Lived there in Greenbourne Children's home in the 60's for a few years. Loved it !! think of the Chegwin's and staff often .
A wonder there have been no haunting about it .

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I lived there for the first 13/14 years of my life so I always consider myself a Writtle lad wherever else I live. I think there are a lot more haunted places there, especially around the green area. I also found out after I made this video, so didn't include it, that the Christian Centre is also apparently haunted. I still need to do a video about Hylands Park and the haunted house I grew up in, on Rectory Road.

Thanks, Writtle is a nice village, but I grew up there so I'm slightly biased. Hylands Park is definately worth a visit also, lots of history, and nice formal gardens, nice for a walk. I have a video planned regarding the hauntings and a little of the history. I just watched some of your videos and as a sufferer of anxiety myself, I thoroughly approve and have subbed btw. I would suggest a place I think you will like, I have also done a video there but at night you can't see that much. St Peter's Chapel, at Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex. It is a bit of a walk from the car park, maybe half a mile to a mile up a farmers track, but at the end is one of the most amazing little buildings in Essex, and from where Christianity was spread to the East Saxons in the 7th century. It is still used for services I believe and as part of the Othona Community (a nearby religious community and retreat). But it was always left open day and night, although I'm not sure if that is still the case, things may be different during corona. But it's one of my favourite places in Essex.

Bless brother hope you are surviving this madness OK. Thought I would use some old footage just to get a video done so it's not the best footage, was never intended to be used, but circumstances thought well it's better than no video at all. Writtle always has a place in my heart, a good place to grow up, and I think we all turned out pretty good human beings.
Okay I admit I'm 10 and in year 6 in Writtle junior school and it's not just the toilets it's the year 4 cubard in CR and it opens by itself and I lost my coat in there so me and my parents looked for it and found it in the cubard
I always thought it was possibly a rumour that teachers made up to make us not hang about in the toilets, but it was certainly a well known rumour when I was at school there. Apart from that I have good memories of the school.
Greet video. As a kid I used to live in Hunts Drive and there was something odd about the house we lived in; vividly remember the (as mentioned) Hunts Drive murders. I think he drowned ( in the reservoir) their family dog too. We eventually moved to Oxney Green.
Hey Sean welcome to the channel. What part of Hunts Drive were you at, the end near the murders or the top end nearer the school? I never knew about the dog that is something to add to the story thanks. I lived in Rectory Road from birth-1973, to when we moved to Melbourne in 1988-ish. My family have had a connection with Writtle though going back certainly a few centuries but I would say much longer. There is a good chance that you know of them, I'm an O'Sullivan but the Writtle side of my family are the Wards, I think there are probably still several in Writtle to this day. My great great great grandad was one of the Writtle Blacksmiths way back, or so the family story goes, one day I will research it. Blessings.
In Hunts Drive we used to live near Hunts Close. The house we lived in was always cold, damp and had unexplained banging/noises/smells at times. There was allegedly a child die traumatically in the house before we moved in.
The Hunts Drive murderer incidently shared the same surname as someone who my parents were friends with. He also lived in Hunts Drive which caused concern and confusion at the time, hence why I vividly remember the murders. We knew it wasn't the family friend as the murderer was found with his dog (which our friend never owned).
The Vic and Chequers pubs were/are reputedly to be haunted. If I remember correctly think the saloon bar in the Vic was haunted ?? something to do with a horse-drawn coach. ?? the Vic used to be called the Kicky Dick
I remember the Wards; lived up the road from us and used to have a big driveway gate. My family members who still live in Hunts Drive are the Gents. Did you move to Melbourne, north west Chelmsford? Was the Writtle blacksmiths where Rumsys or the Witchcraft shop are/were? Funny talking about the old family and Writtle streets all these years later
