    Nice install! A before and after drive by would have been nice to hear on the next one.

      Good idea! I agree that would have been good to include, next time for sure. Thanks for the input and for watching 👍

    I knew I recognized this car, from Austin Tx. Funny story, the stock style 67’s from this exact car are on my 04 M3. Small world

      Yes, bought it in Austin and drove it home!
      If you know any more about the history of this car, I would love to know about it as it was pretty much bought as-is with limited info.

      @@y2ksierra Not too much unfortunately, was just a marketplace transaction. Cool dude, goes through these cars like tic tacs tho. Has probably had 3-4 after this one. This one seemed well sorted tho from what I saw!

      @@threedirty5455 I hear you, that’s how I bought the car itself. I actually bought it as an engine and drivetrain donor for my 330i but it ended up being a little too nice to use for that so I’m sorting it out and keeping it. Has taken a ton of work but I’m almost there and it drives like brand new now.
      Enjoy the style 67s from it, agree it’s a small world sometimes!

    can you share where you got the IAT relocation kit?

    Great video, I just bought a 2003 SMG vert and would love to do this. Can you share a parts list of what I would need to buy plus what tune I would need? Thanks

    • @y2ksierra
      @y2ksierra  Год назад +1

      Thanks! If you have the mss54HP DME you can use tunes that are floating around if you search for them. If you have a non-hp DME you can either use an alpha n tune or have yours converted to hp spec. As far as parts list, it’s pretty much everything shown at the beginning of the video. You can add the CSL shut off valve and crank case breather, but modifying the stock stuff works fine too. If you go alpha n, then none of the MAP sensor stuff will be needed either. Hope this helps!

    Any plans to relocate the IAT sensor to a cooler location? If you plan to get a custom tune, can you make a video on that as well?

    • @y2ksierra
      @y2ksierra  Год назад

      Yes, it turned out that the dinan intake had a relocated IAT sensor that I didn’t know about. It’s in the intake scoop close to the bumper. I found out about it when doing the wiring at the end of this video. I’m looking at an HTE tune, will make a video if I go that route. Thanks for watching!

    Why does your box say BMW MPower and not Turner Motorsport?

    • @y2ksierra
      @y2ksierra  10 месяцев назад

      I peeled off the Turner logo and added the M Power logo myself.

    That intake must really suck on low end considering you've increased the pipe diameter and slowed the air velocity going into the intake ports at low engine speeds!!! This is not a wise move for daily driving! Maybe if you run the car at 100% wide open throttle but that may still be doubeful unless you have dyno numbers to prove it!!!

    • @y2ksierra
      @y2ksierra  Год назад

      Haven’t noticed any losses down low and the car is perfectly capable of being a daily driver with this setup. This is actually my third E46 with a CSL style box and two others were daily drivers (both Karbonius boxes). I don’t have dyno sheets but if you look at build journal’s site they have some with this box. There are tons of these running around and low end power loss is never a complain that I’ve seen. The only real complaints I’ve seen have been QC or fitment issues.
      Also, these boxes don’t add a ton of power as most utilize stock style trumpets. They do add a ton of sound to the driving experience and that alone makes them worth the cost.

    • @LWRC
      @LWRC Год назад

      @@y2ksierra Yes. The sound certainly is a key element of the driving experience and that's very understandable.
      Regarding the intake air flow velocities - this comes directly from the flow equation from fluid mechanics. It is difficult to violate the laws of fluid mechanics regardless of who builds the contraption. Unless the aftermarket vendor has several hunderd thousand dollars invested in a flow bench to validate their design, all their claims are just speculation. Considering manufacturers like BMW and many other have multi-million dollar R&D budgets, don't you think they would have squeezed out as much HP & TQE as they could from each ounce of gasoline? Granted, OEMs have to deal with corporate fuel MPG, emissions and sound level readings, there may be some gains but it isn't as easy as these aftermarket manufacturers make it appear.

    • @y2ksierra
      @y2ksierra  Год назад

      @@LWRC Yes, all good points. But keep in mind most of these boxes are direct copies of those originally manufactured by BMW for their limited release CSL version of the E46 M3. I have no doubt everything you are mentioning was thoroughly tested by BMW engineers at the time before it was allowed to be a part of their most special E46. I’ve watched numerous reviews of real CSLs and I’ve never heard complaints about the car other than the transmission offered (SMG).
      Appreciate you watching and your input but my real world experience with many miles on these boxes is that they’re awesome in every way other than the costs involved.

    • @LWRC
      @LWRC Год назад

      @@y2ksierra Great. If they're copies of what BMW has already tested, then you're good to go!
