- Welcome to Laurie’s Little Studio! 😊
Thank you for watching today.
In this video, I am pleating fabric using a Sally Stanley pleater (No affiliation and not sponsored!) that I owned when I had my heirloom sewing shop in Kansas over 20 years ago.
I am using this pleated fabric to make a bonnet (*Turns out that I needed to make two bonnets!) for my sister’s granddaughter’s new baby arriving in June (2023). We know she is having a baby girl so I chose to use the colors I knew the Mom and Dad would like for this, their 2nd baby.
I will show you how I Straighten fabric using the "Pull a thread" method. I will show you how to add/remove needles on the Sally Stanley pleater and the way I pleat fabric. I will discuss needles for smocking and fabric "rescue" if you have a bad encounter with a needle or pin. We look at smocking plates and other patterns. We also attach French lace to fabric using a Bernina foot #5. Yes! The #5 foot! How to work with your floss. What kind of needle?
I am planning to film a “Trunk Show” of some of the baby items my mom and I both made when my girls were newborn - pre-k.
If you are interested in more detailed videos on this topic, please leave a comment below this video. I am setting up a new camera system and hope to figure out a good over-head, well-lit situation soon!
I am using PowerDirector to edit. With my paid subscription I am allowed options such as music and visual elements.
I also use RUclips Studio and have permissions to use certain music.
Happy Day!

This was wonderful! I'm trying to smock for the first time and i'm loving seeing it usedin a baby bonnet. Thankyou for the lovely video 😊
I loved every second of it. Now I want to bring out my pleater and make something.
Great! There are so many ways to use pleated fabrics! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video!
Pink holly bush designs sells Amanda Jane needles which are the only ones I have found that work with the sally Stanley. They come in a 12 pack for between $20 to $30
Hey friends! I've been watching this one post production and boy oh boy. I use Canva for images and elements that I pop into PowerDirector. I can't believe the crazy thing I just saw! If you use Canva for any type of creative purpose, watch out! At around 42:08 I used a text set up as an element. Here is the spelling: "Create *you're* Future". I wish I could remove it but it will serve as a reminder to be more careful in the future! Eeek!
Beautifully done! I recently acquired the same pleater, and she’s been giving me fits 😅 It doesn’t catch the fabric consistently, and skips often. I’ve cleaned it thoroughly, and checked all my needles. Suggestions?
I'm so glad you have a pleater! I think about the fabric I'm using, the thread, and of course, the needles. In my case, it has always been the needles. I do run wax paper through my pleater often. I can recommend a good video by Children's Corner on their Amanda Jane (It is very similar) that may help. It can be found here: ruclips.net/video/7mR_mUUnHnc/видео.html
I hope so much that it helps!
@@LaurieEggleston37It was indeed the needles! I had some that were slightly larger gauge that was throwing it off. Thanks for the tips!
Why didn’t you put your lace on before you pleated? Sew Beautiful, Martha Pullen Hardcover Books, Creative Needle all teach this method. Also, No need to gather the lace, pleating does it for you.
