Ive been hunting a Shaw in high D. Ive contacted Shaw but not sure if he is still in production. Any thoughts to how it sounds in comparison to the Clarke?

Honestly, I don't have a great take on the Shaw or Clarke Original. I didn't like the Shaw or Clarke as they came to me, and see them as very similar whistles (too much air upon arrival, need tweaking). It almost seems to me that they are intentionally unfinished, meaning they send them out before being voiced so the user can modify them to their taste. If the user knows what they're doing, they can get a really nice sounding whistle dialed into their tastes.
Unfortunately, I ruined the range on my Clarke on my tweak attempt, but the Shaw high D came out okay, but not so good that I enjoy playing it. It had trouble hitting the top notes before modification, and my tweak didn't help much, but I found the tone in the rest of the range improved, and I got greater air efficiency from it. I also modified an awful Shaw Low F that had Quality Control issues, and it came out much better.
Jerry Freeman used to tweak Shaws, and Clarkes (I think), but I don't think he does anymore. You might see if you could find one of those kicking around.

Lol. There's always one more to buy, isn't there? Maybe one of these days I'll try one, but the whistles based on the Sindt design don't really interest me.

    Nice collection Nathaniel.
I noticed you don't have any Karavaev whisltes. If the sanctions ever end on Russian things you should at least try one or two. They "were" mostly under or around $100 and are based on the Overton design.

Between the Freeman thinner F and wider F how do they compare?

It was nice to see your collection. I didn't know how many I had, I just counted them and there are 20, they are not many but not even few, but compared to the amount you have, it's nothing. What I wanted to say is that despite my limited quantity, when I have to play, I always find myself embarrassed in my choices and I wonder, or rather I ask you, if you also have this problem. However, many times I prefer to play low quality whistles, which is the majority of the ones I have, and then, when I move on to the better ones, I seem to be very good 😂 because I don't have to argue like with those that cost a few pennies, indeed, a few euros.

I sometimes feel bad when I have a great whistle that I hardly ever play. Since I do comparison videos, I end up keeping a lot of great whistles as references. I also feel a bit embarrassed by my playing ability. Great whistles being owned by a mediocre player is kind of sad.

@@NathanielDowell It's not just about the quality of sound but how the instrument feels to play. I've been at the flute for about 10 weeks and my teacher let me have a go on her 5 grand silver flute with B foot... I can't yet hear where the money goes but I can feel it.

Sorry. There is no use (for me) to show how many whistes you have! But what sounds te best! And can you play authentic Irish songs ?
