thanks.
+Ludic Science Thanks. I try both pairs with two different circuit from cfl lamp, and doesn t work. How can I know does this circuits from CFL lamps are correct. How many volts should be on the output of this CFL circuit. I have one smaller flyback and one of primary pins are clearly visible, can I tray every other pin with it. I already find a ground on both flybacks. I will try option with winding a primary and feedback, and what is better solution in your sight , CFL circuit, or "winding" option. If i try a "winding" option I suppose that can use the transistors which have been in TV with that flyback.Thats D1651 9M1 and 2N 6253 or have to use TIP 35c like you said. By the way I can by TIP 35 without C, but that is expensive to me.I also have Bu 208, S 2530 A (4 A) and 2N 3055. Thanks.
+Milan Brkic CFL circuit should give somo 600 volts. You can add a 10 k resistor to the CFL output and check if there is a voltage. I prefer the winding option, but you can not use the TV transistor. That transistor is designed to work with the internal coils that need 100+ volts. The 2N3055 can work in place of the tip35c (if it is a real one, the 3055 is the most counterfeited electronic component)
+Ludic Science Thanks again.I have two 2N3055 and both are real. Both are produced in my country (in my town exactly, when this was a one happy country) 35 or 40 years ago.And both are still operated.I will be free to ask you again if I stuck somewhere.

First of all, you're likely destroying your flyback by putting such a high voltage into it. Secondly, are you measuring in DC mode? A flyback has an internal rectifier diode that makes it output DC only.
@@DasAntiNaziBroetchen yes in theory.. But i not even think about that.. because my exprnce is more to ac. Sometime we got to do what musnt (in a super-full caution...ofcourse)

Good to know. I had to put 30V DC on mine before I could see something - turned out, I had one that was different than most and PIN2 (or PIN8 depending on how you count) was the ground for the HV side. - it passed through 3 diodes - strange, the diodes need so much voltage to switch on.
